KOMAL NAHTA - Bollywood ETC

Fox Star Studios' Bang Bang! (UA) is an action-packed love story. Rajveer Nanda (Hrithik Roshan) steals the Kohinoor diamond from London and returns to India. He makes it amply known to underworld don Omar Zafar (Danny Denzongpa), through his (Zafar's) men, that he has the expensive Kohinoor diamond, the intention being to meet Omar Zafar. Although Rajveer pretends that he wants to sell the diamond, he doesn't actually sell it, making Omar Zafar's men follow him for it. Hot on Rajveer's trail are Omar Zafar's men on the one hand and the police on the other.

In trying to meet Omar Zafar, Rajveer has to escape, both, the police and Zafar's men while securing the Kohinoor diamond. Quite early on, he meets Harleen Sahni (Katrina Kaif) in a chance encounter. Harleen, who works as a receptionist in a bank, is on a blind date and mistakes Rajveer for her date. The two hit it off well and start enjoying each other's company. Harleen, of course, can't fathom why so many people are after Rajveer and why he keeps gunning down people. Anyway, she learns part of Rajveer's reality even as their romance blossoms.

And then, Rajveer gets a chance to meet Omar Zafar. What happens thereafter? Why was it so necessary for Rajveer to meet Omar Zafar? Is there some back story? If so, what is it? What is the whole truth about Rajveer? Is he a thief or a noble soul? Does Rajveer and Harleen's love culminate in marriage?

The film is an official remake of the Hollywood film, Knight And Day. The screenplay for the adapted story is written by Sujoy Ghosh and Suresh Nair. At the outset, it must be said that the story and screenplay offer hardly anything by way of novelty. But frankly, the other things that the film offers are so, repeat, so overpowering that the audience doesn't even think about the lack of novelty in the subject. Among these other things' are the presentation, the action and stunts and the dances but more about them later. The screenplay is very fast-paced and keeps the audience engrossed and involved throughout. Yes, the more discerning viewer may question how Rajveer can do just about anything and that too, so easily, but the masses will not even get time to think on those lines. And when the reality of Rajveer is revealed in the end, the questions do get answered to a large extent.

The romance between Rajveer and Harleen is very cute and heartwarming. Actually, the actors playing these two characters are so good-looking that half the job is done with the casting itself - the audience roots for the two, right from the word go'. There are a number of light moments in the first half and they are truly enjoyable. Action takes over in the post-interval portion and that will more than satisfy the masses. Emotions, of course, could have been far more pronounced. Abbas Tyrewala's dialogues are very nice.

Hrithik Roshan looks like a Greek God. He has taken off his shirt in a number of scenes and his bare torso is to die for. He acts wonderfully, dances excellently and is unbelievably agile in the action sequences. It wouldn't be wrong to say that he has surpassed himself in the two song-dances. Katrina Kaif looks very pretty and also delivers an excellent performance. Her sense of timing in comic scenes is lovely. Danny Denzongpa stands out in a role which isn't too lengthy. Pavan Raj Malhotra is very effective in the role of the secret service agent. Javed Jaffery makes his presence felt in a brief role, in a special appearance. Jimmy Shergill has his moments, also in a brief role, in a special appearance. Kanwaljit Singh, Deepti Naval, Vikram Gokhale and Ankur Vikal provide adequate support in guest appearances. Kamlesh Gill is cute as Harleen's grandmother. Partha Akerkar (as Robert) and Pradeep Kabra (as Big Man) are effective. Pratik Dixit shines in the role of Karan. Others lend the desired support.

Siddharth Anand's narrative style caters to all classes of audience. His direction is very good and he has succeeded in keeping the viewers involved, right from the start till the end. He doesn't let the audience's thoughts wander anywhere. Vishal-Shekhar's music is already hit. Tu meri' and the Bang Bang' song are very fast-paced numbers. Meherbaan' has lilt and melody. Lyrics, by Vishal Dadlani, Anvita Dutt and Kumaar, are perfectly in synch with the film's mood. Choreography of the Tu meri' and Bang Bang' songs (both by Bosco-Caesar) is truly mesmerising. Special mention must be made of Hrithik Roshan's outstanding dance movements in both these songs. Ahmed Khan's choreography in the Meherbaan' song is eye-filling. Salim-Sulaiman's background music is wonderful. Sunil Patel's cinematography, with additional cinematography by Vikas Sivaraman and Benjamin Jasper, is extraordinary. The film looks like a Hollywood film, thanks to the camerawork, canvas and action/stunts. The foreign locations are heavenly. Parvez Shaikh's action and stunts (with action consultant Andrew Armstrong) takes one's breath away. Action of this kind has not been seen on the Hindi screen. The water action sequence is out of this world. The chase sequences are just too lovely. Dipankar Dasgupta's production designing is veritably superb. Editing, by Akiv Ali, is sharp.

On the whole, Bang Bang! is a super-hit because it offers entertainment galore and has something for everyone. It will break a lot of box-office records and could end up joining the Rs. 200-crore club

Bang Bang movie review: Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif's chemistry makes this action flick worth watching!

Bang Bang movie review: Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif's chemistry makes this action flick worth watching!

Well, we're in the popcorn movie' season and Bang Bangaspires to do no more than fit that bill. In it we have Hrithik playing the role of an action movie hero, and as a sidekick we're given Katrina

The Siddharth Anand directorial, which is the official remake of Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz starrer Knight And Day has hit the screens today (October 2), but does it really deserve your presence in the theatre? We tell you...

What's it about?

Hrithik Roshan plays Rajveer Nanda, a charming man, but we don't really know if he's a good guy, a bad guy, or a good guy posing as a bad guy. Anyway, he lives on an edge and messes with the baddies. All this to safeguard a Kohinoor. Then he meets Harleen Sahni (Katrina Kaif), an innocent bank receptionist, who is charmed by his good looks and his style of dealing with the hazardous situations. However, the more she meets him, the more she gets into the entire chaos, which Rajveer takes along with him. However, she is unaware about the causes of such mayhem. Is Rajveer trustworthy or is he just using Harleen for his own purpose? We ain't gonna tell you that. Watch it to know it!

What's hot:

Siddharth Anand may not have proved his prowess as a director, but he will surely be remembered for his latest offering. What you will really love about Bang Bang are those high-octane car chases, open shoot-outs, and other breathtaking stunts. Especially the F1 car sequences on the roads of Abu Dhabhi will surely drive you crazy and give you goosebumps. Though the first half was pretty boring, but the second half will keep you glued to your seats. The Krrish 3 actor pulls off every action sequence brilliantly. Also his gentle and sometimes rib-tickling attitude towards Katrina is amazing. Katrina as an innocent and troubled lady is great. The chemistry between Hrithik and Katrina is something to watch out for. We think, the duo should do more movies together. Danny Denzongpa as a bad man is frightful. Jaaved Jaffrey too is impressive. Pawan Malhotra as a government agent is good once again. Music by Vishal Shekhar is already topping the charts.

What's not:

Despite all those amazing action sequences, Bang Bang occasionally suffers due to poor screenplay. There are quite a few scenes in the movie where logic is dumped into dustbin just like in Knight And Day. The story writer trio of Sujoy Ghosh, Suresh Nair and Abbas Tyrewala should have learnt from the mistakes that the writers of Knight And Day made. But unfortunately, they didn't. Lastly, the breathtaking locations namely Shimla, Manali, Abu Dhabi and Prague and others change like a slide show and we are left wondering how did that happen!

What to do:

Despite all the blemishes, Bang Bang is certainly worth a watch. Hrithik and Katrina will keep you entertained throughout.

Story: After 150 years, an Indian robs the Kohinoor diamond. And thus begins the cat-and-mouse game as the international mob and the Indian Secret Service (ISS) officials hunt him down.

Review: Siddharth Anand's Bang Bang makes more noise and little sense. This desi adaptation of the 2010 Tom Cruise-Cameron Diaz action thriller, Knight And Day, has charm in abundance, primarily because of its effervescent lead pair -- Rajveer/Jai ( Hrithik Roshan) and Harleen (Katrina Kaif). But it lacks coherence. Disbelief is writ large on the face, right at the start.Picture this - India's most wanted, Omar Zafar (Danny Denzongpa), who is to be extradited to India, escapes from a maximum-security prison in Britain because his aide Hamid Gul (Jaaved Jafferi) blows up the place like it is a cardboard edifice. They also kill the honest ISS agent, Viren Nanda (Jimmy Sheirgill) in the process. Next, Zafar suggests that he can actually hold up the UK-India extradition treaty by getting an Indian to rob the Kohinoor. Really?

Aimed at providing more style than substance, the film makes you comfortably numb in the first 20 minutes itself. So you may perhaps just raise an eyebrow as you watch Katrina, a bank receptionist from Shimla (with a liberal grandmother who tells her to go chase love), on a global escapade -- London, Prague, Greece... in the company of a "psychopathic schizophrenic" jewel thief, Hrithik, after meeting him on one blind date.

If you're still looking to make sense, Hrithik has a back-story on why he attempted to steal the Kohinoor. Or why he chose guns over roses. Kaif, convinced of his good intentions, is happy to cling to him with gay abandon.

Anand's film has no grammar. But it compensates with breathtaking locales and stylishly choreographed stunts. It also works as a show reel for the bronzed Roshan with his six-pack abs and the enviable midriff of Kaif wearing a red polka-dotted bikini top. Their horseplay caters to an audience that is low on IQ and high on adrenalin!

Full marks to the lead pair for not being overwhelmed by the commotion around them. Especially Hrithik, who knows the job at hand

_____________________________________________________________________

A still from Bang Bang!, releasing in theatres on Thursday. Old tales of revenge, love and family bonding get a pumped-up budget, designer togs and new locales in Siddharth Anand's Bang Bang, an official remake of the 2008 flop Knight and Day. Bollywood writers take the original and re-cast it to fit a local film grammar. Besides the premise of an international agent Rajveer (Hrithik Roshan) kidnapping a low-IQ, maybe sexy girl Harleen (Katrina Kaif) and travelling the world avoiding bad guys, the plot of Bang Bang is markedly different from the original. A few sequences are directly redone but that's where the comparisons end. Knight and Day was mediocre at best. The remake comes with that legacy and even experienced writers like Sujoy Ghosh, Suresh Nair and Abbas Tyrewala are unable to add bang to this bland concoction. International criminal Omar (Danny Denzongpa) commands the theft of the Kohinoor diamond in order to thwart a new extradition treaty being drafted between UK and the Indian government. A bronzed and beautiful Rajveer is the one who has pulled off this seemingly impossible feat. On the run, he lands up in Shimla where he has a chance encounter with bank receptionist Harleen awaiting a blind date. This case of mistaken identity takes Harleen on a rollercoaster round-the-world trip, which she is often too drugged to enjoy. Then one day she awakens on a remote island clad in a bikini in a sequence reminiscent of Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, the film that catapulted Roshan to stardom 14 year ago. Rajveer and Harleen are chased by goons, guns and government agents, none of who are competent enough to land one bullet on target, as they seek out the diamond. Stalwarts like Vikram Gokhale and Pavan Malhotra deliver cheesy lines with a sneer, Denzongpa's two scenes are memorable only for the pastel-shaded jackets and cravats, Javed Jaffrey has three scenes to show off his cigar and freshly painted (tattooed) neck. The cinematography is poor in spite of some stunning locations such as Abu Dhabi, Thailand, Greece and Prague.

The dismal art direction jumps out of the screen. Fans of Katrina Kaif shall not be disappointed with her cutesy act (which she nails) and her jerky dance moves. But then there's Roshan"freshly worked out, hair carefully set. He makes light of the action scenes with as much confidence as he glides across the dance floor. He alone puts the bang in Bang Bang'. Bang Bang Review

October 2nd, 2014 by Mohar Basu

Bang Bang Movie Poster

Rating: 2.5/5 Stars (Two and half stars)

Star Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Danny Denzongpa

Director: Siddharth Anand

What's Good: The overwhelming stunts and two extremely gorgeous looking people.

What's Bad: I understand it's an official remake but the film feeds on the original, not trying anything new, unusual or bold. If you have seen the original, then there is very little for you to enjoy. The film's thrill quotient is low, hence. The writers did not toil enough in furthering the script, adhering to the original in terms of everything.

Loo break: Some.

Watch or Not?: Bang Bang is everything that Knight and Day was about and nothing even remotely as exciting as the original. It isn't bland or boring just doesn't match up to my expectations of the film. Gorgeous stunts, picturesque locales and a paper thin script might create a watchable film but it won't be a brilliant or memorable watch. Hrithik and Katrina despite giving sincere and earnest performances fail to retain the film's oomph quotient consistently. It isSiddharth Anand's lack of vision that has cost the film gravely. Nothing except the script can be blamed for it. If stunts can sustain you for an entire film, then Bang Bang is a steal. Others might need more than just that to satiate themselves.

Harleen (Katrina) is a receptionist at Bank of Shimla. Leading a dull life, she has a more boring life than her grandmother's. In an attempt to find love, she signs up for a blind date on an Internet dating website. At her date, she meets Rajvir (Hrithik) - gorgeous, sensitive and sweet, by the time she develops a crush on him, he is shooting down people and people hurling bullets at him. Harleen is stuck with him where she can't return because people think she is an alias of an international criminal. Rajvir has stolen the Kohinoor diamond from London and everyone from the Indian police to the international police to the crimelord smuggler, terrorist Omar (Danny) everyone is on the lookout for him. Harleen reluctantly accompanies him and finds herself brisking from one mess to another. Will they survive this Bang Bang is what the film retells.

Bang Bang Review: Script Analysis

I believe the script is as much to be blamed in the lack of energy in the film as the direction. Sujoy Ghosh, Abbas Tyrewala and Suresh Nair did not bother stretching the contours of Knight and Day. They limited the film to Bollywood frills making it a potboiler not above than the regular ones we frequently watch these days. As it is the film's story in the first place isn't a work of genius and in their attempt to translate it for Bollywood, the writers have garnished it with judicious helpings of bhai ka pyaar story, estranged family melodrama, nani Ki yaad and a bunch of regular stuff that fails to fit in with the film.

For the whole first hour, the film meanders in speed as a car show. As Hrithik and Katrina slip from one car to another, it is a shoot out fest. The songs and dances are too frequent. In fact I could have easily watched Hrithik dance for the whole while, it would have been more value for money!

I can point out the basic logic lapses as well. In one of the earlier scenes in the film, Hrithik is seen meeting a bunch of people in an open air Dhaba. Later, a CCTV footage of his was sent to the Delhi Headquarters. CCTV in a Dhaba in Shimla, really? Could creative liberty get more ridiculous than this?

If I manage to forgive the endorsement of Mountain Dew, Pizza Hut and Micromax, I will still stand by the fact that I hated the script. It is a blatant, scene by scene, a more desi illustration of Knight and Day. Those oblivious of the original will find this spectacular but frankly the slim story fails to inject emotions, chemistry or anything that will remain with you after the Film is over. This one is a glammed up version of Knight and Dayand Siddharth has extracted Hrithik from Dhoom 2, gave him better toys (read guns, pistols and exotic cars) and asked him to go have fun. Anything that makes you like this film, give it to Hrithik and even Katrina and if you get bored blame the writer trio!

Bang Bang Review: Star Performances

Hrithik Roshan might quiver in his emotional scenes but hell when someone is that good looking, it is hard to notice. Roshan fans will spend half the film ogling at his Greek God looks. But as Rajvir, thankfully Hrithik seems to be enjoying himself. He is casual and breezes through his part brilliantly. He is pitch perfect as Rajvir making his character an extension of his image from Dhoom 2, just better.

Katrina Kaif too is fluent in the role of Harleen. She is innocent and charming and does quite well what is expected of her. Though really low on action, I am glad the script did not serve her another measly, thankless part and gives it a shade different from Cameron's in the original.

Danny Denzongpa is not even half as menacing as you expect the villain to be. He is an absent character from the frame and when he makes an entry in the climax, he is left unused.

The same goes for Javed Jaffrey who is good as long as he is there but barely has much to do.

In a limited cameo, it is Jimmy Shergill who is terrific and such a pleasant surprise.

Bang Bang Review: Direction, Editing and Screenplay

Siddharth Anand's basic problem is his lack of foresight. He doesn't think far, in terms of his story or where the film is heading. Though Ek Din is the concept and lack of plan is the plan' in the story, it sometimes is better to chalk things out before the story goes haywire. There is a certain predictability that plagues the film. It seemed like Anand organized a ramp walk for cars, bullets, pistols, guns and ogle worthy people. If you seek at a very superficial level, all this is enough for you to woot for. But for me, the film had nothing worthwhile. Even comparing this to Dhoom 2 will be demeaning that film, because it was enthralling, got you ecstatic, had its share of nail biting, hair raising, adrenaline rushing cues. Bang Bang is just a plain bore like Katrina's character in the film.

Even the underwhelming and forgettable music would be meaningless if you take out Hrithik's dances from it.

Bang Bang Review: The Last Word

Bang Bang is a plain film that is mounted on a breathtaking canvas and remains steady at the superficial level only. Low on logic and more on frills and airs, the best thing about Bang Bang is Hrithik Roshan. He sincerely drives the film with his swagger and hot bod droolworthy looks, with Katrina aiding him with her cutesy innocence. But the lack of inventiveness in Bang Bang irks me. When I am done with ogling at the stunts and stars, I have nothing to remember it by. I am going with 2.5/5.

Bang Bang!

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, 2 Oct 2014, 02:51 hrs IST

Rating: 3.5 |

Rather than beating around the bush, let us directly come to the point as to: Is BANG BANG really as big as it's made out to be? The man who goes by the name of 'Hrithik Roshan' is back and how! This time, 'supporting' his acts are the highly sophisticated mean machines, hot wheel rubber whose road smooching creates friction, state of the art weapons and much more. When you have a film which is as big and magnanimous as this one, where you have monstrous budgets and colossal star power, the result will be nothing short of BANG BANG!

This film also guarantees the quintessential adrenaline rush through the medium of super high octane stunts, mega fast car chases and mind boggling action sequences. Add to that the ditched planes, shoot-outs, bombing raids and mayhem which are a pre-requisite of any action film. But does BANG BANG match upto the mammoth expectations from the film? Or is it just a gas balloon that will suffer a leak as time passes by, let's analyze.

The film starts with an unassumingly innocent girl Harleen Sahni (Katrina Kaif) who works as a bank receptionist. In a random turn of events (blind dating, to be precise), she accidentally happens to meet the extremely charming yet mysterious Rajveer Nanda (Hrithik Roshan), who is out on a secret mission. And anyone who comes in the line of his 'duty' simply gets eliminated by him... bang bang! There comes a situation when Harleen starts hating Rajveer, when she gets to know his identity. By then, the damage is already been done... sub-consciously she falls in love with him. The situation becomes such that, she cannot leave his side and the two engage in a series of action adventure across the world. Whenever she poses a question about Rajveer's background, either Rajveer ducks the question or the situation plays the villain. Amidst all this, enters the villainous Omar Zafar (Danny Denzongpa), who kills the nation loving army officer played by Jimmy Sheirgill, as he doesn't abide by his terms and conditions. The twists and turns of events lead Harleen to unravel Rajveer's biggest secret.

Who is Rajveer exactly? Why is he dragging Harleen along with him? And what does he really want from Omar Zafar... forms the rest of the story.

Director Siddharth Anand (who had earlier directed films like ANJAANA ANJAANI, BACHNA AE HASEENO, TARA RA RUM PUM and SALAAM NAMASTE) has made a sleek action packed adventure with BANG BANG. One has to applaud him for making the film that seems to be a perfect blend of grandeur and style. The film's story travels through Prague, US, Thailand and Greece amongst other countries and the idea was to keep a non-compromising approach on the scale of the film while giving the story its due.Even though he has made this film for the masses and classes alike, one thing is for sure that BANG BANG has really turned out to be escapist cinema at its best!

Hrithik Roshan makes absolutely no mistakes in getting his act together. There's no denying the fact that he plays the perfect Bollywood hero in this film, who can dance effortlessly, fight in style and charm the audiences. But what one really needs to applaud is the way he carries the film on his shoulders. No wonder then, he is the driving force of the film, on which the film can 'bang' upon! We have seen him in his stylized action avatar in DHOOM 2. His role in BANG BANG seems to be a hundred notches ahead of what he did in DHOOM 2. On the other hand, Katrina Kaif (who had been paired with Hrithik Roshan earlier as well in ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA) is supports him well as the leading lady. Overall, she plays her funny quirky character decently. Danny Denzongpa has a small but strong role as the main villain of the film. The other actors like Pawan Malhotra, Javed Jaffrey and Jimmy Sheirgill are decent.

The flip side of the film, however, is that its pace remains inconsistent. There are points where the film runs very slow but catches up with the action sequences that follow. Add to that, there are certain scenes in the film which go onto defy logic and even common understanding!

While the writing (Sujoy Ghosh, Suresh Nair) is average, the beautiful visuals of the film definitely arrest the audience's attention. There are places where the film's screenplay seem to falter at times, but the performances of the lead actors more than make up for these petty flaws. Ditto for the film's dialogues (Abbas Tyrewala), even though there aren't any path breaking one liners, there are certain quirky lines that are smartly used.

The film's action sequences are bound to take your breath away. And there is just one person to be credited for this and he is none other than the Hollywood action director Andy Armstrong (of The Amazing Spiderman 2 fame). He has indeed lived upto the hype and the expectations that were attached with BANG BANG. Some of the most remarkable action scenes in the film include Hrithik Roshan driving a F1 car, performing water-skiing after being tied to a sea-plane and doing the death-defying fly board stunts.

One of the film's many driving points is melodious music (Vishal Dadlani- Shekhar Ravjiani), which stays with you after the film. Vishal, who also doubles up as a singer for a couple of songs, really helps the film musically.

When you have the dancing god Hrithik Roshan himself, the pressure and expectations really mounts on the choreographers. In this film, its Bosco Martis, Caesar Gonsalves and Ahmed Khan who are instrumental in making Hrithik deliver one of his finest dance performances so far. The choreography of the 'Tu Tu Meri' track as well as 'Bang Bang' title song is remarkably outstanding. The film's choreography is equally stunning as well, bit in performances as well as visually.

Overall, the film's wide release during the long holiday should definitely work in its favour. Add to that, the popular starcast of the film will ensure that the movie sails through comfortably at the box-office. Another plus point to BANG BANG is that it has the least opposition from HAIDER at the box-office. So, if you are looking high-octane action scenes, sleek visuals, melodious music and if you love masala movies, then BANG BANG should definitely be your pick for this extended weekend.

FILM REVIEW: HRITHIK AND KATRINA'S BANG BANG IS A EXPLOSIVE DELIGHT

1/2

There couldnt have been a better name for this movie other than Bang Bang. Because as Hrithik had said earlier, there are a lot of Bang Bang moments in the movie that literally make you jump out of your seat like Hrithik in the water skiing scene.

A chance encounter of Harleen Sahni, played by Katrina Kaif, a bank receptionist, with the charming but mysterious Rajveer Nanda played by Hrithik Roshan, results in a pot purri of car chases, shoot-outs, bomb blasts and general collateral damage.

The action and camerawork is top notch and definitely at par with the best Hollywood has to offer. Danny Denzongpa as the villain Omar Zafar is menacing and his cool demeanour could only have been portrayed by none other than Danny. Pawan Malhotra, easily one of the most underrated actors of our generation is the other strength of this movie.

The Bang Bang title song featuring Hrithik and Katrina Kaif is a treat-as the two look incredible together on screen. Hrithik has done a great job of matching MJ step by step. His flexibilty and rhythm are the best that Bollywood has to offer and the part where he does a solo Michael Jackson moment towards the end of the video is a truly a whistle-worthy shot.

The unique water action sequences which were shot in Thailand and Greece are truly breathtaking and should be seen on the big screen. The rest of the action scenes show Hrithik in top form as he blasts his enemies to smithereens, and there willbe moments when you will feel like standing up and applauding. I would go with 3.5 stars for this movie.

GulfNews

ang Bang! is the film equivalent of reading a Mills & Boon romance novel. The hero (Hrithik Roshan) is tall, dark and handsome and the lead actress Katrina Kaif is an incredibly beautiful, never-been-kissed brunette.

But while these novels are relatively conflict-free (come on, whether the hunk will kiss the waif against her will doesn't call for global attention), Bang Bang! has enough explosions, bullet-spraying and car chases to make your head roll.

The story is straightforward. Roshan plays Rajveer Nanda, a deadly jewel thief who's in the market to hawk the Kohinoor diamond that he has stolen in London. How he does it is anyone's guess, but going by the way he demolishes and obliterates his enemies, this one he could pull off with his eyes closed.

During his mission to sell his loot, he runs into the wide-eyed, chaste bank receptionist Harleen Sahni. If Nanda oozes James Bond-like suaveness and insouciance, Sahni is a timid beauty.

She lives with her ahead-of-her-times grandma, looks for love on internet dating websites and is happily unaware of the effect she has on men. Kaif, as always, looks beautiful, but her dialogues sound juvenile. We wish she had been given a sassy role instead of a girl-trapped-in-a-woman's body role.

For instance, towards the end of the film she's forcibly injected a lethal dose of truth serum by the world's most wanted criminals (more on them later).

Naturally, her knight in shining armour swoops to her rescue. They are dodging bullets when she purrs: "I want to tear your shirt off". The next minute she becomes needy, badgering him about whether he finds her "exciting enough". Something tells me that these scenes were banking on their chemistry to make it explosive, but it just ended up looking cheesy. However, the redeeming portions of the film were their eventful encounters and witty exchanges in the first half. They have their moments, but corny lines weigh them down.

The action sequences filmed in Abu Dhabi, but not identified as the Middle East, and other picturesque locations such as Prague look slick and highly stylised. But the film would have benefitted hugely from a solid plot.

The only solid objects in this film, an official remake of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz's Knight and Day, were Roshan's washboard abs and Kaif's bikini-perfect body. The camera lovingly captures them in all their splendour and there are times when the film feels like a homage to six-packs. However, we wish the director had also given some love to the villains. Danny Denzongpa as the menacing Omar Zafar is ineffective as a bad guy. We wish his personality was as colourful as his bright, well-tailored jackets.

While the chemistry between Kaif and Roshan is crackling for most part, the film drags towards the end. Watch this one if you dig Roshan's toned torso and tousled hair. Kaif looks breathtaking but we wish she had dialed down the squeaky, I-am-so-cute dialogues.

I agree. The movie is great in terms of what it offers. Its what the normal audience love...dance action romance drama.. But If someone expects a milkha singh or rang de basanti out of bang bang then its not HR or Kat's or the director's fault. As simple as that :)

Thank you for this topic
In india critics (there so many of them now its getting ridiculious some dont know anything about filmmaking or journalism) tries really hard to make it seem that movies who arent dark or slow and hedgy are cr*p
I really liked bang bang ek tha tiger chennai express
It doesn't make me a idiot or brainless
Sometimes you just want to believe in heroes who kick the bad guy and heroism and amazing love story
