Most big budget Hindi films are dubbed in Tamil and Telugu to cater South Indian market but despite Bangla being India's second most spoken language after Hindi they don't dub films to release it in West Bengal, Tripura and parts of Assam. They release original Hindi films there. In Bangladesh Hindi films are not allowed because its 'Hindi' film but if dubbed in Bangla its allowed. We recently saw a Bangla dubbed Hindi film, 'Children of War'.
Recently Gunday was dubbed in Bangla to release in West Bengal but there was mass protest from Kolkata based Bangla film industry against dubbing Hindi films in Bangla. They couldn't even release Bangla version Gunday in Kolkata. I don't get what's wrong in dubbing Hindi films in Bangla. Does South film industry protest if any Hindi film is dubbed in Tamil, Telugu language? Then why Bangla film industry protests against it?
