Part 4
Picture Dekhogi?
Scene 1
Raman walked out of the bedroom, shutting the door closed behind him, and picking up a pouting Ruhi in his arms.
"Kya hua Ruhi" he asked, walking with her into her bedroom, which was still occupied by mamaji. He put her down on her bed and started to look in her wardrobe for her clothes, in readiness to change her uniform. "Itni shor kyon, beta?"
"Papa, woh Shravan keh raha tha ki woh mujhe apni choti bahein ke saath khelne nahi dega. Aur phir dadi mujhe aap ki room mein aane se rok rahi thi, aur Ishima kahan hai, aur..."
"Are, ab bas bhi karo, meri express train. Din pe din apni Ishima jaisi lecture dena seekh rahi hai"
"Raman" Ishita protested from the door. She had rearranged her sari and reapplied her makeup, but there was still an unmistakeable glow on her face. "I have Ruhi's clothes in our room. Aap ja kar chai pi lijiye, mein Ruhi ko change karti hoon. Is ko homework bhi karna hai"
"Chai?" Raman smiled wickedly. "Mujhe to jiski pyaas thi, woh mein ne pi li"
"Raman" Ishita blushed and threw a mock punch at him as he walked out the door.
"Thik hai, thik ha, mein jaata hoon. Don't forget, 6 o clock, aur Ishita, please pack some fresh clothes for me "
Scene 2
Raman spent the next two hours with his family, drinking tea and absorbing their Nok jhok. From time to time, his eyes would stray to Ishita, helping Ruhi with her homework, her love for their daughter shining through in her absolute devotion and absorption in her child. Once, she looked up, her eyes meeting his. They shared a secret sweet smile, their eyes locked and lost in each other, until Ishita blushed and bent her head to Ruhi's books once again.
Toshiji watched them with amusement , sending up silent prayers of thanks to her mata rani. She did not know why her son and daughter in law wanted to keep their new equation a secret, but she would indulge them for the moment.
At around a quarter to six, Raman excused himself to freshen up for his journey. He returned with his bag, and started to say his goodbyes.
Ishita knew it was time for her to play her part in her Husbands plans for their date night. "Aiyo" she thought with trepidation. "How hard it is to lie"
She walked up to Toshiji, clearing her throat.
"Mummyji, call aya tha clinic se.emergency hai. Mujhe jaana hai. Jaldi wapas ajaongi."
"Ishita"Raman spoke up before Toshiji could reply. "Mujhe Ruhi ke school work discuss karna hai tumse. Dekho Kitne red marks hain books mein. Come, I'll drop you at the clinic. Papaji ya Romi tumhe pick kar lenge when you finish."
"Haan, haan, puttar, bada hi right time emergency hua" Toshiji smiled indulgently at Ishita. "Tu jaa Raman ke saath." Mr Bhalla nodded his head. "Call karna puttar, mein pick kar loonga tumhe "
Saying their goodbyes to Ruhi, Raman and Ishita walked out the door, Toshiji waving them goodbye with an adoring look on her face
Scene 3
"Raman" Ishita said as he pulled the car out of the driveway." I think that Mummyji knows about us"
"Tum mujhe is tarah dekh jo rahi thi" he took a hand off the steering wheel and caressed her cheek lovingly. " Lekin mujhe to abhi apni biwi se chup chup ke pyar karna hai."
"Kahan ja rahe hai Raman?"
Raman glanced at Ishita, his voice full of enthusiasm as he laid out his plans. "You know that new cinema complex in the city. They have a luxury premier theatre where they play classics. A different movie every night. Wahin ja rahe hai hum. They are playing Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman tonight and I heard you and Mihika talking one evening about how you both loved that movie. The Movie starts at 7.30, so we are going to an Italian Restuarant first, for dinner."
"Kyon, plan achi nahi lagi" he asked anxiously when she did not respond.
Ishita caught his hand between hers, bringing it to her lips. " No, Raman, I love your plan. " Her eyes were full of sudden tears. "You are so thoughtful. Kitni lucky hoon mein"
"Woh to tum ho" he replied with a wicked grin. "Apni reward mein theatre mein le loonga". He laughed out aloud as Ishita blushed, and drove on into the night.
Scene 4
Mihika walked into the apartment complex a few minutes after Ishita and Raman had left. She met Vandita downstairs and they walked up the stairs together, hand in hand.
"Akka" Mihika began excitedly. "You'll never believe. I have three tickets for Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. It's playing tonight only. At the new cinema complex. Chalo na chalte hai. Ishu Akka ko bhi saath le kar jayenge. It was our all time faviroute movie , remember Akka?"
"Haan, haan, why not? Let's have a girls night out" Vandita said with a smile. They had reached the landing and Mihika walked into the Bhalla home.
"Auntyji, Ishu Akka hai kya?"
"Are puttar, woh toh clinic gayi hai. Emergency tha"
"Ok, mein us ko call karloongi" Mihika walked slowly to the Iyer's apartment. They would go to the clinic, she decided. If Ishu Akka had finished her surgery, she could join them. She really needed to talk to Ishu, to find out the reason behind what she had overheard last night. She could not, she would not believe anything so bad about her Akka, but then who had Akka been talking to? And those words. What did they mean?
Mihika was determined to speak to her Ishu Akka tonight. Little did she know that she was setting herself on a collision course with her equally determined Jiju and his need to spend time alone with his darling wife.
