i depends on the child. If they are interested, parents should give them the opportunity to join these EC, if they arent interested, let them be. they will find other hobbies for themselves. A friend of mine has been taking piano lessons, classical indian dance classes and girls scout since she was very young. She doesnt really like them but her parents insist she takes them. They feel it wil keep her occupied, make her a more well-rounded person and the all time favorite...look good on college application resumes

i think its totally upto the kid. parents should not pressure the kids into getting involved in certain sports or activities simply b/c the neighbours kids are involved.

however, i do beleive that there are certain things that every kid must learn....such as swimming.

plus extracurricular activities are good for the children........more time spent away from the tv the better.
