Guys, a neutral topic for all of us to discuss.

How many of you think that the joint family system - the whole family living under the same roof is good? What are the pros and cons?
Today's India I think is prone towards micro families. Hardly anybody lives in joint families, at least not in the big cities. I have never lived in a joint-family and so am sometimes at a loss in understanding how it works.

I am sure it needs a lot of adjustment, tremendous amount of patience and a bad memory to forgive and forget all the bad things( such as constant bickerings, jealousies and fights) that take place and to continue living together!!!!
I am sure there are some good things about it and some bad. But if you have a family like kasturi's, then it must be all bad!!! 😕

Anybody lived in a joint-family?

Nope i have never lived in a joint family and i believe it have more disadvantages as compared to its advantages. Its better that families get together for sometimes like in vacations or wedding and stuff and enjoy for sometime together and after a couple of days everyone should get back to their own houses and routine in this way there will be no burden ,controversies and issues well this is my opinion and everybody will be happy with there own family.

i second your thoughts...it looks good in serials but in today world its quite impossible to live in joint famly...those who are living without fireworks i say are some lucky ppl.

i just lived for a few years of my childhood in ajoint familly.in a joint familly usually the relationship is always at stake probably due to diminutive things like children fight there is a proverb in hindi "agar rishta rakhna hoto dhur raheo"(i am dont remember the exact words) but usually in all dramas it deals around a joint familly otherwise how can they keep the story going without jointfamilly fights.

I have not lived in a joint family but something close. My uncles and aunts and we used to be neighbours. But that itself was creating lot tensions and problems. If under one roof then the problems must be more. Ofcourse
you have fun sharing happy moments, maybe this is the only advantage. I personally feel that joint family hampers ur progress. If it is just couple and children they have more time to think about themselves and plan. In joint family I think ur time is lost in handling other and with constant interference.
