BCCI hits Dhoni's biopic for six

No film on the Indian cricket skipper till he retires from the game.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the most successful Indian cricket captain, will have to wait till he hangs up his boots to see himself on screen. MSD had earlier given his nod to a biopic to be directed by Neeraj Pandey (of A Wednesday fame). Buzz is, the star player, demanded Rs 40 crore for the rights to make a film on his life.
According to the grapevine, Sushant Singh Rajput was to essay the role of the Indian X1's 33-year-old Captain Cool. The actor reportedly had a long meeting with Dhoni too.
Now for the spoiler: The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has told MSD that his life cannot be transferred to celluloid, till he continues to play cricket professionally.
"MSD has no choice but to comply," says a friend of Dhoni who is close to the development, adding that the Rs 40 crore-demand had taken the planned film's budget to over Rs 100 crore.
"To begin with, it was not a commercially viable project because a sports drama, even on a game as popular as cricket, has a niche audience. But the real roadblock came from BCCI. If we do go ahead with the film it will only happen after MSD's career on the field has come to an end," adds the friend.
