In one post I found, Karna's Kavach Kundal was not a Daan but a trade. Yes Arjun couldn't have killed him with his Kavach ON but could he kill Arjun either !!! Arjun had counter of all his weapons. So he actually traded his Kavach Kundal with Shakti Astra, so that he could kill Arjuna .. the one and sole motive of his life ... I liked this explanation

Chiraan believes Bhima a Lord, his claims are not at all based on KMG.

Arjuna retreated due to Karna's Bhargavstra and he admitted that he cannot counter this weapon of Karna.

Had Arjuna had a counter weapon for Nagastra, Krishna wouldnt have bothered to press the chariot down, Krishna only helped Arjuna when he knew the latter is in danger.

These are not Mabharata facts, these are Chiraan's facts.

had it been only kavach kundal's presence to save karna's life arjun could kill himn easily but inspite of donating kavach kundal, curses from his childhood, big curse of forgetting brhamastra, using lord indra's weapon to kill ghatotkach still karna was killed by chal,neither he sacrificed his weapons like bheeshma,nor he got distracted by drona ,even his wheel was stuck still lord krishna had the confidence in him that if he is given chance to get his weapons back he could tackle arjun so for dharma's sthapana but karna was still killed by deceit

so even if kavach kundal was a trade(which i still don't believe) that trade was useless during time of karna's death
