Chapter 22: Please forgive me!

Krsna was devastated.

His eyes filled with tears once more and he rushed off in the opposite direction, towards a Kuteera (cottage) which he and his friends had long ago built.

He immersed himself in sorrow.

"Radha has seen my sports with the other Gopikas and has angrily stormed away! I have lost her faith! She is very angry! What should I do? Hari! Hari!

This was obvious, Krsna! Obviously, if you would just leave her like that, she was bound to get angry!

Now what will I do without my Radharani! These jewels, these beautiful clothes, this whole life is useless without Radha! And you have gone and angered my Radha! Bad Krsna!"

And his eyes welling up with tears, he put his hand on his head and thought about her.

"Look at her beautiful lotus face, red with anger! Its like her eyebrows are bumblebees hovering around her lotus face! How beautiful! She is right in my heart! I can easily appease her! Why should I be so sorrowful, I can make her happy right here!"

And as soon as he thought this, the image of Radha vanished from his mind.

"Radha! Don't go from my! Please don't be angry with me! You must be really angered by my behavior! Otherwise why would you leave my heart and vanish! Radhe! Please come back! Why aren't you running and embracing me?! Why are you disappearing? Please Radha! Please forgive me! I shall never ever commit such an offence! Please, my beloved, do not torment me like this! Please forgive me!"

And with the moon shining as it set in the horizon, Krsna broke down.

Radha was too shocked to move.

She had just burst out on Krsna and told him to get lost. Get lost!

What was she to make of this sudden outburst?

She saw Vrinda coming towards her. She opened her mouth, but Vrinda raised her finger. "Just listen to me first." she said.

"What came over you, Radha? Just a few moments before you were pining for Krsna, and when Krsna came, you vented out all your anger and told him to go? Why? What could give you more happiness than that? You know, it is because of your self-respect that you behaved thus! Oh Radhe! Oh Manini! Please don't be angry with Krsna!

You have such a beautiful form, with apt features! Krsna himself gets charmed by you! I am repeatedly telling you, don't leave Krsna thus!"

Radha resumed crying.

"Now why are you crying? The gods must be laughing at you from above!"

"I - I have ensured that this pastime of ours is hidden from the gods, Vrinda... And why am I crying? I chased away Krsna, Vrinda! I chased him away!"

"So you are already imagining that lotus eyed Krsna waiting for you in a bed of lotuses! My dear sakhi, then why this anger? Listen to me! Hari will surely be with you and make you happy! He will not desert you again! Please do not be angry with him Radha! Let your devotees in the future delight in your love for Krsna! Do not be angry with him!"

"No." Radha replied, wiping her tears. "He kept a test for me. Now I shall keep a test for him. Let me see how he fares in Radha's test of love."

Vrinda's eyes widened, half with amazement and half with anxiety. What would happen now?
