Right project for Amrita
WHEN a filmmaker like Shyam Benegal offers you a role, you simply grab it without worrying about the length and breadth of your role. And it was no different with Amrita Rao who had been looking for a role which would take her beyond the old-world elegance that she is best known for.
She has at last found the right project. "When I got a call from Shyam Benegal's office saying he wanted to meet me I was over the moon. He has always been on my wish list. I didn't ask any questions. I immediately said yes. He has told me nothing much about my character and the script. After I saw what he did with Karisma Kapoor in Zubeida, I just felt I should be directed by him. I was travelling so I met him when I returned and we were on."
Although Amrita hasn't heard the script, she is very excited about the film. She says, "I play a village girl and the film is to be shot in Hyderabad. My co-star is Shreyas Talpade. I absolutely adored his work in Dor."
Shyam Benegal hasn't seen Amrita in any film. "What really excites me is that I get to do a workshop before we start the film. We'll start the workshop very shortly. And for me who's had no formal training in acting, this is a like a new avenue opening up," says Amrita. Amrita's next release is E Niwas' My Is Anthony Gonzalves. Amirita says, "It's a very sweet script. I start shooting UTV's Hook Or Crook shortly. Then I have Anil Kapoor's Short Cut with Akshaye Khanna and Arshad Warsi. I've worked with Akshaye in Deewaar and Arshad was there with me in Wah Life Ho To Aisi." She was also shooting for a Telegu film in Austria because of which she couldn't shoot for all-star guest song for Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om. "But I did participate in the item song in Farah's brother Sajid's Heyy Babby. For Farah, anytime," adds Amrita.
