I have an uncle.. a desi- party uncle, not related to me by bloood.

He is narrow minded, lacks tact, no filters between brain and mouth, quick tempered and stubborn ..has to have the last word even if it doesn't make sense...unsolicited lectures to people who don't want part of it..spews filth out when he talks. Naturally he is immature ... I think he dropped out of school in year 10.. So everyone thinks he is the way he is because he has no education.. ?

But the three wise men, prophets, gurus, pandits... they didn't go to high school, 1 degree ..2 degree.. ? Yet no one accuses them of being uneducated, far from it people seek them out to advance themselves.

So what is education? And what makes us a successful human being?

Educated person to me is someone with emotional maturity, tact and someone who has the power to persuade people into going to hell in a way that they look forward to it.
A degree stamp doesn't do anything.. everyone has one these days. I prefer to associate myself with someone who's never set a foot in school but is wise and wordly than someone with a degree but behaves worse than an illiterate villager.

yeah I agree
I also think an 'educated' person is a patient person, because the negative attributes of that uncle in particular are reflective in his low levels in patience .. It is fascinating though, while this western education system is definitely enhancing our overall knowledge.. it doesn't really contribute to making us better people?

I think the knowledge that you cram in to pass your exams is useless if there is no virtue or real desire to make a difference to your personality. I value experiences that shape and refine you as a person over book learning anyday. Anyone can lock themselves up and rot learn to get a degree or what people like to call "education"... nothing to go around thumping your chest for if you have grown up with, are surrounded with and have seen people with degrees around you. 😆

yeah thats true .. the only thing I value from a degree or education is when it has been completed. because you have set yourself a task and you have completed it . It's important to complete what you have started... in everything and education is a lesson in that.. .( again patience)..but apart from that I can tell you a degree in dentistry teaches me 5% max of the subject and likewise medicine a degree in it teaches you 1% of the human body and its 'medicine' .. as with any other subject matter ... learning is endless and there is not one subject that we know its entirety .. anyway thats off track I guess

That's true.. finishing your degree does showcase the fact that you have the discipline and motivation required to stick out a four year long journey ... but apart from that, degrees are dime a dozen these days. And there are lots of other factors in play as well including networking and knowing the right people who can refer you to companies.

Doing my bit to get back on track.. 😆

Educated person for me is someone who can apply his knowledge into action. He should not only be compassionate but have basic courtesy too and a level of commitment to achieve its goals. Education is not about how may degrees you got, its about how you apply your knowledge in a way that will reveal true virtues out of you which is a true intelligence. He is not only with good judgement but question assumptions as well, and has a broad thinking with very much flexible attitude -- even accept his mistakes, criticism and keep working upon themselves. Oh! i have seen some folks who are so rigid, that difference in opinion will make them all huff and puff, and they go on and on just to prove themselves right no matter how much lack of knowledge they display and they look daft 😆. --- i can continue with this but i think less is more. :P
