latest transfer news

Chelsea have completed the capture of Bolton defender Tal Ben Haim on a free transfer. Ben Haim has put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal with Jose Mourinho's men after passing a medical at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.

The Israel international saw out his contract with The Trotters and has now finally completed a long-awaited move to The Blues.

Ajax starlet Ryan Babel has conceded it would be 'a dream' to play under Arsene Wenger at Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are understood to be taking a keen interest in the Ajax player who is currently starring for Holland in the European Under 21 Championship.

Manchester City have confirmed the sale of Joey Barton to Newcastle United in a 5.8million deal.

The midfielder agreed personal terms with The Magpies and passed a medical on Tyneside on 5th June, but a dispute over a 300,000 pay-out had delayed his move to the North East.

Fabio Quagliarella's agent has claimed that the Sampdoria striker could join Manchester United before the start of the new season. Silvio Pagliari maintains Sir Alex Ferguson made a 10million bid for his client recently and, if the offer still stands, then the Italian international could be on his way to Old Trafford.

Quagliarella has become one of the most in-demand strikers in Serie A since his move to Samp last summer, and the 23-year-old announced his potential to a wider audience with two stunning goals in Italy's recent Euro 2008 qualifier against Lithuania.

Wigan Athletic have confirmed the signing of former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot. The Dutchman has joined the Latics on a free transfer after rejecting a new contract at French side Rennes.

Melchiot only linked up with Rennes 12 months ago from Birmingham City, but has opted for a quick return to the Premier League.

latest transfer round up:

Jose Mourinho has revealed his interest in signing Benni McCarthy from Blackburn. The South African ace is well known to Mourinho, as they were together at Porto.

Chelsea were strongly linked with McCarthy before he eventually sealed a long-awaited move to the Premier League by joining Blackburn last summer.

Milan winger Massimo Donati is 'very interested' in joining Celtic and is due to hold talks with the SPL champions this week.

Donati is looking to leave the UEFA Champions League winners over the summer after struggling to make an impact in Carlo Ancelotti's plans.

He has been linked with a 3million switch to Celtic and Donati's agent Andrea D'Amico confirmed the player is keen on a move to Parkhead.

Paris Saint Germain have not given up on trying to sign Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele. The France international recently admitted that he was unsure if he would still be with Chelsea next season.

He has been linked with several clubs, including Portsmouth, Villarreal and Olympiakos, and has also conceded he is open to a move to Major League Soccer.

Chelsea youngster Slobodan Rajkovic is expecting to join PSV Eindhoven next season.

The teenage Serbian was a 3.5million signing for Chelsea a couple of years ago, but has been back on loan at former club OFK Belgrade.

Real Madrid have been in contact about West Ham United striker Carlos Tevez, according to the Argentine's agent. Tevez's future at Upton Park remains unclear following the row which landed The Hammers with a 5.5million fine and saw Sheffield United contest the punishment. During the closing weeks of the season, Tevez was instrumental in keeping West Ham in the Premier League, but has yet to commit his future to the club. He recently admitted it was 'time to join a big club', with Serie A champions Internazionale declaring an interest.

Newly-crowned Spanish champions Real have also been strongly linked with a 30million bid for the former Corinthians star.

Adriano Galliani insists Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o is Milan's prime summer transfer target. Last week, Milan supremo Silvio Berlusconi revealed he would prefer to see Andrei Shevchenko return to the San Siro ahead of Eto'o.

But vice-president Galliani has revealed the European champions remain committed to signing Eto'o, if Barcelona are willing to sell.

Jose Antonio Reyes hopes his Liga-winning cameo will convince Real Madrid to sign him on a permanent deal from Arsenal.

The Spanish international came off the bench to score twice on Sunday as Real beat Barcelona to the title, but the brace could have been his last act in the famous white shirt.

Miguel's agent claims the Valencia defender has received offers from some English clubs. The Portuguese international has been continually linked with a move to England after impressing for club and country for the last few seasons.

Chelsea and Arsenal are both believed to be leading the chase for the highly-rated full-back.

Monaco striker Jan Koller has dismissed speculation that he could join Reading. Reports over the weekend claimed that Steve Coppell was considering a move for the veteran Czech Republic international.

But Koller, who has spent just 12 months with Monaco, was quick to rule out the possibility of a move to the Premier League.

Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Osasuna star Raul Garcia.

The energetic midfielder has signed a five-year deal at Vicente Calderon and joins the Intertoto Cup competitors for a fee of €13million (8.8million).

Ajax winger Tom de Mul has confirmed he is on Sevilla's list of potential summer signings. De Mul has just 12 months remaining on his Ajax contract and is reportedly reluctant to extend his stay at the Amsterdam ArenA. He is currently on international duty with Belgium at the European Under 21 Championship, but has been discussing his future.

The 21-year-old admitted Sevilla had been in touch regarding a €4million (2.7million) transfer and he is keen to move to La Liga.

Feyenoord are determined not to sell Premier League target Royston Drenthe over the summer.

The youngster has impressed during Holland's run to the semi-finals of the European Under 21 Championship.

Marseille and Liverpool are close to agreeing a new loan deal for Djibril Cisse, according to L'Equipe. The France international striker spent last season at the Stade Velodrome and is happy to remain for a further season after l'OM qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

Bolton and Benfica have also been linked with a bid for Cisse, but it appears Marseille are set to reach an accord with The Reds.

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has confirmed Christoph Metzelder will move to the Bernabeu, and that the German international could soon be followed by three more signings.

Real are wasting little time in adding to their squad after securing the Spanish title on Sunday, and have now confirmed the imminent arrival of Metzelder on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund.

Franz Beckenbauer is hoping Bayern Munich can agree a deal to sign Miroslav Klose from Werder Bremen this summer. The striker has already confirmed that he will be joining Bayern in 2008 when his contract at Bremen expires.

But Bayern are trying to persuade their Bundesliga rivals to sell Klose before the start of next season, with a bid of €10million (6.7million) reportedly having been lodged.

Arsenal are reported to be very keen on Auxerre full-back Bakary Sagna. France Football claims Arsene Wenger has already held talks with the 24-year-old as well as Auxerre vice-chairman Gerard Bourgoin. Sagna is looking to leave Auxerre for a fresh challenge and has set his sights on winning a switch to England ahead of next season.

Auxerre, though, are wanting to keep the highly-rated defender and have slapped on a €10million (6.75m) price tag.

Milan have beaten rivals Internazionale to the signing of Cagliari striker David Suazo. The Honduran international has plumped for Milan after they made a late move for his services.

Inter were reported to have agreed a deal to sign the 27-year-old, but it appears city rivals Milan have pipped them to Suazo's signature.

Auxerre have revealed that star defender Younes Kaboul is closing in on a move to Tottenham Hotspur. The France Under 21 captain has been a long-term transfer target for Martin Jol and sporting director Damien Comolli, and weeks of negotiations now appear to be bearing fruit.

Auxerre vice-chairman Gerard Bourgoin has admitted that the highly-rated youngster is close to signing a contract with the Premier League side, in a deal worth a reported 8.2million.

Middlesbrough have sealed the signing of Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere, skysports.com understands. The French forward has returned from his summer break and penned a three-year deal at The Riverside, with an option to extend.

Aliadiere has undergone and passed all his medical tests and has signed for three years, and becomes the first player to put pen-to-paper for Boro boss Gareth Southgate this pre-season.

Former Bolton ace Henrik Pedersen is still hoping to stay in England. The 32-year-old Danish international has left Bolton after his contract expired.

Pedersen is now looking to secure a new employer on these shores in the coming weeks.

Portuguese starlet Miguel Veloso admits he would like to follow compatriots Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani to England. The Sporting Lisbon star, who is at home in both central defence and midfield, is one of the few Portugal players to show some form in their current European Under-21 Championship.

Arsenal chief Arsene Wenger is said to be monitoring Veloso very closely, with Manchester United also thought to be well aware of the talented 21-year-old.

Sampdoria striker Fabio Quagliarella would be interested in a move to Manchester United this summer. United reportedly made a 10million bid last month for the Italy international and Quagliarella has now revealed the Premier League champions have increased that amount. "It seems a serious offer, they have raised it and it is an important figure," Quagliarella told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Manchester United are a big deal and if it ended up going that way, I would gladly join the Premier League.
