so lets see after the truth is revealed what all he does for dury and for pandavs

pandavas

1)refuses the throne so that yudi can be a king along with refusing the infamous offer

2)Asks krishna ji not to tell the truth to pandavs so that they are not in any kind of delimna

3)Promises kunti to not kill 4 pandavas and fulfills it as well

Dury

1)he doesn't promise not to kill arjuna since he was the main combatant for arjuna in the war and he had earlier promised dury that he will kill arjuna which he doesnt break

2)4 times he refuses the offer to join pandavas(twice by krishna ji,once by kunti and once by bhishma)

3)Except for sparing the 4 panadavs he does what all he can to ensure dury's victory including participating in abhimanyu's death and killing gatotkacha even if it meant losing his shakti

so all in all after the the truth is revealed he tries to do things for both the sides i would 50-50 percent but this 50% would have been a betrayal from dury's POv as dury would have expected karna to give his 100%

Yeah... it was not possible to be fair to both sides fully... His delimma was ..he could not choose one side fully... I mean neither did he choose pandavas completely...nor he fought for dury completely..

to be fair with dury .. Dury knew about Bheeshma and Drona not killing pandavas ..but he didnt know that karna would spare 4 of them..so yes he was sort of betrayed in that way..

Having said that.. He sort of makes it up by giving himself up here...

In my opinion Karna was as loyal to Duryodhan as one can be. There always exists a breaking point in every relationship, a limit to how much you are willing to compromise. So, the decision Karna took in the end was not a display of disloyalty, rather an affirmation of his individuality in my view. Though many factors played a role in his rejecting the 'switch of sides' offer, I have to acknowledge a very significant fact that was conveyed in those conversations.

The fact that Karna believed that there was something intrinsically right about Yudhistir being the king.

And he understood that his obligations towards Duryodhan would come in way, hence he almost aspired for the war to set things right. It is hard to ignore his nobility here. Thus, whatever choices he made after this can always be debated, but the basis of his decision find its source in the depths of his being-which finally refused to succumb to the pressures of his duty and loyalty. He sensed something as Right and did it irrespective of consequences. Perhaps he was disloyal to Duryodhan in this regard, but at least loyal to his conviction.

I am reminded of Ayn Rand's famous line from a conversation between friends in Fountainhead-"I could die for you. But I couldn't, and wouldn't, live for you."

Yes, Karna might not have managed to do this his entire life, but he surely showed glimpses of this streak towards the end.
