Part 3
"Bapu-sa, Amma!! Amma is in pain!! Bapu-sa please let me go to her, please Bapu-sa!!" Meera sobbed, beating her tiny fist on the glass window.
"She is not your Amma, sweetheart. She is nothing! Let her be in pain." his voice came out, devoid of any emotion. He sat inside the car.
"She is my Amma! She is in pain! She is not moving! Bapu-sa please!!" Meera cried loudly.
He was walking in the woods when he heard the screams. He stopped dead in his track and looked around, the voices were coming from the road side. Changing his route, he turned towards the highway. As nearer he got, the voice grew louder. He ran towards the voice.
"No! Bapu-sa, Amma! I want to go with Amma! Please Bapu-sa! Please!!" Meera cried, her eyes fixed at her mother's unconscious form, losing her sight as the car took the speed.
He reached the road, huffing and puffing, and stood shocked at the scene that greeted him. Bathed in blood, she lay there, hardly any traces of the glowing pale skin he had beheld this morning. Before he can comprehend anything, his ear caught the voice of an engine roaring, his attention shifted to the car that sped as soon as he laid his eyes on it. Shifting his gaze again to the figure lying there, he ran towards her. Catching her, he pulled her in his arms, her blood now coloring his hands.
"Shit!! You are bleeding.." he looked at her pink chunnari, sticking to her skin, all red. "Who did this?! Open your eyes! Where is that little girl?!" he looked around, searching for the tiny figure which owned those two almond shaped eyes.
"Meera... He took her ... please save her ... I want my daughter ... I will die without her ... Please Meera ..." Parvati sobbed in her semi conscious state. "He took her in ... car... My Meera ..."
He looked at the car which was turning around the corner and then again at the unconscious figure in his arms.He picked her up and ran towards a tree. He carefully rested her against the tree.
"Don't worry, I will bring her..." Unwilling to leave her, he stood up.
He ran in the woods, knowing very well how to reach the speeding car.
"Bapu-sa, Amma!! I want to go to Amma. I will not go back!! Amma!!"
"Shhh ...Sweetheart ... She is not your Amma, forget her ... An..." He punched the brake immediately.
"Hey you crazy Man!! Marna hai kya?!! Go somewhere else and die!!" He shouted from inside the car.
"Help!! Please help me!!!" Meera shouted seeing the same man who had made the meal for her last night.
He came forward and pulled the car door open.
"Hey, who are you and what are you doing?!"
"You will get to know who I am and also what I am about to do!!" he pulled him outside the car, his jaw clenched, a clear indication of the fury burning inside him. "Very soon!" His red ragging eyes looked at him.
"Do you know who I am? I am Varun Rathod! You know who Varun Rathod is, don't you?"
"I very well know who you are." He caught his collar in a tight grip. "Nothing but a scumbag ... beating woman ... You bas***d!" he punched him straight on his face and dragged him away from the car. His eyes caught the belt lying on the car seat, the blood strains still visible. Bending, he took the belt in his hand,.. red color of herbody bursting in front of his eyes. "Time for some payback!" Taking the belt in a tight grip, he splashed it across his chest, shoulder and back, wanting to see the same red color on his cotton white shirt, which he, just a moment ago, had seen onher body. And before Varun can defend himself, he was half way to unconscious.
"A man like you is nothing but piece of shit! Filthy bas***d!!" Pushing him on the ground, he moved towards the back door and opened it.
"Amma! He beat Amma! She was not opening her eyes! I want to go to Amma.." Meera jumped in his arms, clinging to him for her dear life.
"Shhh... calm down ..." he tightened his hold on her and again entered the woods, running as fast as his legs allowed him.
"Amma!!" Meera cried as she saw her Amma lying unconscious. Coming out of his arms, she ran towards her Amma. "Amma! Amma! Why are you not opening your eyes. Open your eyes, Amma...please..." Meera patted her mother's cheek.
"Shhh..." He pulled Meera away and took Parvati in his arms. "Don't worry, she will be fine.." he looked down at Meera. "Catch this, I don't want you to get lost in this woods." He held out the end of his shirt to Meera.
Meera held it immediately and started walking with him, her hiccuping and sobbing not subsiding a bit.
He pushed the door open and entered inside. Walking to the bed, he laid Parvati there and then turned towards the kitchen. Taking a steel container, he poured some water and kept it on the stove. He was about to walk towards the bed again, when he felt a tug at his shirt and he looked down to see Meera, still catching the end of his shirt, but her eyes fixed at her mother.
"You can leave my shirt now..." he said.
"But ... But you said ... I will get lost if I leave your shirt ... I don't want to get lost ... I want to be with my Amma..."
He stared in her innocent eyes, and as if hypnotized by those beautiful orbs, his hand reached to catch the tiny hand holding his shirt.
"No ... You can leave my shirt now... You will not get lost ..." He assured and looked at the bed. He moved towards her and sat down on the bed. Her white choli and pink chunnari was sticking to her wounds. He closed his eyes for few seconds, gathering himself. With his slightly trembling hand, he reached for her chunaari and unpinned it. .
"Haaaww! Why did you removed Amma's chunnari?" Meera's wide eyes looked at him.
"Can't you see her wounds? How am I supposed to clean that and aid it if I don't do that. "he got up and walked towards the kitchen. Taking out a clean cloth from the cabinet, he turned the burner off and took the container towards the bed.
Again sitting beside her, he looked at her, her small white choli, covering only her breast. He dipped the cloth in the lukewarm water and started cleaning the wounds on her stomach and her arms, his stomach knotting at every touch his rough hand was leaving against her unbelievably soft skin . As he finished with that, he turned her to clean the wounds on her back, his teeth grinding at its own accord as he saw the gashes on her back, barely suppressing the urge to reach that man again and slice his every wound hundred times more-- a urge that frightened him. He had never felt this way before. An emotional, cold man he was tagged with, and as he lived this new feeling, it frightened him as well as angered him.
"Amma's leg is hurt too..." Meera said, gaining his attention.
He nodded his head and again laying Parvati on her back, he knelt near her leg to clean the wounds on her feet.
Keeping the water aside, he again went to the cabinet to bring ointment. He applied the ointment on her wounds.
"Amma will be alright na?" he heard her say and looked in her concerned eyes.
"Yes, she will be fine."
"When will she open her eyes...?"
"I am not some Doctor to tell you the precise time..."
"Hmm... Thank you for bringing me and Amma back..." Meera went towards him and took his hand in hers. Catching his hand, she brought it near her lips and kissed the back of his palm. "Abhaar..." Meera smiled.
He stared at her sweet face, only appreciation shinning in her eyes.
He awkwardly nodded and pulled back his hand.
" You... You sit by your mother ... I will ... I will be back by evening ..." he said and before he can move from his place, Meera again caught his hand to stop him.
"No! Please don't go. What if he comes here again? He will again beat Amma and will take me away..."
"Noone will come here. No one knows about this place. And you don't worry about him, he will take at least a month to stand on his two feet..." he assured her. Picking her up, he kept her beside her Amma.
"You sit here, look after her. And if you are hungry, then sorry, I don't have anything for now. But I will bring dinner when I return. You will have to do without lunch. " he walked towards the door but stopped and turned to look at her. "And don't worry, I will lock the door from outside."
And he was gone...
