Chapter 3
Kalpi walks out of Ragav's office with tear brimming in her eyes, shutting the door she mutters, "don't you dare fall... Else I will be flipping mad!" Never had she met anybody so rude. Taking a few steps towards her office, she freezes for by the secretary's desk is an older version of the man who just yelled at her. Smiling she walks up, emptying the contents she is holding into a bin nearby and says chirpily, "good morning Mr Singhania. How may I help you?"
"Good morning beautiful. You are new here. What is your beautiful name?,"Ragav's father replies teasingly, to which Kalpi flushes and says, "Kalpana." "Ah!" Ragav's father says, "it means dream right." Ragav's father continues flirtatiously, "I wonder if you already are somebody's dream," he says as he wriggles his bushy white eyebrows making Kalpi burst out laughing. In between her laughter Kalpi replies, "yes sir, I already am somebody's dream." With a dramatic flair Ragav's father pretends to pierce his heart with a knife, using his hands as a knife and says in a dramatic manner, "oh my poor heart... It is broken I say, broken." Kalpi wipes the tears that fall from her eyes that was caused by her laughter and says, "my fathers." Ragav's father continues with his dramatics making Kalpi clutch her tummy as she laughs uncontrollably, gasping for air as she says, "stop sir, oh gosh I am going to have a tummy ache with all this laughter."
Ragav's father watches Kalpi laughing away, happy that he was successful in changing her tears to laughter. Admiring her for her strength and her resolve in not giving into her tears. He had been on his way to his office when he heard Ragav yelling at someone. Sighing he had thought, "not again. I am fed up with that boy." Thinking that Ragav was yelling at his secretary, Anjali, for she was not at her desk. He was surprised for Ragav has never before yelled at the matronly lady, he had decided to wait and apologise on his son's behalf. To his surprise the lady that walked out of his son's office was a young girl, who looked like she was ready to cry.
Hearing loud laughter outside his office, Ragav frowns and heads out to see what is going on. He sees his father flirting with his new PA. He angrily waits for his father to leave then storms towards Kalpi. In a cold and clipped voice he says, "Ms Jhadav" as his hand snakes out and grasps her on her upper arm tightly. Not realising that he is holding her forcefully, he says silkily, "how dare you flirt with my father?" Giving her a disgusted look he continues, "how dare you use this job and my company to try..." Unable to finish his sentence for fury is building within him.
Kalpi's eyes tear up because of the pain she feels due to his tight hold Hearing his cruel word, she gasps allowed, shocked that he would think such a thing. Unable to take the slur, she says furiously, "how dare you presume to think you know? Let go of my arm!" Her gaze filled with fury as she waits for him to release his hold on her. Ragav looks at her in surprise, for he is not used to having anyone talk back to him, especially not an employee. Releasing her arm, he just looks at her, his mind blank. Kalpi rubs the area that he held on to and says, "apologise!" Looking at her in disbelief, without a word he turns and walks back into his office.
Kalpi heads into her office waiting for someone to come so that her induction can begin. Half an hour later, bored out of her mind, she gets up and decides to walk around the floor, to familiarise herself. She heads off to see what Priya is doing. Priya sees Kalpi and gestures her to come into the office, says, "sorry I rushed off earlier. I had some urgent things to do. Sammy was waiting for some documents to be scanned and sent to him. Come let me introduce you to the others on this floor."
They head out as Priya continues on, "I am Sammy's PA. He is the CFO of the company. That office there belongs to Ajay uncle, Ragav's father. He is the chairman of the company and is semi retired. We have two secretaries on this floor that is shared between us, Anjali and Maria. You must have met Anjali. Maria is away on vacation." Kalpi shakes her head and says, "no I have not met Anjali. In fact there is nobody at the desk." Frowning Priya and Kalpi walk to the front, seeing this, Priya takes the call and calls HR. "Hi this is Priya from 27th. Why has no cover staff been sent to the floor? Please see to it immediately." She looks at Kalpi and says, "somebody should come soon."
"I have a half an hour window. Do you want any questions? Anything you want me to help you with." Priya asks Kalpi. "Yes please," Kalpi replies, "should I not be shadowing someone for a week at least. How do I know what is going on? Where is the previous PA?" "Let me see what I can arrange, PR should have arranged something." Kalpi's office phone rings, Priya says, "looks like Ragav needs you, better answer it."
"Yes sir," Kalpi says into the phone, "yes sir right away." She looks up to Priya and says, "Ragav sir wants some files, Phoenix corporation, Leo constructions and woodlands limited. Where do I get these files from?" Priya opens the first drawer on Kalpi's desk and hands her a laminated sheet of paper. These are all the extension numbers for this floor and for reception that you will need. Call extension 277 for files and ask the staff there to bring you the files you want. The first two digits represents the floor." As Priya heads out Kalpi thanks her and calls the filing room.
Without acknowledging Kalpi, Ragav heads out at five o'clock sharp. Having not been given any instructions, Kalpi waits until half five and then heads out with Priya. Reaching the reception lobby, Kalpi sees Ragav hugging a gorgeous woman, unable to resist she asks, "who is she?" Priya looks in the direction Kalpi is looking, recognising the girl as Avantika, a well known model. She replies, "that is Avantika. There were rumours that she and Ragav used to date some three months ago."
