Babruvahana or Babhruvahana is a character in the Mahabharata, a Hindu epic. He is one of the sons of Arjuna, begotten through Chitrangada, the princess of Manipura, during the period of his exile at Manipura. Babruvahana was adopted as the son of his maternal grandfather, and reigned at Manipura as his successor. He dwelt there in a palace of great splendour, surrounded with wealth and signs of power. When Arjuna went to Manipura with the horse intended for the Aswamedha, there was a quarrel between Arjuna and King Babhruvahana, and the latter killed his father with an arrow. Repenting of his deed, he determined to kill himself, but he obtained from his stepmother, the Naga princess Uloopi, a gem which restored Arjuna to life. He returned with his father to Hastinapura.[1] This was on account of a curse by the Vasus, on account of Arjuna's killing Bhishma (who is an incarnation of one of the Vasus) during the Mahbhrata war. Babruvahana also killed Karna's son Vrishaketu in the battle. Vrishaketu had accompanied Arjuna in the Ashwamedha Yagna and was consequently killed.[2]

Aravan or Iravan is the son of Arjuna and Ulupi, the Naga Princess. There are two stories of Aravan in vogue. In the Mahabharata, he dies in the Kurukshetra war. In South Indian folklore, he agrees to be sacrificed for Pandava victory in the great war in the Mahabharat. He is also the deity worshipped by the transgender or eunuchs.

In the Mahabharata war, Iravan fights on the side of the Pandavas. Iravan fights the Kauravas along with his Naga warriors. On the eight day of the war, Iravan finds Shakuni Mama killing Pandava soldiers by shooting arrows on their back.

For this trickery, the entire legion that Shakuni commanded was killed by Iravan and Naga warriors.

Duryodhana who witnessed the destruction of a large part of his army ordered Alambusa, a demon with magical power, to kill Iravan.

Alambusa flies through the air and chops off the head of an unsuspecting Iravan who was engaged in a combat with Shakuni. He was killed through trickery.

Alambusa was later killed by Ghatotkacha, son of Bhima.

Different Story in South India

Aravan story in Tamil Nadu is entirely different. Aravan agrees to do self sacrifice before Goddess Kali for the victory of the Pandavas. His only wish was to get married before the sacrifice. But no woman was ready to get married for a day.

Sri Krishna then takes the form of Mohini and marries Aravan. This single day marriage is celebrated during the Koovagam Transgender Festival at Koovagam village in Tamil Nadu. Aravan is here known as Koothandavara.

Another addition to the story is that after self sacrifice the head of Aravan watched the Mahabharata battle from a mountain near Kurukshetra. This is one reason why the head of Aravan is worshipped in many Draupadi Amman Temples in South India.

The head of Aravan watching the Mahabharata war is quite similar to the Khatu Shyam Baba story in North India especially in Rajasthan. Khatu Shyam is also known as Barbareek.

Srutakarma[edit]

Srutakarma was the son born to Arjuna and Draupadi, the youngest Upapandavas, he was born definitely after the Arjuna's return from adventures and would be very young at time of battle. His horses were supposed to bear the colour of kingfishers.[9] He fought against Dushasana and Ashwatthama in the battle but he might have been too small too fight.it is said that he was identical to arjuna, and he was killed when ashwatthama massacred the pandava tent mistakenly killing the upapandavas(sons of draupadi) mistaking them for the pandavas at night.

Abhimanyu is one of the greatest warriors of the second generation in the Mahbhrata and a legendary figure. He was the son ofArjuna and Subhadr and the nephew of Lord Krishna and was the incarnation of Varchas, the son of Soma [1]. He was the husband of the Matsya kingdom's princess, Uttar, and the father of Parkita (born after his death). Trained in the martial arts by his father Arjuna and uncle Sr Ka, he matured into a great warrior at an early age.

Abhimanyu inherited both courage and fighting ability from his father, Arjuna, and his grand-father, Lord Indra. He was considered to be an equal to his father owing his prodigious feats. Abhimanyu participated in the Mahbhrata war when he was sixteen years old. In the absence of Sr Ka and Arjuna, Abhimanyu was obliged to break through the cakravyuha, the wheel-formation of the Kaurava army. Though he fought valiantly, he was surrounded by a multitude of Kaurava warriors including Drona, Karna, Duryodhana and Dushasana. He was killed in this battle as he was ignorant of the technique of extricating himself out of that cakravyuha[2]. However, before laying down his life, he fought bravely against the greatest of the Kaurava warriors and displayed remarkable heroism deciding to make his death a costly one for the enemy.

Abhimanyu was the most illustrious of the Pandavas/Kurus of his generation. By his virtue and capability, he was deemed to be the most eligible and qualified heir to the throne of Hastinapura. Abhimanyu sacrificed himself to guard Dharma raja.

Abhimanyu's son, Parikshit is the sole heir to the Pandavas and succeeds Yudhishira to the throne. It is also for King Parikshit, that the Bhagavata is first recited.

APPARENTLY THIS GUY HAS FOUR VALIANT KIDS----BUT LOSES THREE IN THE WAR----ONE REMAINS WHO CAN KILL HIS FATHER.

HIS SONS WERE REALLY AWESOME WARRIORS.AND MAN, DID THE ARCHERY TALENT RUN IN THE BLOOD.😲👏

I wouldn't call Srutakarman a valiant warrior to be honest, he would be a mediocre warrior at best.

Though Arjuna's other son's were pretty valiant

yeah well shrutu was little---
he was kinda a baby then not more than 10-12 years, if abhimanyu was around 16.
arjun married draupadi then chitrangada(babhruvahan's mom) then uloopi(Iravan's mom) then subhadra and after returning from his exile his turn with draupadi came---so shrutu was the youngest of all the pandava next generation.😛

Not correct. Iravana was deceptively slain, but not the way described above.

Iravana was involved in a battle w/ Alambusha - no incident of Dury sending the latter. In that battle, Alambusha, being a rakshasha, resorted to Mayavi tricks. Iravana, being a Naga, had serpentine garlands that were sacred to any Naga, and Alambusha produced the illusion of eagles swooping down to attack them. Iravana got distracted and preferred to protect his snakes over his own life, since those were sacred, and Alambusha, taking advantage of this, took a sword & cut off his head.

Srutakarman was nearly the same age as Abhimanyu, he would have been 30+ years old at the time of war.

He had enough chances to prove himself, Abhimanyu was nearly the age of Srutakarman and the former did prove himself in the chakravyuha, Srutakarman was constantly beaten by Karna and Dronacharya, that too in one vs many, if Srutakarman had done a 1 O 1 with the former two, he would have been killed.

Actually Arjuna married Uloopi first then he married Chitrangada ( as I read in K.M.Ganguly's translation)
