The sound of closing of zipper of the suitcase came along with opening of the door. She looked up with a smile already knowing who is at the door.
"All done."He asked as he lean inside.
"Ya! I just need a little help with carrying the bags.." She said in low voice. He quickly entered inside with a small smile approaching her. Her back stiffen immediately as the distance between them decreased. He took further steps coming quite close and leaned forward. Her eyes gaped in shock and before she could understand anything, he leaned more coming in between her and the bag lying on the bed taking a grip on its handle.
"I'll put it inside the car.." He said leaving the room with her luggage. She relaxed as the door closed behind him.
Moving her eyes in all the directions, she tried taking the picture of every corner within her eyes and inside her memory. Here she stood, inside their bedroom, after 2 successful months of their married life. Well, may be not that successful. But still they are carrying it off well. They like each other's company, agreed to be in this relationship by their own will, are slowly learning each other and most of all they respect each other. It was more than she could think of in an arranged marriage. Thinking of it 5 months back must have been absurd. She must have laughed a lot about it. Arranged Marriage was definitely not her thing until...she met this man. Well it wasn't love at first sight. Definitely not. They met at the nearest caf from his office and talked not more than 5 lines. The whole half-an-hour looked quite a forced one and someone seeing them back then could have swore his entire fortune that these two can't work this out. But destiny has it and so here she is.
She is again moved by a knock on the door and this time its one of the housekeepers. He smiled at her standing at the doorstep.
"Reyaansh Baba, aapka wait kar rahe hai.." He said. She nodded and he soon left leaving her back in privacy. She exhaled as she gripped her purse and tugged it on her shoulder. Giving their bedroom one last glance she moved out.
Standing in the hall were the awaiting in-laws. She gave her best smile, somehow realising that she is faking one. Why isn't she happy to go back to her own house?! The house she has grown up into! Quite weirdly, she wished in the back of her mind for her flight to get cancelled. Gosh! This is confusing.
Putting back her thoughts, she bend down in front of her maa and papa taking their blessings before she take a step outside. Following were his younger brothers, swayam and shivam. She gave both of them a light hug while getting a small packet from swayam who sneakily forwarded it to her. She smiled getting exactly for whom it was meant for. Oh-this-love. Never in her wildest dream had she thought that her devar and deary sister will fall in love in the midst of her wedding. She slid the packet in her purse. She continued with her meeting journey slowly passing through all the housekeeping and finally the eldest of all, dadi. Oh! Tears trickled in her eyes. She is the one who will be missed the most. May be, her subconscious spoke and she suddenly snapped to the exception of the above line, her husband Reyaansh.
Waiting for her near the car, he smiled as he found her looking at him. The muscles deep in her stomach clench as she catch that exquisite smile. A smile to die for. Her chain of thoughts broke as she felt a tug on her saree. She snapped at the source finding the dearest and smallest member of family- Daisy. She took the small four padded puppy in her hand slightly nuzzling her with her nose. She is the ultimate relaxation therapy. His favorite member in the family. Putting Daisy in dadi's hands, she again turned towards the entire population biding them a final goodbye. It was hard to believe that she is going to see them after freaking 1 month. Damn his brother for getting married. Stepping out of the house, she looked at him as he gave his best formal smile to her. Is he going to miss her as well?! The driver took a step back opening the front door for her. She looked at him in confusion only to realise that for some weird reason, he was not allowing driver to accompany them. It wasn't like they were going somewhere in private. It was just a stupid airport. Then why on Earth he want to drive when actually he loves to sit on the backseat. Keeping the thought aside, she sat as the driver closed her door and stepped back again. Quite a second later, Rey stepped inside right beside her. She looked at his face which gives nothing away but a smile that can never reach his eyes. What the hell is happening?!
She looked at the entire family through his side of glass. Being the first bahu, she was pampered more than necessary. It was only the second day of her in the house when she had taken almost all the responsibilities. Every single soul comes looping on her for everything. God knows! How they'll survive without her.
She heard the sound of engine as the A.C. of the car left cold air on her face. Pushing the gear, he pressed the accelerator and soon they moved forward leaving home behind. Their home. The car filled with killing silence and she couldn't help but remember their first meet and one question in particular that he had asked her.
"Are you okay with this marriage?! I hope you are not forced."
A single question and it felt like as if he had open up his biography in front of her. That's it. This man's simplicity and honesty gripped her and she couldn't help but think for one whole week about this wedding proposal. Whether the day she met him, or the day she said yes or just this day when he is about to see her off only to meet after one month...he didn't seem to have changed even a bit. Still quiet, simple and honest...He is one of his kind.
She cleared her throat as suddenly it felt she hadn't used it for years. Her eyes moved to him.
"Dadi ko unki medicines ke baare mein yaad dila dena..." She said and suddenly after a little pause added, "..Please."
"Ya, sure." He said with a small not getting his eyes off the road. Weird. The traffic isn't too much.
"Mom keh rahi thi ki sab log shaadi se 4-5 din pehle aa jaaye to achha hai.." She said delivering her mother's wish and her indirect plea in a soft voice.
"Mein maa se keh dunga. Don't worry, Swayam keh raha tha ki vo pehle hi aa jayega..God knows why, but he is quite excited." He rolled his eyes while she couldn't help but giggle. It will one in a million moment when the truth of swayam's excitement will come out. Her giggles stopped instantly as she felt a pair of eyes on her. Her breath caught in her throat, she wasn't able to track down the intensity his brown orbs gives away. He smiled a little slightly shifting his eyes and then getting them back on road.
"Tum Bhabhi-Devar ka chakkar mein kabhi nahi samajh paonga.." He chuckled making her lose back her giggles again. The environment lighten up on its own.
"Um.." Her giggles stopped as she found him trying to say something. She looked at him waiting for his words. "...Vaha kaam bahot zyada hoga..tum 1 month pehle hi jaa rahi ho..please dhyan rakhna.." Her lips lifted in a smile automatically as her stomach did somersaults. He has always been concerned about her but its rare when he say it through words. "Don't be careless with your health, taani." She nodded with a smile trying to calm down the butterflies. Silence again took over.
"Taani.." He slowly called her breaking the silence once again.
"Ya!" She quickly snapped.
"Vo.." He trailed off finding it extremely hard to mouth the words.
"Kya?!"
"Vo..tumne apna..laptop rakha hai na?!" She felt a little weird on his question.
"Um..ya! Why are you asking like this?!" Confusion quite evident on her face, she still her gaze on him.
"Vo..maa keh rahi thi ki..unhe tumse roz baat karni hogi..so..."
"Maa ko mujhse?! Par maa ne to mujhe kaha ki vo mujhe roz phone karegi..Unhone video calling ke baare mein to kuch nahi kaha?!"
"Vo..Vo bhool gayi hogi. She told me! That's why I am telling you." He said exhaling a deep breath leaving her in a confused state. Using the entire space in her brain she started analysing what he said and it took her no less than 10 minutes to finally realise the actual point. A slight blush adored her cheeks immediately as she realised the truth. The man with a few words and that too indirect. What am I going to do with you?
Smiling on her own thoughts, she suddenly felt a push as the car stopped. Her eyes moved to the front view through the glass of the car only to find a huge board declaring the entrance of the airport. She looked at him finding him pale and impassive like someone has drawn the entire blood from his body. Opening his door, he stepped outside leaving her alone in the car. The journey to the airport suddenly looked so small.
"Alright then! I hope you can manage from here, taani." Rey said trying his best to stay normal.
"Ya!... Thanks!" She gave a small smile as she turned with her bags. His heart missed a beat. She suddenly turned again.
"Tell everyone that I'll miss them.." He smiled while pouring her words in his mind. Everyone but not me?!
She turned again and he found his heart missing another beat. He just need to say it before she leave.
"Taani.." He called and she turned back almost immediately. She had just taken two steps forward. Decreasing the distance once again, he stepped in front of her.
"Um..voh..give my wishes to everyone.." He mentally smacked his head. Why is it so hard to say?!
She nodded with a smile again ready to move away. Her heart flinched. They haven't even bid each other a proper goodbye. This is it. She can't handle this more. She turned again finding him looming over some unknown thoughts oblivious that she had turned back. He look quite upset and instantly her subconscious spoke, Could I be the reason?!
"Rey.." She slowly called him making him jerk his head back to her. It was only then she noticed a sudden despair in his glittering tears. Is he crying?!
"I'll miss you.." She said her voice low and feeble and suddenly the despair got knocked out with an unbeatable shine and for the first time in the entire day his smile reached his eyes.
"I'll miss you too..." He said holding back the tears she had already seen very well. She uplifted a little balancing herself on the toes as she reached his face. He remain still observing her action as she brought her face close to his and before he could realise, her trembling lips touched his stubble giving a quick small peck. She swiftly came down again facing his widened shocked eyes. She felt her cheeks turning red. "See you soon.." She said before running off towards the entrance leaving him dazed and shocked to zenith. His hand reached his stubble feeling the slight wetness that still remained. The wetness of her lips. The best feeling in the world so far. He smiled not knowing whether to laugh or cry on his fate. Whether to celebrate the first kiss his wife had given to him or to curse his brother-in-law for getting married as it indirectly took her away from him. Damn! How the hell is this one month going to pass.
