PART I

The Gala was absolutely stunning. The BSD's finest out in their tuxes and suits, their wives and girlfriends dressed to match their dashing counterparts- all in order to celebrate the round of promotions in the ranks at the annual BSD Black & White Gala. Although the formal promotions had been done throughout the year at various times, this one event was to celebrate together the success, effort and prosperity of all the Officers who had grown as professionals.

This year, Major Rudra Pratap Ranawat had moved up the Ranks from the youngest Major in BSD history, to the youngest Lt. Colonel.

"Has anyone seen Sir, and Bhabi?" Officer Aman asked about his respected senior.

"No, not yet- the events are going to start soon- where is he?" added another fellow officer.

"They'll arrive; they have about thirty minutes before things really get started. After all, with a toddler at home it's not always easy to get anywhere at time" senior officer Mehta- a father of two himself- commented.

Ranawat House

Parvati's excitement was clearly evident as she finished dressing for tonight's event. Smiling as always she thought of the last time her husband and herself had gone away to a party- not since Dhruv's arrival she suspected, but that was to be expected as their now 15 month old son was the center of their universe. He had his fathers eyes and stubborn personality she thought, although Rudra insisted Dhruv had her smile. The day had been long with the planning of Koyel's upcoming first birthday, and not to mention Maithili jeeja was sick, leaving Paro with a good chunk of the house hold work to do- not that she minded of course. Her home was her sanctuary, filled with love, laughter and her family. Although She had wanted to be ready by 6:30 and out of the house with Rudra by 7:00, feeding, bathing, playing and putting her son to sleep had taken longer than anticipated- actually it always did since time ceased to exist when she admired her son and put in energy to make him smile.

Alas, here she was finishing up her final look at 7:00PM, while her husband was in the shower getting ready for the big event. The thought of him there brought a blush to her cheeks, even after being married almost two years, she still flushed at the thought of him- there was something inherently so beautiful about him that she couldn't really explain to anyone. He was dark where she was fair...he was hard where she was soft...his skin was calloused and rough...and yet he was so warm and generous to her. Lost in thought as she stared at her hands she was startled at the touch of his warm wet hand on her waist. Frozen in surprise only for a moment she turned, ready to yell at him for possibly ruining her clothing with his wet skin- but her mouth went dry.

Lost in his eyes she couldn't say a word. Smiling playfully at her they spoke so much more than he did to her with words. She could see it there, brimming in his eyes: the love, possessiveness...and need. Composing herself, she put some distance between them.

"Jaldi Karo Major Saab, dare ho chukey hai" she said looking away. Her voice, she realized was a bit more quitter and husky...her ears were most likely red. Getting flushed around her husband was something she could never grow out of, even after having a child together and being in his arms each night.

Deciding he would tease his wife later, he simply kissed the soft curve of her neck, and moved to change into his party attire.

Tonight was a night that he had worked long and hard for, and although he had once thought when he'd become a Lt. Colonel, he'd take unprecedented pride in the accomplishment of moving up the ranks...it hadn't even phased him that a promotion was coming up until his superiors had given him the news last week. He did his duty, served his country but other than that there was so much happiness in his life- so much love- that he forgot about moving ahead when he was with them. His Dhruv, and his Paro. Together, the evenings were spent playing with his son- who now at 15 months showed so much of his personality through his actions: he was the best of himself and of Parvati- and more than he could have ever asked for.

BSD Black & White Gala

They made their way to their table like a couple of teenagers attending a function late. Paro embaressed and nervous, Rudra grinning has he held his wife's hand. They made a stunning couple as they walked through the plathora of tables and seated guests. Although everyone wore Black and White in the crowd, the expressions these two carried were simply theirs alone. Paro's black full neck saree with a stunning embellishment of a choker necklace left little room for any other jewelry, but as always her beloved mangalsutra from Rudra was there. Her dainty ears held small but beautiful diamond studs which Rudra had gifted to her on the birth of their son. Her simply yet elegent backless black blouse was contrasting her lovely white net saree, and looked stunning paired with her black tuxedo clad husband. Slicked backed hair and with his immaculate moustache the ex-major looked more like a cinematic heartthrob, and his beautiful wife like an angel from the heavens.

Finally making their way to the table, they sat down in time to hear the second round of Promotions. Each Member was praised individually by V.K Singh, and then they would stand up from their table and receive a warm round of applause from the guests- this was, after all just the celebration- the formal ceremonies would be done later this week. Busy gently caressing his wife's knee Rudra almost missed his name being called out until Paro glared at him and slapped his hand away.

"Now to a prime example of what hard word, determination and love for your job can do- even at a young age. It is my honor to present to you the youngest Lt. Colonel in BSD history, congratulations Rudra Pratap Ranawat on your new designation!" V.K Singh stated with pride.

A Round of applause rang throughout the ballroom, and a few whistles as Rudra stood up- courtesy of Geetangeli ma'am- and waved to the audience. Taken aback by the claps of joy Paro joined in but wasn't too sure what all the commotion was surrounding her husband- she recognized his name but wasn't too sure what else had been said in English- and that frustrated her beyond belief. So much so that embarrassment made her self-conscious all of a sudden she wasn't matching up to these worldly educated wives laughing and smiling...she felt like a small village girl and didn't like it.

Never to miss the change in his wife's expressions, Rudra gently runs his finger across her jaw, directing her face towards him.

"Kya hua Paro?" he asked her dismal face.

Unsure of how to word her concerns, she twists her delicate pallu in her hands. "Major Saab, yeh kya bol rahe tey V.K. Sirji.

He was silenced for a moment, he realized that in his effort to surprise his wife, he had completely lost sight of the fact that Sir had done his entire speech in English...Paro didn't understand the praise being bestoed on him, how stupid of him. About to explain the meaning of his promotion, he was interrupted by Geetangeli ma'am.

"Muhjhe patha tha! Ki yeh ex-Major Rudra Pratap Ranawat apne khoobsurant bewi ko batana bhool jayega! Parvati, Rudra ki tharaki huey hai. Ab usey tum Major Saab nahi, balki Lt. Colonel Saab bulaogi!" Geetangeli happily informed Paro.

Appalled by his wife's evesdropping V.K quickly reprimanded her quietly, "Geet, don't put poor Parvati and Rudra on the spot like that!" to which she quickly replied, "Oh please, I'm just making sure Paro remembers to call Rudra by his new title!" The two bickered lovingly as Rudra pulled his confused wife onto the dance floor.

The last time they had been out and about like this was literally when they had been newlyweds, since then much time had passed and with the birth of their son they hadn't gone out to many functions as they often would take them out of town and away from their little one- which Paro couldn't easily do. But tonight, was a night to get away. Maithili would take care of the tot as both Paro and Rudra would rediscover each other.
