Later, I was shooting for the serial Karam when Ekta walked into the sets. I was playing Yash Tonk's bhabhi and was dressed in a traditional get-up. Ekta just told me, 'You are my Parvati.' I had a lot of apprehensions about the serial, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, though Ekta always told me that once the serial was on air, people would call me Parvati. She would say that Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii would rewrite television history. I did not believe her; every producer talks like this about their work. When I went for a narration three weeks before the show was slated to go on air, I realised that, for once, the bhabhi was the central character. | |
| I had never worked so hard in my life. After 15 days of shooting, when I went back to Delhi, I actually considered calling them and begging off. I felt I had made a mistake. But, by then, the promos were on air and Parvati bhabhi was becoming the talk of the town. My friends in Mumbai would call me in Delhi and tell me about the positive response the serial was getting. People would stop me and say,'Aapka serial aane wala hai.' At first, I could not believe what was happening to me. The initial brush of fame is an inexplicable feeling. It was only after I came to Mumbai that the truth sank in. I would see huge hoardings of mine between Bandra and Oshiwara. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that Parvati would go on to be a household name. I'm glad I went by Ekta's convictions. They were so right. |
