Thiruvathirakali is an folk dance performed in Kerala ...

"It is a dance performed by women, in order to attain everlasting marital bliss, on Thiruvathira day in the Malayalam month of Dhanu (December- January). The dance is a celebration of marital fidelity and the female energy, for this is what brought Kamadeva (the god of love) back to life after he was reduced to ashes by the ire of Lord Siva.

The sinuous movements executed by a group of dancers around a nilavilakku, embody 'lasya' or the amorous charm and grace of the feminine. The dance follows a circular, pirouetting pattern accompanied by clapping of the hands and singing. "

There are many thiruvathirakali songs based on Mahabharat .. most of them are written in the language - Manipravalam - mixture of Sanskrit and Malayalam . Amazed at how the epic is kept alive in different ways 👏👏👏

In the video the ladies are dancing to the song based on Virat Parva ...

I have also heard about Karna Shapadham Attakadha in Kathakali😆
Thiruvathirakali is awesome But difficult to grasp the themes. I often watch it for the graceful moves and amazingly good looking women in saree.😆

Thiruvathirakali is a very graceful dance form. The richness of the attire and then smoothness of the movements are something else. Only thing better I have seen in Mohiniattam.

But then I am probably biased, being a Mallu 😃

you are welcome dear 😃 ... since the songs are not in pure malayalam , it is tough to understand .. and sometimes they just tell the story with out giving character names .
But manipravalam is such a beautiful language ... very poetic and rhythmic ...

after some research , i could make out that the following song depicts the love-story between bhima and hidimbi ...their conversations wowww 👏

yes ... I liked how MT removed all divinity and gave the ultimate humane form .. and his writing style and detailing .. it is almost like watching it in front of our eyes isnt ...

but the book is bit towards the negative side haina ... except Balandhara and Gandhari .. no one is shown in positive light in the book , i mean people are blackish grey ... and we end up hating yudishtir
