Just wondering about names of characters and their probable significance in story.

RAJNATH - the name means "aristocratic", "ruler". That is exactly what Rajnath Goenka is. Ruler of business world, unofficial ruler of Kolkata with dignatories and gundas all in his pocket. He rules at home also without making anyone realise it! He has regal airs, lives like a medieval king exercising power in any way he wants, keeping a concubine along with wife.

SAKSHI - the name means "witness" or god witness. Sakshi is true to her name! She is witness to dirty secrets of Rajnath. Witness to crimes and blunders of Shaurya. With her keen eye and observation, the way she sits in central location at home like lobby or drawing room pr travels about the city, she notices every single thing. Nothing escapes her eye whether it is daughter at a cafe or anyone who enters or leaves her house.

RAIMA - some sites say it means "pleasing". Raima is just that. Pleasure giver to Rajnath. And a pleasing confidante, friendly arm candy to Sakshi at parties.

SHAURYA - it is supposed to mean "bravery", "prowess", "valour", "fame for bravery" etc. Shaurya Goenka is example of someone who lives up negatively to his name. He is reckless. He does take risks but for all the wrong reasons and in all wrong ways. He has prowess but only in bed. He is not famous but notorious. Shaurya is an insult to the qualities his name is supposed to exemplify.

SUCHITRA - roughly it means "beautiful" or "beautiful picture". Suchitra is like that. Beautiful in character. Picture perfect qualities.

ARNAB - Read it means "ocean" or " sea". Arnab Goenka is as deep and mysterious as the sea. We have only been shown surface with mentions of his being a kind man, good businessman and now dead. We are yet to know the extent and identity of this man.

DAYAL - Means "benevolent", kind. That is exactly what Dayal Thakur is as he gave medical treatment to Nitya and Payal, gave them his name and shelter. Made them his family. And does everything to help and give affection to these girls.

DEV - a word used for God or gods. Dev is cool, calm, placid, good, helpful and takes his time to act living upto his name in certain ways. He is faultless except for being bullied by family.

NITYA/DURGA - Names of Goddess Durga meaning "eternal", "invincible", "inaccessible". She is loving daughter, sister but can take on fierce avatar to fight evil. She is indeed inaccessible and invincible. Enemies or friends, no one can defeat her or get access to her unless she allows. Out there to destroy all evil.

Notice how sisters of both are named after ornaments - PAYAL and KANGANA. They are important but ornamental to the narrative. Both are "used" by others.

PAYAL - anklet. She was trampled and thrown to feet by Goenkas. But anklets make noise. This payal will become "baidee" for Goenkas soon.

KANGANA - bangle/bracelet/kada. Often packed off to jewellery box.😆 But she can be used by others to become a hathkadi for Goenkas who will realise what it feels like when daughter is exploited.

You missed Karan :
According to mahabarath, karana faithful to duryodna (shaurya) in his wrong deeds...

I don't know whether I am comparing with the right person.

Akash :If I am not wrong it means sky right, it belongs to everyone... Here Akash works for both Durga And Goenkas...😆

Shekhar:

It means crest, peak ...

Shekhar was in peak while irritating with his acting 🤣

Mona
I did mention Raima.

I felt like mentioning Karan but left it because Karna of Mahabharat was atleast brave and had some qualities unlike this one who is a total loser. And MB Karna had reasons why he supported wrong party unlike this one.

AKASH means Sky. And I make out that Sky is actually in control of God (Durga here!) But others look to it to judge weather, day or night just as Goenkas look to him to gauge situations. He shows them something which could actually be something else because sky is same, only at one place there is night and at other there is day.

I did miss Akash in previous post.

Seems like the makers named the character according to their nature. Superb research atominis.

hey... Nitya also means Dance. Though Dayal also mentioned that it's God's name. But I think Nitya and Payal's name were chosen to match them. One is dance and another is anklet.

I totally like this post. Not that I don't like any of the others. This one is unusual.

You missed Rishi, who is nothing like his name really. Apart from maybe he will turn a new leaf later when he sees the deviant ways of his friend failing him and he helps the other side.

I think Dayal and Arnab have one thing in common, even though we know little of Arnab's character. These two men are aristrocratic and willing to give their name and values to children of another. With Dayal it's for Durga and Payal. With Arnab it's for Gautam. Only difference being Dayal saved Durga from the roadside and chose to make her a part of his family therein. 😳

Thanks.😊

Good comparison with Arnab and Dayal.

Arnab means ocean and ocean supports many life forms. And Arnab supported an orphan by sponsoring his education and upbringing. Plus running schools and charitable trusts.
