One of the key things that highlighted yesterday was distribution of SIM cards without proper verification. A card was issued in the name of a person who was dead three years ago.
Actually the shop keeper passing the buck to mobile company and mobile company passing buck to the shop keeper is common.
SIM cards are used extensively for illegal activities and it is time the shop keepers and mobile companies take some ownership of whom they are issuing the cards.
Some precautions can be taken, like ensuring only the person in the name of whom the SIM is applied asked to come personally to give forms, making a random call to the landline, visiting the neighbor hood etc..
Because finally it is not about some 50-100 rs extra it is about the security of our own dear and near ones. In bomb blasts that happen we can also lose someone near to us.
Blaming government and police alone will not do. Citizens also need to play their part so that we all get a secure environment.
