Randhir closed the book instantly after reading it. Sanyukta said nothing...because something that was whirling in their mind didn't let them speak. It reminded them of their first kiss! Be it a hate kiss, but a kiss is kiss always! Randhir could still feel the soft touch of her lips on his' must admit, he had been through the impact of their kiss but never he did accept it and so it was veiled with his ego, the fact that they were together, hell close in a blanket made him feel bit nervous all of sudden!
Minutes passed like that and they both even didn't look at each other, they didn't even exchange a word either... The deadly eerie silence hanging around them made them even more uncomfortable; randhir was turning restless and was shifting in his place incessantly. He couldn't resist it anymore and began to steal glances at her from the corner of his eye! To his surprise she too looked so restless and nervous.
"was she thinking about me??" he asked himself but before he could Answer himself she turned to face him, randhir immediately averted his gaze, cause he knew he couldn't control the urge to kiss her anymore..!
"Rand..." "sanyuk..." they both spoke at the same time and smiled at that
"You say first" he managed hard to speak looking here and there trying to suppress his urge to kiss her,
"No! You first" she insisted making puppy face and his heart melted,
"Umm! I... am... Uh... Nothing!" he stammered... She was shocked to see him in such state, he was entirely different to that randhir shekawat whom she had seen just hours back, in the scrap yard!
"whaatt?" she raised her brows
"Umm! Nothing, I am hungry I think" randhir said wondering at himself that why did he said that. "Oops!" He knew, he said that instead of saying something else! But she was smiling at him! She quickly grabbed her handbag and rummaged it. Couple of seconds later, she ended up taking out a chocolate, she was smiling as if she discovered a hidden earth treasure! Randhir just couldn't help smiling at her quintessence...
"yelo... this is what all I have" she said handing it to him. He smiled as he took the chocolate from her hands; he meekly took a bite and silently passed it to her
"Uh? You sure!?" she mocked and sarcasm dripped her tone.
"Oh c'mon" randhir rolled his eyes
"Okay okay!" she smiled and took the chocolate
That went in silence for a couple of minutes, all the while sanyukta's mind was racing with thoughts. She felt the difference. She couldn't even relate the randhir singh shekawat with whom she spent 4 years in the college to the randhir singh shekawat of those particular 4 hours. She loved the way with him and never wanted the moment to go. So she decided to speak.
"randhir" she called out passing the chocolate to him.
"Hmm" he said taking the chocolate and busily enjoying the last bite.
"Don't you think that something has changed between us?" she posed narrowing her eyes. Her words struck to his heart leaving him in shock. Suddenly he choked and began to cough.
"Randhir... Randhir" she rose on her knees and began to rub his back gently. But he was uncontrollable and was coughing vigoursly. Her eyes turned blood rod and his coughing began to disturb vardhan sir's sleep
"god.! Ab mai kya karu" sanyukta stood up and began to look here and there. She finally found water bottle beside Vardhaan sir's bed. Without second thought she rushed to reach the bottle and grabbed it... Randhir was still coughing and sanyukta hurried to him... She handed the bottle to him. He quickly opened its cap and gulped down the remainings in the bottle while Sanyukta was standing beside him, watching him. He looked up and began to cough again
"arre yaar..! What to do" she frowned rubbing her forehead, looking here and there. Randhir was still looking at her and was smiling, because he was acting as if he was really coughing... He paused a bit enjoying her innocent face in tension. She looked down and he finged cough again.
"randhir... you okay..!" she bent down and he coughed again. Her eyes almost turned moist. And there this stupid mcp enjoying her caring nature.
"Uh-oh.! Just wait" she stood and began to walk towards the door. And all of sudden randhir burst out laughing on seeing her like that, she was puzzled at his laughter and came back to him
"Why are you laughing??? And you seemed okay?" she bent down sitting abreast of him.
"you are such a kid sanyukta..." he burst out laughing again.
"What? You. What the hell? You are making fun of my feelings? Bloody mcp!" she began to hit him on his shoulders... He was still smiling at her. "Very funny huh?" she continued to hit...and her voice was breaking, she was uncontrollable and randhir noticed it. Her voice was rising with every passing second disturbing vardhan sir's sleep.
"Sanyukta... sanyukta" he tried to stop her but he couldn't. He rose on his knees clasping her shoulders tight
"ouch! Leave me randhir, leave me! You bloody stupid idiot" she scowled, struggling in his grip and they began to squabble.
"farzi.. Shh! Calm down.." he shook her hard but she jerked her shoulders trying to free herself from his grip and it made him loose his control over himself, he lost his control and fell on her. Within time of blink they both fell down on the floor. sanyukta was on the floor and randhir was on her! The force with which he fell on her..Just made his lips touch her's...
His lips touched her's and again it happened! The unconditional reflex... She shut her eyes tightly and kissed him back... It was not a complete kiss though. But was more than a peck. Randhir was hell shocked. His mind stopped to register things going around. But he some how managed to get up. He got up staring at her in surprise...and she slowly opened her eyes, their eyes met and a lone tear escaped from the corner of her eyes... She was still locked in his arms with her hands against his chest and he was staring at her, nonplussed. He felt a sudden surge of emotions, world had stopped for him. He was confused at the same time.
"Why she kissed me back?" he kept on asking himself all the while he got up and stood beside her whilst she too got up dusting her dress. A deadly eerie silence occupied the room they both didn't exchange a word. Sanyukta was looking at him and was averting her gaze whenever he caught her glancing at him. Seconds passed and still their hearts were thumping. and the silence it was killing him. He just wished to wash away that moment. But he knew. He had to face it! He silently walked towards the bed and sat down on the floor.
"I...I...Didn't mean it...uh... Am sorry!" he mumbled breaking the awkward silence trying not to make eye Contact. She said nothing. She just walked to the window and stood there staring at the spreaded darkness. Her heart was skipping beats all the while she thought about what had happened just.
"Shall we continue reading?" randhir tried to initiate the conversation.
"You carry on randhir. I'll join later" she said short. ending the conversation there. She was shivering as the cool midnight zephyr hit her face. Randhir stood up with the blanket in his hand and walked up to her. She was facing the window and was unaware of his movement. He silently reached her and wrapped the blanket around her. Sanyukta's eyes widened, she turned to face him, in astonishment. He stood there with blank expression on his face yet his eyes were speaking a lot which even their hearts had never spoke and sharing so many mushy moments with her dark deep eyes!
"You need this. I think." he muttered and walked back to the bed... He sat down silently and took the diary to his hands... But he couldn't even concentrate for a second. His mind was completely filled with her thoughts, he was turning restless with every passing second. He just couldn't read a bit at least... He was shifting in his place and was fiddling with the wrinkled ends of the pages of the diary in his hands, time seemed to be frozen... He was crossing his fingers every now and then for no reason and was astonished at inheriting her habit of crossing fingers.
It soon became unbearable for him and so he decided to take a nap and push her out of his head. He closed the dairy and hugged it to heart, resting his head back. Within seconds he slipped into sleep...Minutes later randhir woke up with a jerk as he felt his head leaning against someone's shoulder. He woke up checking on his side and was stupefied to sanyukta by his side.
"tum??"
"Can we continue reading??" she said wrapping her in blanket and leaving the other end free. Randhir smiled and wrapped the other end of the blanket around him and he took the diary. They continued to read
