| All work, no masti on Gandhi My father sets In order to extract top notch performances from his cast, Feroz Abbas Khan - the director of Gandhi My Father - urged his actors to stay rooted to their character even while they weren't filming. The film deals with the volatile relationship Mahatma Gandhi shared with his son Haridas. As the film is based on a very sensitive subject, the actors were pretty serious while on the sets. Shefali Shah, who plays Kasturba Gandhi, said, "We used to maintain proper discipline, no masti on the sets. There were no pranks; we were really very serious about this film." "We have rehearsed and discussed every scene in the film. We've even spoken about the sort of clothing that would be apt for each scene," added Shefali, who will soon be seen in The Last Lear alongside Preity Zinta and Amitabh Bachchan. "A lot of research has gone into the film," revealed debutante director Feroze Abbas Khan. "We've referred to Haridas Gandhi's biography, which happens to be written by his grand daughter Neelam, we also paid attention to The Last Jewel of Gandhi authored by Milli Pollock, who was a close associate of the Mahatma. For the character of Kasturba Gandhi we used Arun Gandhi's Kasturba." Speaking about her character (Kasturba), Shefali said, "The character is older than I am but I was very happy to play the role. Ba was the most challenging role of my career. She is a mother caught up in a family conflict and someone who is forced to take sides on a few occasions. Mothers often find themselves in such situations. All mothers will be able to recognize the strength needed to get through such troubled times." Gandhi My Father faced a serious threat for legal action by filmmaker Joy Augustine, who claimed he had the rights on the subject and only had to complete his script. Feroz Khan and Anil Kapoor are ready with their film but there is surely no Gandhigiri happening in this film. The film, shot in South Africa and several cities in India, is scheduled for release on August 3. |
