Mardaani Hit or Flop ? Hype, Buzz and Box Office Predictions

Rani Mukherjee's comeback film Mardaani releases this Friday, 22nd August 2014 alongside The Expendables 3. Here is our take on the hype, buzz and box office predictions of the movie. The movie has got a very intense and relevant premise considering the present times.

Mardaani might not take a big start but it is a film which might impact people's lives more than what it can impact Bollywood trade. The movie has received an A certificate which is a first for a Yash Raj Films. The Adults only certificate might hinder the family audience percentage to some extent. The trailer was received with very good response. Bollywood hasn't seen a serious female cop on the big screen in a long long time. Mardaani has certain novelty factors attached to it which should help it sustain at the box office window provided the content is upto the mark.

We had a chat with leading distributor and exhibitor Akshaye Rathi on his expectation from the two films releasing this week - Mardaani and The Expendables 3

Q) What are expectations from Mardaani and The Expendables 3 ?

A) Mardaani has a fabulous concept attached to it. All the crimes happening against women off late have made it to headlines of every news papers and channels but no relevant steps have been taken. The film depicts these crimes in a sensitive manner rather than sensationalizing it. It is a serious film against human trafficking ( females specially) - a topic which needs serious awareness among Indian audiences especially the middle class and lower middle class people. I sincerely hope irrespective of the business it does, Mardaani can bring about some serious change as well as awareness among the Indian female audiences.

The Expendables 3 on the other hand is a no holds barred action films with all the biggest action stars of the Hollywood. With that sort of star cast, I would have even watched a remake of RGV Ki Aag (Remake !!!) twice at least. The first two films have done good business in India and I hope the third ones proves to be a bigger success than the earlier parts. The idea of having so many big action stars in a single screen and let them do what they do best is very tempting as a movie lover as well from the business point of view.
