I offer something in free. DA could communicate freely without Umbridge knowing
Fifth was my very first, very first time was created to help DA communicate
Second I was shown last. Galleon's second appearence was when Ginny came into the Room of Requirement before the battle and said everyone was informed by it to come to Hogwarts

I do want you can't see, The galleon wasn't a currency but a communication device
For the independent important was me. in this case the independent are DA as they formed their own class of DADA and the galleon was their means of knowing when to meet.
