One person sharpens another.
Jodha as it happens, is the sole reason why Maham Anga felt driven to try what she did. There was a huge amount at stake for everyone yesterday. At one point it seemed that all had been lost. Jalal was dead and even his enemies could do nothing but mourn his passing. And it all came to this, because Jalal's love and respect for Jodha represented something daringly new being forged in Hindustan and Maham Anga had no answers to counter it. This was about politics, not about love. Love can take people far but when the rubber meets the road, someone had to die in those days.
So what is Jodha going to feel now. She was a political pawn at the start, she became the linchpin of this drama, the reason why Jalal had to do what he did. She is a symbol of Jalal's commitment to being great in the eyes of many. Such a weight of responsibility cannot be borne without some moments of weakness, some acknowledgement of human frailties. That last time when Jalal spoke harsh words to her, she faltered as she grabbed hold of that tall vase to steady herself. It was the last time she would depend on him in that way. This love,bond,respect they now share has to be redefined. There is a nation taking shape and sheltering under their protection, there is a dynasty of rulers that have to come after them with all the attendant political machinations and dramas. Love is always there in all its flavours but for this story, dil maange more.
Isn't it interesting, that yesterday provoked a lot of emotions in all the characters in that drama, every possible emotion, but it was also surreal...like time had slowed down to a crawl, as if to say, the buck stops with the lead pair. Jodha Akbar. All others for a time were behind curtains, with swords to their throats. Unable to even react with any intent, unable to influence anything. Just onlookers like us viewers. They were watching Jodha Akbar too.
Okay, now if anybody was reminded of Manmohan Desai flicks where the hero's mother is being held at gunpoint by the baddies and there's a song and dance before the hero removes his disguise ... I'm with you on that too.
