DCH. Trendsetter for such films!
I have not watched many old films with this theme but I like Anil Kapoor's Saaheb in which his character shows most sensitivity in end compared to all elders.

I personally feel its Swades..There was a great risk in making such a movie and for a star like Shahrukh doing a movie like this..which would have never appealed to the masses..But it had a strong message and most importantly it was appreciated..That showed the change in the taste of audiences..

DCH is like one of my most fav movie ever made by BW <3 Never get tired of watching it!!

I love WUS too

RDB and Swades are very inspiring!!!...The movies have perfectly conveyed the intended message to the viewers and created a huge impact...I literally get this adrenaline rush every time I watch them,..to just stand up,raise ur hand and do something for the nation...But I love these two movies more for patriotism they have depicted than for the coming of age theme

ZNMD and Dil Chata hain were more about self-discovery rather than character development in coming of age. I'd rather call them great vacation films than coming of age.

Taare Zameen Par didn't really click with me since it was clearly stolen.

Wake Up Sid for me. I find DCH overrated. To me it is a buddy film, that dealt with a myriad of issues. Wake up Sid on the other hand focuses on one character. It truly traces one characters path from infantile immaturity to growing in responsibility and stature. It has a feel good factor that resonates with anyone who is trying to find themselves.

Next would be Queen. Read the options list, this is the solitary female oriented film. Female sexuality, female transformations, a woman's journey through relationships and to self discovery is ignored. Most filmmakers wouldn't even touch it with a ten foot pole. I think the biggest reason for Queen's success is that it touched an untouched subject. It breaks stereotypes that only a shy traditional girl is good and shows a woman grow in confidence and discover her self identity other than being a mere daughter, girlfriend or wife.

I think Khamoshi deserves a worthy mention as it traces Annie's journey to self discovery and happiness. Also Kya Kehna for dealing with the tough subject of unwed motherhood.

But none give the female star deserved attention like Juno, Precious, Little Miss Sunshine or Saved!
