'Cheeni Kum' a big hit overseas, more box office news

By Raj Kumar, AllBollywood.com Staff

Cheeni Kum (62%) has become a surprise hit in India and an even bigger hit overseas. In the overseas, it has done far better than Shoot Out At Lokhandwala (53%), despite the latter having a huge starcast.

In the U.K., Cheeni Kum has managed to stay in the top 10 for two consecutive weeks. In it's opening week, it was at #7, while it dropped to #10 the following week. Meanwhile, Shoot Out At Lokhandwala was unable to make the top 10 even in its opening week.

Domestically, Shoot Out At Lokhandwala has done very well and has already been declared a hit. Cheeni Kum has done well for itself, and is an above average hit.

Meanwhile Fool N Final (30%) opened well, however suffered a steep drop after it's opening weekend. It is still expected to recover it's cost.

As for the recent releases of mp3 (51%), The Train (36%) and Swami (47%), all 3 have opened poorly with only mp3 having a change to recover it's cost. For the latest box office top 5, click here.

Finally, for you single desis in the U.S., IndianDating.com is presenting their biggest desi singles event of the year, the Desi Singles Sunset Cruise this June in Washington D.C. This event sold out quickly last year, so make sure to get your tickets soon. For details on the event, click here.

The movie was really good. I would give it an overall rating of 3.5 stars. Big B was great in most scenes except the scenes where he exudes too much anger and sarcasm. He strikes you more as Amitabh bachchan of yesteryears, Don, Silsila and MKS days. I don't think that in London you can be so rude and sarcastic with staff and get away with it. There can be heavy law suits. I guess teh director ignored these finer points. Amitabh should have been portrayed more in a lighter vein, and a more suave Londoner, rather than a distinct Indian businessman, straight out of India.

I felt Tabu's character portrayal was immaculate and Tabu excelled herself in every shot. In parts she was better than Big B, but in parts Big B was just Big B which is outstanding 👏 👏 .

The scened with the little girl child bit could have been cut down. She came across more as a 75 year old grannie than a little child. To satrt off with it was humorous but later on got a bit repetitive and painful to watch.

Paresh was wasted. Zohra Sehgal was too good. 👏 . So yes one more feather on Big and Tabu's cap..
