The international audience will watch Jodha Akbar not just for the story, but also the culture, the history and the traditions of India. Very few movies or TV programs from india can do that. In fact, this glimpse into the "exotic India" is one of the reasons for popularity of Jodha Akbar worldwide.
We complain and curse, but we are still here, still watch and still come to the forum. That says a lot. Besides, let us not overestimate the viewing tastes of the International audience. I know of Russian programs that will make most Indians puke. And did you know, in Indonesia, Hatim Tai is one of the most popular imports from India.
@ bold. Agree whole heartedly.
Don't be embarrassed friends. As long as we respect our culture, others will too. There are a lot of foriegn programs on TV that are tailor made for a certain population( the foriegn trp Janta) . For example, their soaps, talk shows( ever watched jerry springer?) and news based programs. International audience understand the concept of NR ( their shows and movies hv plenty of that)
For foriegners, the most attractive aspect of JA is the unusual love story ( a powerful muslim king falls in love with a headstrong, beautiful Hindu princess from an enemy clan...they are suckers for such love hate stories based on history) . They are also very curious about India and its culture. Some are sadly ill informed and still think of India as a land of snake charmers. But, those people shouldn't count...they barely know enough about their own country and culture. Regardless, almost everyone, no matter what their IQ is, finds a lovestory like JA hard to resist. We have the advantage (or disadvantage) of knowing the real history...so we get frustrated. They don't know...so they won't find too many faults with the show and will enjoy the drama more than anyone of us. Young good looking leads will further add to the popularity. So relax...we don't hv to prove anything to them. They are already fascinated by our culture.šš
