I don't know about you all but I would love to see something different and dramatic leading up to Pia's entry into an MA and Bani discovering the truth about Jai. Listening at doors and a straight confession just does not appeal anymore so here's my more dramatic (I hope!) version 😉
There are little details I would like to expand on but alas, time does not permit it so please use your imagination 😃
Jai looked at his wife playing with the kids but as soon as she became aware of him, her face changed to give him the usual 'Durga' stare. He stared back and his face relaxed into a hidden smile as he thought he could still see his Bani there, hidden away but still there.
Jai (thinks): I wanted to give you the world, Bani but now I just want to see you happy so if giving you the kids is all I have to give you then so be it. But how to remove Pia's contract? Think Jai, think...
Goes from there and is later shown having a silent discussion with some people in an office.
Next day Pia receives court summons contesting her state as Krishna and Atharva's legal mother. Eyes wide open she rushes to see Jigs.
Pia: Jigs aunty, Jigs aunty, Look at this ... How dare he do this ... I will hide the kids where they will never be found (is speechless and angrily strides around the room)
Jigs(annoyed look on face): Now what happened Pia ... stop bouncing around like a baboon and give me the papers...
Jigs reads the papers and smirks at Pia
Jigs: So my brother has finally decided to stop acting like a simpering fool ... and it clearly states here that '..if kids are taken from Walia mansion for ANY reason, no matter for how short a time, Pia Dixit will be deemed guilty in connection with their disapperance and will be arrested ...'. Ahhh, poor you! So what do you expect me to do?
Pia stares at Jigs speechlessly and goes out to confront Jai who looks at her without any expression on his face.
Pia (throws papers at him): WHAT is THIS ? You think I will let you ruin my life plans by taking your kids away from me... you have forgotten the CD I hold of Sahil ... If you go through with this then I'll make sure everyone knows that Durga is Bani and your dear Bani ends up in jail ...
Jai's expression changes as Pia is shouting at him and he looks at her like she is a bug who crawled out from under a slimy stone and without saying a word walks away.
Pia (fuming, shouts at him): I'll show you ...
In court (I'm going to redeem the Indian justice system here :))
The details of the case are read out
Court clerk: This is a case of Mr&Mrs Walia against Pia Dixit contesting the custody of K & A Walia. Since their marriage the Walia's consider the childrens best interests lie with the Walia's and they should be given sole custody, Mr Walia being their biological father.
The Walia lawyers argue that Mr Walia is the natural father and has been supporting them and Pia Dixit. Now that he has married his wife Durga, will provide all the maternal care and stability the children need. The contract Pia has was signed when his previous wife Bani, was not in a stable condition mentally and should be nullified. Pia has also not had any means of providing support to the children and is single.
Pia's lawyers argue that Bani trusted Pia more than Jai and that is why she was given custody.
Various people testify for the Walia's and confirm Bani's state of mind at the time Pia's contract was signed. The judge is left to delibrate and is ready to give his decision. Pia can see from the judges face that his decision was against her.
Pia: Judge Saab, before you pass judgement I would like to bring to your attention this CD. I did not want to before because it affected my sister Bani. I loved her a lot and did not want the family izzat to be dragged through the mud but I think the kids staying with me is far more important that any izzat.
The CD is viewed and there is a hush over the courtroom before the media section reacts. Pia smiles in triumph at Jai.
Jai: Judge Saab, I don't know why Pia thinks this is important as we all know that Bani died 5 years ago and this really does not concern the case.
Pia (jumps up from her seat): No, No... Bani did not die but is in fact your wife Durga. She has already confessed as such to all at Walia house. It shows how unstable her mind is that she has reappeared after 5 years as Durga.
Jai: I don't recall Durga ever confessing to being Bani and I'm sure everyone in Walia mansion will agree with me.
Judge: Miss Dixit, do you have any proof that Durga Walia and Bani Walia are the same?
Pia: Yes, my heart says so...
Judge: That is all very well but it is no solid proof and unless you can provide some ...
Pia: I call on Mr Deb to testify. He was the person who rescued Bani.
Jai gets tense at the mention of AD. He was counting on the fact that AD would not want Bani behind bars for Sahil's murder.
AD testifies that Durga and Bani are not the same person. He has all Durga's papers and proves he was in the USA when Bani was killed.
Jigs sitting next to Jai whispers: Well, I'll see about that ....
Jai: If you utter one word, I promise you that you will no longer have a roof over your head and the limitless allowance you think is your birthright will also stop!
Jigs subsides besides him.
Judge gives all rights for the children to Mr & Mrs Walia and nullifies any documents that Bani had signed before her death.
Outside Jai and AD have a staring moment - united in saving the woman they both loved. Jai inclines his head at AD showing his gratitude.
Pia (thinks): Bani, I will not leave you alive to enjoy this triumph over me. You just wait...
A week later Pia tries her previous strategy to make Bani jealous by pretending to talk to Jai on the phone. This had worked so well last time.
Pia (all lovey dovey): Yes, Mr Walia.....oh my god you are making me blush...naughty Mr Walia....
In the distance, behind Pia's back Bani sees Jai talking with Aditya and he definately does not have a mobile in his hand. A smile spreads on Bani's face and she takes Pia by the arm and turns her around to face Jai.
Pia (splutters): ......errrmmmmmm.....
Bani: Wah Pia, this is such a miracle. Mr Walia can talk to you without a phone!
Meanwhile AD has been pressurising Bani to leave Jai and eventually Bani throws a party at WM and announces her departure
Bani (stands next to AD): Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for coming to my party. It is to celebrate my break with the past (looks at JW) and to welcome my future (slips her arm into AD's).
Jai looks shocked. Pia and Jigs look happy. Jigs thinks she should be back to her original position in WM soon.
Jai (thinks): I knew this was coming but so soon. How am I going to go on? Last time there were the babies but this time ...
Jai leaves and makes a call to his lawyers transfering everything he has to Bani to be held in trust for the children. He knew Bani would never take anything for herself but she would protect the children's heritage.
Pia hears him.
Pia: Mr Walia, what are you doing? Think of your other child Veer. After the divorce we can get married and live in another house more lavish then this. We will be so happy, the perfect family.
Jai(angry): Don't use Veer to get what you have always wanted. You are in this house only because of him and Rano is more of a mother to Veer then you will ever be. I have never met a more shameless and ugly person than you! Oh yes, you have external beauty but inside you are totally ugly and I would rather jump in a pit full of vipers than marry you. I am and will ever be Bani's!
Jai walks away and Pia shouts after him
Pia: Don't you walk away from me...Bani, Bani, Bani...we'll see about Bani....
In the following days Jai spends more and more time with his children and thus Bani. Storing up memories so he keeps telling himself because that is all that will be left for me.
Bani comes to see him soon afterwards and smirks thinking of her plan to keep Jai and Pia apart even after she was gone
Bani: So Mr Walia, I have decided to leave tomorrow for ADs house and you and Pia can get together. I have so many preparations to make for the divorce and my marriage to AD. After all, the sooner the children start thinking of AD as their father the better.
Bani:Yes, it is a good time for us to leave .... Arrah Mr Walia, you must be esctatic hearing this... But before the divorce, you need to sign this little paper ...
Jai took the paper and read it. Incredelously it said that he could only see the children if Pia was not attached to him in anyway as Bani considered her a bad influence on her children!
Jai: Bani, I...Pia...(speechless)
Quickly signs the papers.
Next day, Bani goes to Pia
Bani: Pia you must be happy seeing me leave but before I go I have a little present for you...
Pia's face lights up
Bani (gives Pia papars): Enjoy.....my dear little sister...
Pia is enraged and goes to a cupboard and takes out a gun.
Bani and the children are downstairs making their way to the door and Jai is standing to one side watching them helplessly. He hears a noise upstairs and can see Pia aiming the gun at Bani.
Jai(thinks): NOOOOO.....
Moves quickly and stands between Pia and Bani just as there is a sudden loud bang.
Bani's heart gives a jolt and she looks around but can't see anything or anyone as Jai staggers out of her view. Atharva spots him
Atharva(happy): Look Krishna, it's papa....
Both kids pull away from Bani's hands and run over to Jai. Jai meanwhile has dropped to his knees, beads of sweat form on his forehead and he can feel his strength ebbing
Jai (smiles and opens his arms as the kids come to him): You will behave for mama... won't you? ... no pretending you have stomach ache in the mornings ... no (pauses) playing up at sleep time ...
Krishna spots a tiny trickle of blood at the corner of his mouth and touches it
Krishna: Papa look, is your mouth hurting ??
Jai looks at the blood on Krishna's fingers and quickly wipes his mouth
Jai: It's nothing baby... Go ...Go now both of you, go to mama...
Gently gives them a push in Bani's direction. Bani is still standing by the door and stares at Jai before turning to leave with the kids. Door closes after her and Jai gives up and collapses fully on the floor.
Ranveer and Aditya come home and see Jai and rush him to the hospital. On the way, Jai comes around for just long enough to murmmer '...no media..'.
Both returned late at night to discover Pia blubbering away in her room dressed in red and keeps on showing them her hands
Pia(clearly gone mad): Look ..look .. how red my mehndi is (there is no color on her hands). You know I am getting married but that Bani ... (waves the gun) ... no problem, I have taken care of everything ...(laughs madly)
Police are called and she is charged with attempted murder and sent off to the mental asylum for a permanent stay (no redemption for Pia in my story)
Back at Bhoot mansion, Bani sees blood on Krishna's dress and fretfully examines her
Bani: Krishna, where are you hurt? Tell me...
Krishna(doing a twirl): Mama, I'm fine ...see...Papa's mouth hurt...
Bani breathed a sigh of relief and ignored the reference to Jai.
A week later, Bani reluctantly signs the divorce papers and gives them to AD to be passed to Jai's lawyers. Later lying in bed -
Bani (thinks): why do I feel so restless, as if a part of me is not here... even this house feels like it is closing in on me. I have got what wanted, Mr Walia's destruction and my children, but still I don't feel satisfied... go to sleep Bani, your engagement to AD is next month so think of all the happiness coming your way, at least he will not betray you...
Finally falls asleep and dreams of -
White flimsy curtains blowing, a whisper calling 'Baniiii..' softly. Suddenly sees a smiling Jai holding out a hand to her to dance. The Bani in the dream smiles back and takes the hand and they dance closely. Jai whispers something in her ear and they both laugh as she punches him lightly on his chest. Suddenly Jai, twirls her away from him and releases her extended hand. His face goes from laughing to sadness
Jai (sadly): Bani, won't you please forgive a departing person....please....
Bani tries to touch him but Jai vanishes back within the curtains which turn red, there is an echo of 'please forgive me....'
Bani wakes up gasping and finds it difficult to go back to sleep so tosses and turns and thinks 'why did you do this to me..' (3 flashbacks - First, when Bani is drying her hair and water drops fall on Jai and he tells her I can't imagine life without. Next, the last time they get married and he says I love you. Last, him saying Bani is mad in court.)
Next day the kids play up, constantly asking about their papa until Bani is relieved to see them to school. To annoy Bani even further, Jai's lawyers give her the papers transferring everything of Jai's to the children and Bani.
Bani (fumes): who does he think he is ... I can look after my own kids and don't need his charity...
Rings up Walia mansion and Tony butler answers
Bani: Where is Mr Walia?
Tony: I'm sorry Madam. Mr Walia is at City hospital...
Bani: You can tell Mr Walia that his little trick won't work this time and I will not be fooled into rushing to the hospital... Forget it! I'll tell him myself...
Slams phone and makes her way to City hospital
Looking for the room, she spots Rano standing outside a door tears running down her face (Rano has been working at the hospital as an administrator since she left WM)
She spots Bani and stiffens
Rano: Why have you come now Durgaji? Perhaps you remembered some other thing you want to take revenge for? Well, let me tell you that Mr Walia has nothing else left to give you ...
Bani: Mr Walia is not going to fool me this time into thinking that he is dying... I'm just here to tell him my children and I can do without his charity and AD will give us all that Mr Walia couldn't!
Rano catches Bani by her arm and drags her to the door window.
Rano: Look... Look... does that look like someone who is playing little games with you? You will be pleased to hear that he IS dying....and there is nothing the doctors can do... do you know why? he has lost the will to live.
Bani looks and her breath catches. Jai is lying there, still, pale...
Bani reels back and clutches a chair before sitting as her legs gave way.
Bani: How? ... Who?....
Rano: It happened on the day you left and was done by our darling sister Pia...the one who you found so easy to forgive and believe in no matter what she did ... I suppose you will also be forgiving her this, after all she helped you get what you wanted...Jai Walia destroyed. I wish I could rub out relationships as easily as the two of you! ...(pauses)... And you know what was the worst thing? You never once asked Mr Walia about why he did what he did. Not even once....the great and good Bani always fair to everyone...but in truth not everyone but only Pia!
Bani cringes. It was true, she had never once asked Mr Walia about what happened. AD had so filled her with his hate that she had lost her ability to not judge people until she had at least heard their side.
She had never even questioned why he had never uttered a word but had silently accepted all she had metted out to him. Yet she knew he could have counteracted against her attacks if he wanted to. But in all her talk and actions against Jai she had never imagined that he would die. Never, she had never wanted that for him.
Bani (cries): Rano please....I never wanted this for him. please believe me ...tell me what happened all those years back... please...
Rano: Perhaps, you should go ask Pia...after all why would you believe me? I was also one of the people you think betrayed you...(pauses)... Mr Walia took a promise from us we would never tell but it doesn't matter anymore. I owe all I have to Mr Walia and it is time to clear him off all the wrongs he is supposed to have done.
Listen....(must have flashbacks -
Pia blackmailing Jai with the CD so he appears in front of Bani in burkha,
Jai begging Pia on his knees to get Bani released from MA,
Jai running madly looking for Bani when he is told she is dead and Massi brings babies to stop him jumping into flames,
Jai performing his own last rites,
Stopping his marriage to Pia by calling the womens rights society,
Pia blackmailing him with the children,
AD blackmailing him with the threat to reveal that Durga is Bani,
Jai coming between Pia and Bani when Pia shoots
)
Rano (angry): You can wipe those artifical tears now. You finally managed to get what you wanted ... the total destruction of Mr Jai Walia ... Hope it makes you feel great, destroying a person whose only crime was that he loved you beyond anything and wanted to always protect and see you happy...
Bani has tears running down her cheeks and is stiff with shock. Suddenly gets up and heads towards the door
Doctor: Madam, you can't come in here ....
Rano: Let her come ... currently she could be the best medicine for Mr Walia.
Bani ignores the doctor and heads straight to Jai. Sits in a chair besides his bed and with a shaking hand touches his face. It is cold and clammy, glides her hand over his eyes willing them to open. The eyes that had tried to tell her everything and which she had ignored remained shut. His breathing was shallow and it looked at one point that he had stopped breathing. Bani's hand continues it's journey down his face and finally comes to rest over his heart, the slow beats reassuring her.
Lays down her head next to his and whispers
Bani: You cannot leave me like this...please come back to us...if not for me than come back for the children...please please...come back...why didn't you ever tell me.....how could I have ever believed you would do anything to harm me ...
No response from Jai
Bani: I know you can hear me...(threatens him)...if you don't come back I'll...I'll...I'll start crying and really marry AD!
Rano looks on and leaves returning after a considerable time
Rano: You have to go home now, you cannot sit here...
Bani: Yes, I can
Rano: No, think of your children. They are due home from school now and you cannot leave them alone. I work here so I will let you know of any change...
Bani leaves reluctantly, picks the children and goes to Bhoot house.
She now wants to leave here and go back to WM where she could feel close to her husband once more. Opens her cupboards and starts to take the clothes out but then suddenly thinks 'Bani, you cannot leave. AD will do anything to keep his Durga with him and you cannot take the chance he will harm Jai whilst he cannot defend himself. Once he has recovered then we can face AD together'
AD knocks and enters: my..my..Durga, such a mess. I hope you are taking those clothes out so we can replace them with your trousseau??
Bani: No, I was just deciding what I could give for auction at that charity party coming up...
Next day, drops children to school and hurries to the hospital. Checking on Jai first and reassuring herself, she goes looking for Rano and finds her in an office not far from Jai's room.
Bani: Rano, can I please talk to you? I know I never gave you a chance but I hope you will.
Rano looks at her passively
Rano: I don't think there is anything for us to really talk about anymore
Bani: Please Rano...
Rano: You have no idea what it felt for me. I tried to tell the truth in court but you saw how the lawyer twisted everything and when you came back you never remembered that. Later when Jigs aunty was trying to snatch Varun from me, even then you didn't come help me knowing what I would be feeling on losing Varun. Only papa (Aditya) and Mr Walia stood by me.
Bani: Rano, please forgive me. All I can say in my defence is that I allowed someone else's opinions colour all I did and thought. I lost myself somewhere along the way....
Rano: It will be hard for me ...
Bani: I will be happy with the fact that you are at least going to try. I cannot hope for more but I hope you do in time.
Goes back and sits with Jai. The hours drag on and still she holds his hand and wills him to open his eyes. Suddenly, shuts her eyes and starts crying with his hand against her cheek
Bani: How can you worry me like this...
Suddenly hears a whisper
Jai: Don't cry....
Looks up and sees Jai staring at her
Jai: I hate it when you cry... (his eyes close again)
Bani's joy knows no bounds and she rushes out to find the doctor.
Dr: It is Ok, Mrs Walia. Mr Walia is now in a natural deep sleep. He should be well within no time now!
And so begins Jai's recuperation 😳
I would have liked to put in parallel stories - of what happened to Rano, Ranveer turning bad (against his mother mostly), Jigs being thrown out by JW and being deserted by her ever faithful ex Aditya.
And for the future -
Jai & Bani fight together against AD. Meanwhile they can have secret moments together with and without the children. 😳 Even the MIL will side with them once she starts remembering that AD was resposible for her daughter's death due to his obsessive behaviour so we should have no more of 'poor Jeet' from her.
Sahil would turn up still live as this is the only way Bani can become Bani once more from Durga and remove any threat from AD. Rano can also discover she is well over Sahil and would rather be with Ranveer inspite of his nastiness.
The DNA report resurfaces and Pushkar comes to reclaim Veer.
I would definately scrap those irritating 3 sisters, eeny, meeny, whatever - we could have an episode or two getting rid of them!
