TALK ABOUT jumping to conclusions. While wild rumours hit the media that Rani Mukherji had recently got engaged to Aditya Chopra, apparently, the Chopras were having the last laugh. The reports carried details:

Rani wore a maroon sari with silver work on it. Aditya Chopra wore a Pallavi Jaikishen designed kurta-pyjama. The guest list included Kirron and Anupam Kher, and Jugal Hansraj. The Chopras and Mukherjis were present. A roka (engagement) ceremony was held. There were about 60 people present. The engagement was held at the same bungalow that the Chopras shot for Chandni.

Well, a lot of this does hold true except for one major detail — Rani did not get engaged to Aditya.

The truth is that the Chopras indeed used the same bungalow as they shot for Chandni. BUT... it was because they were shooting for their film Laaga Chunri Mein Daag, with Rani Mukherji. Obviously there were a lot of people present on the sets — it was a shooting after all and several unit technicians were required.

Also true is the outfit Rani wore, and a roka ceremony was being shot... Only it was supposed to be her screen ceremony with Abhishek Bachchan for the film. On the said day, Abhishek was not present on the sets, so Rani's portion was being shot solo.

Anupam Kher was certainly present — he plays Rani's father in the film.

And last but not least, where does Adi fit into all of this? Dressed in a kurta-pyjama, he dropped in on the sets, to see if the shooting was progressing okay!
Naturally then, it was easy for Pam Chopra, the Khers, and an official spokesperson from YashRaj Films to issue a denial in the media thereafter! In fact, looks like they were having the last laugh!

As things stand today, Rani still denies any plans to settle down with Aditya Chopra. Whether the final settlement where his divorce to Payal Khanna is concerned, is not clear either.

In fact, the only truth to a story that involves the Chopras and a celebration is that Uday Chopra did have a huge party that night for a few relatives and close friends.

So in a mistaken bid, people might have thought that the party was thrown by Rani and Adi, to celebrate their 'so-called' engagement!
