Mirror (July 21) was the first to inform you that Salman Khan's Eid release has stiff competition from Riteish Deshmukh's film Lai Bhaari in single screen theatres.
Chief of the MNS Film Wing, Ameya Khopkar, who has co-produced the Marathi film with Riteish's wife Genelia D'Souza, had told us, "We will not withdraw from the screens where our film is doing very well. In the theatres where business is okay, we may give them a show or two."
However, a group of exhibitors tried to play peacemaker and met the MNS, late Monday evening. The meeting was inconclusive and continued on Tuesday. But despite negotiations, Sajid Nadiadwala, who makes his directorial debut with Kick, will get lesser single screens in Maharashtra than what he had asked for.
Leading distributor Ramesh Sippy says, "The matter has finally been settled. Lai Bhaari in its fourth week will get one or two shows at single screens in the main cities. Single screens in smaller centres will screen the film in all shows."
A source from the unit of Kick says, "The impact of the decision is more psychological than financial. It shouldn't make a big dent in our collections as the reduced number of screens is restricted to Maharashtra. Else, it's Kick all the way. And even here, the multiplexes have no problems in accommodating our film. They can always increase the number of shows."
