As always a fantastic chapter Jenny, by all accounts.
What I loved the most in the chapter was seeing Arnav in his myriad hues... The respectful, yet confident Arnav. Arnav the smart negotiator. The tender & grateful Arnav. The flirty & mischievous Arnav. The sad & melancholic Arnav & last but not the least, the loving & romantic Arnav.
Let me start off with the respectful & confident Arnav, who knows how to negotiate like a pro. I am really surprised & even shocked when people just want to have their cake & eat it too all the time these days. Society be damned, morals be damned, feelings of other people be damned. It is always about me, my & mine these days... To think, of compromise as a weakness of someone is a huge folly IMHO.
This egotistical society that we live in, only revolves around the word "Me", sees only my wants, my needs, my happiness & damnation be to everybody else's feelings & thoughts, needs & wants, literally scares me. It is beyond pathetic to see these kinds of thinking. No wonder the world has become so selfish, where everybody is out for themselves only. Where is the caring?? Where is the giving?? Where is the compromise that we are all taught to do in order to live happily together in this world?? We have five fingers on each hand & each is different & compliments the other. Together they pack a punch but individually they have their unique characteristics but not much strength. So we need them all...
Likewise, if we all stand up individually & not carry others with us in our endeavors, we will soon fall flat on our faces when there will be no one to support us when the time comes. We, as humans, are a dependent race. Let alone humans, even nations have to compromise on their demands in the name of world peace & stability. No one, just about no one can lead a happy & fulfilling life on their own without the help or care of their families & friends. So when they demand something of you, in lieu of something they are willing to give you, then a sensible person gives in gracefully, without holding grudges. And it takes a smart man to negotiate properly. In this case, for Arnav, the non-negotiable factor was Khushi, once he had secured that promise, he found no problems in compromising on a smaller issue of not seeing Khushi till his divorce comes through.
I am so, so, so glad that you touched upon this aspect of human interaction in the conversation between Arnav & Navin. Navin was perfectly in his rights to demand a moratorium on Arnav & Khushi seeing each other. And Arnav like a wise & sensible person gave in gracefully. One has to be able to compromise in life, & those who don't or can't are in for a lot of trouble I must say. And Khushi too, knew her dad was right, it was actually what she had thought of doing herself when she had left Srinagar, but her plans were waylaid by Arnav's grief & that is ok. Tough times, call for tough measures. You have to be flexible & adjust to each situation wisely. But now that Arnav is in a much better shape than he was previously, he can be fine without meeting Khushi all the time.
After all, there is an ominous shadow, in the form of Lavanya, looming in the background. And now that she is heading back to Cleveland & will be meeting Arnav, it is by all means a wise decision to take... But that brings to mind a question, I wonder how she will find out about Khushi?? I hope Arnav does not make the mistake of telling her about Khushi... That would be a disastrous move by all accounts.
Now to the sad & melancholic Arnav... All these days I have vehemently defended Astha for her reservations about Arnav & Khushi... But in this update, I for the first time in this story found her to be regressive in nature... I am not sure what she is hoping for?? She seems to contradict her own self. On the one hand she sees in Khushi, a daughter she never had, as opposed to the superficial relationship she shared with Lavanya, yet, she won't accept that La is history?? While she claims she has seen the positive changes that Khushi has been able to bring about in Arnav, but she still won't accept their relationship?? Does she seriously not know what pain her son has endured all these past months?? Or she chooses to ignore his pain & sorrow & focus only on his refusal to reconcile with Lavanya?? Does she seriously not understand her son?? That he was not happy with La long before Khushi appeared on the scene, so now that he has decided to move on & luckily has found a partner that he is supremely happy with, what is her problem?? She certainly isn't earning any brownie points from Arnav by being this regressive for sure. I can see Arnav being a lot more closer to his FIL-to-be in the future than his own mother, if Astha keeps on harping like a broken record.
I loved the reply Arnav gave her, that hindsight is always 20/20. We can all look back upon things objectively when we have the privilege of knowing what the outcome has been. Similarly, we hope for the best in the future & our vision is colored by those rosy glasses. But as he said, the present has no such luxury. When it is a matter of survival, one takes whatever measures from resources that are available at that moment & hope that you're making the right decision. No one knows how things are going to play out in the future, but one does have the right to make informed guesses & hope for the best.
The flirty & mischievous Arnav... Arnav is a killer stud no doubt... My heart went pit-a-pat reading this... And I LOL when I read that Khushi was taking pride in her ownership of that sexy stud... That was so cute.
Aware that several feminine eyes on the boat were similiarly entranced by his magnificence, Khushi's hear couldn't help but feel a thrill of ownership.
He was dressed in dark jeans, aviators and a white, collared, button up shirt with it's sleeves rolled up to the elbows. And as if that was not enough, a salty breeze blew against him, gently ruffling his hair and plastering his shirt against his stone hard abs.
Loved the texting. His question about her period was out of this world. Even I would have liked to see Khushi's reaction at that question... It must have been priceless as he said š
The tender & loving side of Arnav came out beautifully when he recalls how he has never thanked Khushi for her huge compromise & being there for him when he needed her most... An angel he calls her & an angel she is. Loved how both of them made light of the situation but their tears manage to convey what their words didn't...
And the second time was when he realizes the reason behind Khushi's "mood swing" as he put it... Glad he wasted no time at getting to the bottom of the issue... And when he realizes her hurt, he was quick to melt her into a puddle with his adorable proposal. That was one of the best proposals I have heard till date. Jenny, you did great, take a bow.
His cheeky proposal via that stalker's anthem said a lot. To him, Khushi is already his. Her answer really doesn't matter anymore... Just like their first kiss, "Are words even necessary?" It is now purely academic. The marriage rites that he is willing to undergo, albeit quite reluctantly, is yet another compromise on his part for his lady love, and is a mere formality as far as he is concerned... He is already committed to his Khushi for life.
I won't touch upon that dream since I already spoke about it when you posted it previously as a teaser...
After a wonderfully romantic chapter like that, I am tightening my belt for the rough stormy seas ahead. See you on the other side of that storm Jenny, hopefully soon. š
