Though ACP Pradyuman (Shivaji Satam) and his team have been diligently (and quietly) cracking the toughest crime cases for the last eight years, they suddenly find themselves in the spotlight.

Several small screen actors have evinced a keen interest to be part of Satam's team. This sudden recognition for the Sony shows CID and CID — Special Bureau comes in the wake of the latter show turning weekly last month.

Anything for it

Shweta Kawaatra
as forensics expert,
Dr Niyati
Sachin Sharma who has joined the Special Bureau bandwagon as sub-inspector Samar quit his role as Krishna of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii (Star Plus) for the crime series.

He will also soon be dead as Vansh in K Street Pali Hill (Star Plus) so that he can devote more time to CID.

Manasi Varma, Monalika of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Aliya of Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai (Sony), has given up both these Balaji shows and now only has CID.

Recently Shweta Kawaatra who was missing from the soap circuit after making an exit from Kahaani and Kkusum (Sony) chose to return to CID as the forensic expert Dr Niyati.

The latest to be part of the crime drama is Sai Deodhar who joins as Inspector Priyanka post Saara Akash (Star Plus).

Hat ke formula

Manasi Varma as undercover cop Tejali
Producer-director B P Singh is elated with the response, albeit a tad late in the day.

"If this is happening, I am truly delighted. Going daily has helped Special Bureau immensely. It's not easy to shoot CID, even one episode takes a lot of time."

Singh attributes the drama's success to being different from what is dished out regularly as well as for an actor to do something different.

"I am not just saying that it is different, it really is," points out Singh, a pioneer of crime, thriller and supernatural shows on television, like Aahat (Sony) and Raat Hone Ko Hai (SaharaOne).

New plans

Singh also points out that plans are underway to turn CID into an hourly show, as well as have another supernatural show on Sony post Aahat 2.

CID in Uzbekistan, London

Producer B P Singh
A particularly sticky case will lead ACP Pradyuman and his crack force to some exotic locales in Uzbeksitan and later in London.

"Plans are underway to shoot a series of episodes in both places," confirms B P Singh, who will leave for Uzbeksitan shortly to scout for locations.

Earlier in the year, a couple of episodes of CID were shot in the Mehrana Fort and the Jaisalmer desert in Rajasthan.

Singh is also exploring the possibility of shooting CID in the backwaters of Kerala, with some high-action speedboat sequences.

Last year, CID made it to the record books by having a single-shot episode filmed in Lonavla
