The chief architect of our life are us. Everyday we start with some raw materials. How we've utilised those raw materials in the past can be judged from the structure we've built till now (present) and how we utilise that base structure and the raw materials at present will determine our future growth.

This is what in Hinduism is called Karma.
Whatever we are experiencing now is the result of something that has occurred in the past and what we are doing now will cause something to happen in the future. If we are happy now it is because we have done something good in the past and if we want to be happy and have a good life in the future we should do good things right now.
