hey great topic anushuman .... was actually just thinking about this yesterday 😕 😆

i prefer watching movies at home (when aired on tv or by renting a dvd):

1) cost-effective and fewer hassles - standing in line to get tickets (or the fear of your credit card number being misused if ordering online) 😕; standing in line to get extremely over-priced snacks😡

2) freedom to rewind/forward/pause/stop - especially if you need to take a bathroom break 😆 .... hollywood moives don't have intervals 😆

3) ability to censor the movie - what i mean is that sometimes you get stuck with family sitting through scenes that you don't want to be watching with them (for example, the one and only english movie my entire family has ever watched in a theatre was titanic ..... towards the second half of the movie i became very thankful my dad was sitting in another row .... sorry but whenever i watch the movie at home ..... i can forward through those scenes - side note: i only have it cause my dad bought it for me cause i used to be totally fascinated with the titanic 😆 - still am 😆)

4) comfort (i'm always self-conscious during a movie in a threatre that i'm disturbing everyone if i'm shifting in my seat or slurping my drink - by accident of course 😆), and less distractions (😆 .... same reasons as "comfort" but when someone else is doing them 😆)

plus, with increasing tv sizes and better sound equipment .... you can re-create the theatre atmosphere without the negative points

depends on the movie and also depends on whether the person is single, just dating, involved, married or married with kids!
Quite frankly, to me, quiet time together is what matters way more than stink of popcorn. with advanced technology, it is easy to get all the threatre effects even better than theatre in the comfort of home, sipping choice of drinks. I love to unwind and enjoy a movie at home.

Movies such as star wars (that one waited to release) are a great experience at the theatre- especially opening weekend :) won't wait for their DVD.
Hindi movie- refuse to spend more than a buck fifty seriously!

Yey Tasha! I concur @ the rewind and fast forward and pause features! 😆

If the theatre hall supplies good popcorn and wafers, then theatre hall, else at home 😉

I used to watch the ones with good reviews only in the theatre and rest the Govinda types on TV. But now with time constraint and other responsibilities I catch all on Home theatre and it takes me at least a week to finish a movie. When I visit India I make it a point to watch at least one film in the theatre.

Great topic Anshu...

I love to watch movies in theatres... but only select ones...
The theatre experience has been so nice for me in different stages of my life

As a kid we were in this small town and my dad used to take us to movies every week...the manager of the hall used to keep 4 seats blocked for us every week...the excitement of walking into the dark theatre with the gate keeper showing you your seats by torchlight...the typical smell of cigarette smoke, and moongphali...the hard sometimes broken chairs..., the life bouy ad "tandurusti ki raksha karta hai..." and the newsreel before the film started ....in the interval we always got a treat of "Bun samosa"...the taste of that sweet and sour chutney smeared on the spicy samosa crushed between 2 thin buns....it still makes my mouth water..

And finally the surge of patriotism at the end when they played the national anthem
Anyone who has ever stayed in a small town can relate to this I think

when I was in Delhi...sometimes hubby and me would drive to Chanakya without any prior planning and then hunt for guys selling tickets in black... it was great fun and some fear to...when money quietly exchanged hands and we finally managed to get the coveted tickets

And we were there when the first multiplex- PVR opened...and suddenly tickets became slightly easier to buy...walking on the plush carpets and having the cushioned seats with cup holders was quite something!

And here in Abu Dhabi...u can just walk in 5 minutes before the first day first show and get the best tickets...such a luxury...and popcorns and cokes have to be bought for the kids of course...and I can see the same excitement in their eyes that I used to experience in the dark run down theatre of the small town years ago!
