Karna by birth was born to Kunti before she was associated to Pandu. She had her other sons on the request of Pandu her husband making her other sons Pandu putra.
If Karna was born before the marriage...he was not a Pandav. Rather just a Kunti Putra. So how could the Throne be given to Karan's son as promised by Arjun.

Please correct me if I am wrong..or am I missing something.

He was, by all means, a Pandava. I thin Krishna and Karna are well versed in Vedas compared to us.

Below Krishna says that Accordind to Vedas, Karna is the son of Pandu. and also tells the type of son Karna is.

"..It is said by those conversant with the scriptures that the two kinds of sons called Kanina and Sahoda that are born of a maiden, have him for their father who weddeth the maid. Thou, O Karna, hast been born in this way. Thou art, therefore, morally the son of Pandu. Come, be a king, according to the injunction of the scriptures.."

"..It is said by those conversant with the scriptures that the two kinds of sons called Kanina and Sahoda that are born of a maiden, have him for their father who weddeth the maid.."

Wouldn't it have been easy for Karna to ridicule Krishna and say that he is not the son of Pandu, but instead he agreed.

"..Karna said, 'Without doubt, O Kesava, thou hast said these words from thy love, affection, and friendship for me, as also in consequence of thy desire of doing me good, O thou of Vrishni's race. I know all that thou hast said unto me. Morally, I am the son of Pandu, as also in consequence of the injunctions of the scriptures, as thou, O Krishna, thinkest.."

Though Karna's son from Vrushali would have been suta and hence he could not inherited the throne, but throne was of Karna.

Considering the ever going debate over who is the greatest --- Arjuna or Karna -- Even with all the laws of those times which would make Karna 'technically' a Pandava, because he wasn't one in all the ways it mattered -- Hello, Pandavas symbolise brotherhood and family love, it doesn't exactly bode well for him to be called a Pandava as regards to this overly hammed arguement.
Wasn't it Krishna who declared during Bhagwata Gita, that he was the greatest, the best among a particular group/beings/class/entities?

Pericularly, 'Among the Pandavas, I am Arjuna'

Bhagavad Gita 10.21: Amongst the twelve sons of Aditi I am Vishnu; amongst luminous objects I am the sun. Know me to be Marichi amongst the Maruts, and the moon amongst the stars in the night sky.

Bhagavad Gita 10.22: I am the Sama Veda amongst the Vedas, and Indra amongst the celestial gods. Amongst the senses I am the mind; amongst the living beings I am consciousness.

Bhagavad Gita 10.23: Amongst the Rudras know me to be Shankar; amongst the demons I am Kuber. I am Agni amongst the Vasus and Meru amongst the mountains.

Bhagavad Gita 10.24: O Arjun, amongst priests I am Brihaspati; amongst warrior chiefs I am Kartikeya; and amongst reservoirs of water know me to be the ocean.

Bhagavad Gita 10.25: I am Bhrigu amongst the great seers and the transcendental Om amongst sounds. Amongst chants know me to be the repetition of the Holy Name; amongst immovable things I am the Himalayas.

Bhagavad Gita 10.26: Amongst trees I am the banyan tree; of the celestial sages I am Narad. Amongst the Gandharvas I am Chitrath, and amongst the siddhas I am the sage Kapil.

Bhagavad Gita 10.27: Amongst horses know me to be Ucchaihshrava, begotten from the churning of the ocean of nectar. I am Airavata amongst all lordly elephants, and the king amongst humans.

Bhagavad Gita 10.28: I am the Vajra (thunderbolt) amongst weapons and Kamadhenu amongst the cows. I am Kaamdev, the god of love, amongst all causes for procreation; amongst serpents I am Vasuki.

Bhagavad Gita 10.29: Amongst the snakes I am Anant; amongst aquatic creatures I am Varun. Amongst the departed ancestors I am Aryama; amongst dispensers of law I am Yamraj, the lord of death.

Bhagavad Gita 10.30: I am Prahalad amongst the demons; amongst all that controls I am time. Know me to be the lion amongst animals, and Garud amongst the birds.

Bhagavad Gita 10.31: Amongst purifiers I am the wind, and amongst wielders of weapons I am Parshuram. Of water creatures I am the crocodile, and of flowing rivers I am the Ganges.

Bhagavad Gita 10.32: O Arjun, know me to be the beginning, middle, and end of all creation. Amongst sciences I am the science of spirituality, and in debates I am the logical conclusion.

Bhagavad Gita 10.33: I am the beginning "A" amongst all letters; I am the dual word in grammatical compounds. I am the endless Time, and amongst creators I am Brahma.

Bhagavad Gita 10.34: I am the all-devouring Death, and I am the origin of those things that are yet to be. Amongst feminine qualities I am fame, prosperity, fine speech, memory, intelligence, courage, and forgiveness.

Bhagavad Gita 10.35: Amongst the hymns in the Sama Veda know me to be the Brihatsama; amongst poetic meters I am the Gayatri. Of the twelve months of the Hindu calendar I am Margsheersh, and of seasons I am spring, which brings forth flowers.

Bhagavad Gita 10.36: I am the gambling of the cheats and the splendor of the splendid. I am the victory of the victorious, the resolve of the resolute, and the virtue of the virtuous.

Bhagavad Gita 10.37: Amongst the descendants of Vrishni, I am Krishna, and amongst the Pandavas I am Arjun. Know me to be Ved Vyas amongst the sages, and Shukracharya amongst the great thinkers.

Bhagavad Gita 10.38: I am just punishment amongst means of preventing lawlessness, and proper conduct amongst those who seek victory. Amongst secrets I am silence, and in the wise I am their wisdom.

The two statements that, 'Karna was the greatest' and 'Karna was a Pandava' contradict each other, no?Because, Lord Krishna is saying Arjuna is the greatest among the Pandavas?
