Hello Everyone! Today I watched and read teh June 20th update (IND) and I just didn't like one little part of the beginning...the mosque part. They show Bani in the mosque (though she isn't a muslim) and this is still a sweet thing. But the part that was unlikeable for me was how they showed her in a mosque, and in teh background they were playing music. 😕 That is , I feel a disgrace of our religion. I feel really bad about that because in our religion, we keep both things aside. Its not that oh, if you listen to music then you're not religious, or if you're religious you don't listen to music. Nowadays, who can control all of that? Anyways, to the point..I really disliked how tehy had Aayats (Quranic verses) on the walls and showing them too and then music playing too. I know no one in this forum can actually do anything about it since the video's already done...but I just wanted to send my message out. Those who wish to support me please do so. Thanks.

Hi Angel,

As far as I know, music is not encouraged in Islam, but its not banned either. And they did not show music playing in the mosque, but as a background to create mood. I have seen other documentaries where they show all those creative arts in different mosques around the world with some peaceful kind of music in the background. And we all know Islam is an open and modern religion, so in my point of view we should be bit more open to this type of things. 😊 Just my point of view only. Not to offend anyone's feelings my friends.

Folks,

Just to let you know, that Balaji folks are impartial in their disrespect to all religions, they have shown AD and JW wearing shoes in the temples many times...so at least they are secular in that respect. 😕 😕

Most of the editors / directors don't go purposefully trying to hurt their audience but they should carefully review such things that might hurt the sentiments of people.

First of all, that was the Blue Mosque if I'm not mistaken and it's a big attraction for tourists. Tourists from all over the world go there (and into the mosque, as far as they are allowed like they showed in the video). If you are shocked by Prachi and Ram in the mosque, you'd probably have a heart attack if you ever visit the place and see all the Western ppl in there wearing western attire. 😆

In any case, non-Muslims being allowed into the mosque (esp one with such important historical/cultural significance) isn't bad, after all there is no harm in being open and friendly toward other cultures. Let ppl go and see the beautiful nature of the religion/culture, rather than isolating Muslims from the rest of the world thus creating suspicion and negative ideas in non-Muslims' minds about Islam. 😃

Second, this weird notion about music is unfounded in the Quran. In fact, it is a relatively recent phenomenon (past 2-3 centuries mostly). Muslims of the past, esp in Turkey and Persia, used to practise various art forms including both music and painting. It might be disturbing to you now because of the way the religion has been turned inside out in the past few centuries but this is the truth. In the past, Muslims had no problem with music at all. And there is no reason to have any problem with music, there's nothing wrong with it.

This is why you will see remnants of the old golden era of Islam in places like Turkey and Iran. It's actually quite shocking for Muslims from the subcontinent and Arabian peninsula.

Third, they didn't actually play the music in the mosque, they edited that in during post-production (long after the scenes were shot). Background score is essential in tv shows and movies. It is a vital component of this medium. The whole montage actually serves as a cute little promotional piece about Istanbul's cultural heritage, in this case the Blue Mosque in particular.

Fourth, the "Arabic writings" you saw is actually calligraphy, one of the most revered Islamic art forms in Muslim history. Calligraphy of Quranic verses on the walls is extremely common in middle-eastern mosques. There is nothing shocking about this either.

If you are concerned about the "Arabic writing" shown on a green background behind Bani (with Jai sometimes in view in the background) then you needn't worry; that was a board with probably the name of the particular entrance/gate through which Bani entered the mosque if I'm not mistaken. That's the way in which the gates in the big, important mosques are labelled in the middle east. It was either that or something about the mosque itself (name maybe) or something from the Quran again. I could not really see the writing clearly but it was clearly part of the mosque itself and looked like a typical board on which you'd find the name of the gate/mosque/sultan, etc. All of these are pretty common in their culture.

Finally, this is an episode of a serial. It is fiction and in fiction the writers can take creative liberties. There is absolutely no need for you to get worked up over this. There are more important things in life to worry about than this and there is no reason to start declaring such things as "a disgrace to the religion". That is extremism, something that is not suppored by Islam. 😊
