Chapter Four; I Get What I Want
I'll teach him a lesson he'll never forget.
I walk into my former office and a feeling of nostalgic hits me. Nothing's changed here...except for some of the employees. I close my eyes and take a deep breath, and proceed to the new secretary, Priya
"Hi. My name is Zoya's Farooqui and I would like to meet Mr. Khan please."
"Do you have an appointment Ms. Farooqui?" The secretary asks.
"No, but it's very important that I go meet him today. My life will change dramatically if I just meet him once."
Okay, so maybe it was a little too dramatic, but anything helps in this case.
"I'm sorry, but Mr. Khan is unavailable for the next 20 minutes or so. If you would like to sit for a while and wait, you can. However I cannot guarantee that he will be able to meet you even after."
"Okay," I say sweetly even though anger is burning inside of me. "I'll wait. Meanwhile, could you please tell me where the restrooms are?"
Priya gives me directions, but I know this place by heart. The restrooms are in the back, and the elevators are right next to them. I step onto the elevator, while going over what I'm going to say, one last time.
I knock on the door and wait patiently. There's no response, so I knock again. This time, a bit aggressively. If I had my way, I would have slammed the door open, grabbed the man's collar, and shake some sense into him. ...But that would get me nowhere so I might as well wait.
"Come in." I hear him say.
Okay you know what Zoya? Why don't you try being nice and see where that takes you? It might work better than yelling.
"Hello Mr. Khan. My name is Zoya's Farooqui. I'm one of the many employees that you have terminated. I wanted you to know that I've done everything I could for the betterment of this company, and by letting me go, you aren't doing the right thing. I realize that you can't give everyone's job back, but for me this job is my life." I wasn't begging this man, but it was more of a request. I open my mouth to continue, when I realize that he's just sitting there.
Going by his reputation, he doesn't seem to be the type of man that would sit there and listen to me. He would have yelled or called for security by now.
And then I realize that he's staring at me...This just got a whole lot awkward.
I adjust my clothes and look around.
What a creep.
That seems to bring him back to this world. I begin to wonder if he has even heard a single word that I've said.
"Pardon me, could you please repeat that?"
My God, this guy has officially lost it.
I clench my fists, but manage to give him a sarcastic smile.
"I'm sorry. Is Your Royal Highness out of his thoughts now?"
Apparently this didn't work, because he looked like he was back in La La Land.
"Hello? Earth to Mr. Khan!" I snap my fingers in front of him.
"I'm sorry Miss, I've been busy lately, so my mind is all over the place." He finally replies while gesturing to the piles of paper on his desk.
"I've been standing here for 15 minutes talking on and on and you didn't even listen to me? Great God. Okay. I'll start from the beginning. Anyways because of you, I have so much free time."
"Excuse me?" Mr. Khan stands up. "Listen. I don't think you know who I am."
This time, I was pissed. This is what I get for trying to act sweet and nice.
I read his name off of the name plate on his desk.
"No you listen Mr. Asad Ahmed Khan. You didn't hear a word I said before, then what makes you think I'm going to listen to
you."
He looks like he's going to say something, but I quickly raise my voice and interrupt him.
"My name is Zoya's Farooqui. You've probably heard of it...or read it? Perhaps when you were deciding when to terminate all these employees that have given their all to help this company flourish? Well I was one of them. And let me tell you, I'm not going to sit around and leave my job without a fight. Do what you can. Make whatever arrangements. I am not leaving this room until
you don't give me my job back."
I cross my arms in front of my chest and wait for his answer. He looks shocked for a minute; he better get over it, because I'm not going anywhere.
I don't know, maybe all the things said about him are just rumors. Little did I know that he would set off like a bomb.
"First of all, are you some sort of celebrity that I should know your name? Are pictures of your face all over TVs? Actually, you know what? It should be. I can just imagine the headlines a girl like you would create; 'Crazy Unemployed Girl on the Loose. Keep All Your Employers At Home'. Because that's what you are. Crazy." He put his hands in the air, as if he was creating the words as he spoke them.
I gasp. I certainly wasn't expecting that.
"Excuse you! You're the one ruining people's dreams. Do you know I was this close," I elaborate with my fingers, "to getting my dream project? I had a vision that could have helped this business move past it's problems and become number one again. But you," I point at his chest. I pause momentarily because his chest is rock hard. "You only care about yourself."
"I have the perfect place for you to be." I stare at him to go on. "You belong in a mental asylum because you're I-N-S-A-N-E. Absolutely insane. "
"Oh right, because you're any better?" I deepen my voice "Hi I'm Asad Ahmed Khan and I don't give a crap about anyone except myself and my money. I don't care about anyone's feelings or emotions, as long as my money isn't affected."
I could see the arrogant man clenching his fists at my words.
"Are you getting mad now? Good. Now you'll know how I've been feeling from the time I got the phone call, letting me know that the GREAT Mr. Khan is firing me. Isn't that the best way to start your day?"
His expressions soften for a second, but then they go back to their dark selves.
"Even if I wanted to hire you, I couldn't. There are no vacant jobs. And now I want you to leave. Immediately." He roars like a lion.
"No. I'm not going anywhere and I believe I've already told you that." I sit on the sofa, tapping on the table next to me.
There's a knock on the door, which startles us both. Were we yelling that loud?
"Oh, I'm sorry to disturb you Mr. Khan, but a young woman has come in to give her interview. Should I tell her to come another day if you're busy?"
The man's words ring in my ears.
...give her interview Interview The nerve of that guy!
I arch one eyebrow and look at the billionaire.
"Oh no need for that, Mister. I've already given my interview and I'm hired for the position!"
The man at the door still looked a little confused.
"Umm okay. I'll go inform the woman waiting, and then I'll show you around when you settle in." He closed the door as he leaves.
Looks like my work here is done. The jerk in front of me is seething in anger. I want to giggle, but I know it's better if I stay serious.
"Exactly who gave you the authority to hire yourself? I didn't even see your resum. Who knows if you can complete the tasks, without screwing it up. If you don't know how to talk properly to others, then you just stay at home."
"You started this. You lied and said that there's no vacant positions, then why did this girl come to interview?"
"That is none of your concern. You will not be working for me and that's final." He growled, clenching his fists.
"No. I'm coming in on Wednesday, no matter what you say or do. Take it as a challenge Mr. Khan. I'll work for one month, unpaid, just so you can see how well I manage the tasks assign to me." I say with a smile that I know will annoy him.
Mr. Khan face palms and looks at the mess around his desk.
"I wouldn't have hired you if you were the last educated person left in the world, but it's my helplessness." He pinches the bridge of his nose again. "Fine you can work for a month, but at the end of it, I get to decide if you're staying or going. And this time if I fire you, you will never show me your face again. "
I stick my hand in front of him.
"Alright, it's a deal?"
He looks at my hand, then at me, and rolls his eyes.
"Deal." He halfheartedly shakes my hand.
I grab my stuff and am about to leave when I hear him mumble, "No one has ever spoken to me like this."
"No wonder you're so ill-mannered." I retort, a little too loudly.
Mr. Khan turns around and looks at me. I give a taunting smile and open the door. "See you Wednesday Mr. Boss."
I make my way out of the building, a huge smile on my face.
Well done Zoya!
Mission Accomplished ~Asad's POV~
God, everything is a mess! Ever since I took over this company, nothing's going my way. All these papers and contacts, and people to fire and hire...I'm getting a headache from this. I need someone who can keep all my things organized, but I can't find the perfect person. My old employees are doing what they're good at, and I don't trust my new employees as much. If they come close to my documents, they might try to get some sort of revenge on me. I pinch the bridge of my nose; I don't know how I'll manage.
While I'm sitting in my messy cabin, I hear a knock. I clearly told Priya not to let anyone disturb me for a couple of minutes. She was reliable in the other office, but I don't what's happened to everyone since I've acquired this new company.
Maybe my secretary's overworked. After all, I do have all my employees working today, on a Sunday. I usually don't do that, but we have a lot of work that needs to get done and very less time. The person on the other side of the door knocks again, breaking me out of my thoughts.
"Come in." I sit up straight and straighten my tie.
My mom's always taught me to respect women, and I always have. Anyways, my life is in my family and my job, so I have no time for this stuff. At least this is what I used to think, but this girl that just entered...I never thought I would say this, but she took my breath away.
Her big, expressive eyes. The way her bangs kept falling in front of her eyes, and she would flip them back. Oh how her lips moved gracefully as she spoke. I guess she realized that I was staring at her, because she started fixing her clothes and looking around in embarrassment.
I awkwardly look around until I can find the courage to look her in the eye.
"Pardon me, could you please repeat that?"
She smiled, dimples forming on both of her cheeks.
She's so beautiful...
"I'm sorry. Is Your Royal Highness out of his thoughts now?" Her smile fading away. The tone of her voice was now sarcastic, breaking the illusion of what kind of a girl I thought she was.
"Hello? Earth to Mr. Khan!" She snapped her fingers in front of me and I began to get distracted again.
Maybe I just heard her wrong. Anyways it's my fault that I haven't been paying attention. I clear my throat. "I'm sorry Ms, I've been busy lately, so my mind is all over the place."
I hoped I said the right things. I looked at her, and the smiling, bright eyed girl was now replaced with a fuming woman.
"I've been standing here for 15 minutes talking on and on and you didn't even listen to me? Great God. Okay. I'll start from the beginning. Anyways because of you, I have so much free time."
Who does she think she is? Just because I'm a little off today doesn't mean she can say whatever she wants to.
"Excuse me? Listen. I don't think you know who I am." I stand at her. My face now looks like its normal, emotion-less self.
She looked like she was going to destroy something.
"No you listen Mr. Asad Ahmed Khan. You didn't hear a word I said before, then what makes you think I'm going to listen to
you."
I open my mouth to rebel, but she doesn't even give me a chance.
"My name is Zoya's Farooqui. You've probably heard of it...or read it?"
Wow...a name like Zoya suits her perfectly. How could I have missed it when I was going through the list of former employees?
"Perhaps when you were deciding when to terminate all these employees that have given their all to help this company flourish? Well I was one of them. And let me tell you, I'm not going to sit around and leave my job without a fight. Do what you. Make whatever arrangements. I am not leaving this room until
you don't give me my job back."
To say I was shocked would be an understatement. This is why I ignored girls like her. They may be beautiful, but they have no manners.
What did I imagine her personality to be like, and what she turned out to be! I need to put this girl in her place.
Crazy." I knew I was exaggerating a lot, but this girl was going to make me mad.
She gasped and stepped back as if she wasn't expecting that from me. Well now she knows what the read Asad Ahmed Khan is like.
"Excuse you! You're the one ruining people's dreams. Do you know I was
this close to getting my dream project? I had a vision that could have helped this business move past it's problems and become number one again. But you," She walks towards me and points at my chest "You only care about yourself."
I look down at her finger, and push it away. At this point, I'm furious.
"I have the perfect place for you to be. You belong in a mental asylum because you're I-N-S-A-N-E. Absolutely insane. "
"Oh right, because you're any better?" She does a very bad imitation of what I guess is supposed to be me, "Hi I'm Asad Ahmed Khan and I don't give a crap about anyone except myself and my money. I don't care about anyone's feelings or emotions, as long as my money isn't affected."
I clench my fists. How dare she! She doesn't know anything about me, about my life! Who is she to make assumptions?
"Are you getting mad now? Good. Now you'll know how I've been feeling from the time I got the phone call, letting me know that the GREAT Mr. Khan is firing me. Isn't that the best way to start your day?"
I understand how hard that news must have been to take, but she has no right to barge into my office and yell at me.
"Even if I wanted to hire you, I couldn't. There are no vacant jobs." I lie to make her leave, "And now I want you to leave. Immediately."
"No. I'm not going anywhere and I believe I've already told you that." This girl is seriously testing my patience.
There's a knock on the door, which startles us both. Were we yelling that loud?
"Oh, I'm sorry to disturb you Mr. Khan, but a young woman has come in to give her interview. Should I tell her to come another day if you're busy?"
I groan. Did Prashant have to come right now? I look at Ms. Farooqui in fear. I can tell that Prashant's words are being processed in her brain.
"Oh no need for that, Mister. I've already given my interview and I'm hired for the position!" She smirks.
What.
Prashant looks at me for confirmation, but I'm just as confused as he is.
"Umm okay. I'll go inform the woman waiting, and then I'll show you around when you settle in." He closed the door as he leaves.
I pray that no one ever crosses paths with her.
"Exactly who gave you the authority to hire yourself? I didn't even see your resum. Who knows if you can complete the tasks, without screwing it up. If you don't know how to talk properly to others, then you just stay at home." I don't even feel bad about any of my words anymore.
"You started this. You lied and said that there's no vacant positions, then why did this girl come to interview?"
"That is none of your concern. You will not be working for me and that's final." I'm burning with rage.
"No. I'm coming in on Wednesday, no matter what you say or do. Take it as a challenge Mr. Khan. I'll work for one month, unpaid, just so you can see how well I manage the tasks assign to me." She says with a smile. Although it's meant to annoy me, I can't stop staring at her beautiful dimples.
Asad. Stop. This girl is extremely foolish and all you can think about is her beauty.
I try to snap myself out of it and look around my office. The papers are still scattered everywhere. Looks like I have to hire her anyway.
"I wouldn't have hired you if you were the last educated person left in the world, but it's my helplessness." I can't believe I'm saying this, "Fine you can work for a month, but at the end of it, I get to decide if you're staying or going. And this time if I fire you, you will never show me your face again. "
"Alright, it's a deal?"
I want to twist this stupid hand of hers.
"Deal." Oh, the self control needed.
I turn around, my back facing the door. "No one has ever spoken to me like this." I say, thinking that she left already. Apparently I was mistaken.
"No wonder you're so ill-mannered." She retorts, leaving me speechless for the fifth time today.
I face her, and she gives me her dimpled smile again. As she's about to leave, she says, "See you Wednesday Mr. Boss."
I run my hand over my face.
What the hell have I gotten myself into? A/N Whew that was a whooping 3291 words! I loved writing this chapter as it brought back so many memories! I hope you enjoyed reading it! For PMs please sne sne a buddy request. I'm sorry for any mistake(s). I don't like rereading my work. Thanks for reading!
PS: In Friday's episode of QH, I was so excited when Aahil said "Kissne aaj tak mujse aisay bath nahi ki" because I was already planning to add this dialogue in this chapter. And then I kept waiting for Sanam to say "Tabhi toh aap itne batameez hai" but oh well, I guess I'll just be content by adding it into my story 😆
Yay for this chapter being the 100th comment of my story!
