What is endearing about ZGH is that spread over the episodes are small threads that are linked to each other. Almost imperceptibly. But, these form the basis of the relationship between the various characters.

I am tempted to try and pick on these as the story progresses.

One: Kashaf's sense of humour

Two: Reason behind Zaroon's decision to get engaged to Asmara

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One such thread is Kashaf's sense of humour.

At their first meeting, Zaroon tells Kashaf that she has to improve her sense of humour and she replies that she could give him the same advice!

Over a year later (before their Library Tiff), hearing Kashaf's replies ("you are easily impressed by girls, na?", "Which girl aren't you impressed by?") Zaroon compliments her on her sense of humour. And Kashaf tells him that he is the first person to appreciate her sense of and that, till now, she has not been able to find her sense of humour,

Not everyone could get Kashaf's sense of humour. Sidra, Kashaf's sister who is as kush-misaaj as Zaroon, understands Kashaf's sense of humour -- the dry humour laced with wit -- even if she doesn't address it as such. For instance, when Sidra tells Kashaf that anyone who conversed with her for a few hours would want to go and drown, Kashaf tells that one would have to travel a distance and that there was no money as it was the end of the month. Sidra understands her sister well enough. It is the result of sibling love and years of living with each other and being each other's sounding board.

Yet, in their verbal sparring spanning a period of a year (and slightly more), Zaroon has understood Kashaf's sense of humour. Completely taken aback at her verbal thrusts and parrys at their first meeting, Zaroon countered it with a suggestion to improve her sense of humour. Over time, he became used to her verbal thrusts and finally understood and appreciated her sense of humour. I don't think that Zaroon's appreciation of her sense of humour was merely a ploy. He had finally understood her sense of humour, although he was almost unerringly its target.

Yet another thread -- the reason behind Zaroon's decision to get engaged to Asmara.

The timing of Zaroon's decision to get engaged to Asmara is interesting. He agreed to it almost immediately after the big fight with Kashaf in the library. Not before.

Of course, it would not have been prudent at all for the creatives to have shown Zaroon as a betrothed man, who was pursuing Kashaf flippantly only to prove that she would fall for him. So, logically, it makes sense that Zaroon would not have committed to any lady at the time he was mock-courting Kashaf.

Yes, we also had several scenes in which Gazala, his mother, pushed him to agree to the engagement with Asmara. Yes, there was also the impending sword of the possibility of Asmara's parents settling her alliance with her cousin.

We have several logical reasons that lead to Zaroon finally caving in and agreeing to get engaged to Asmara.

But, could it also be that the fight with Kashaf and their subsequent conversation in Sir Abrar's office ended any subconscious hope that lingered in his mind about actually wooing Kashaf?

Let's rewind back to their first meeting in the classroom. Zaroon enters the classroom with Asmara and Osama. Asmara and Osama go ahead and occupy seats. Zaroon starts talking to a fellow student clad in a salwar kameez. Just a mere coincidence? Or is he deliberately attracted to women who fit his conception of what a woman should wear?

And, then his glance falls on a seated fellow student whose head is covered by her dupatta. Intrigued, he excuses himself from the salwar kameez-clad student and walks towards this student and introduces himself.

His subsequent interactions with her too only confirm that she has a conservative mindset.

Therefore, the timing of Zaroon's decision to get engaged to Asmara is interesting as it might provide an underlying reason for it. We find Zaroon later admitting that Kashaf was perhaps always subconsciously in his mind and that he kept comparing Asmara to her. So, therefore, was it the fight with Kashaf in the library that finally pushed him to agreeing to get engaged to Kashaf? Or was it only a logical conclusion of a long series of nagging by his mother and Asmara and her parents that resulted in his decision?

@anobserver: Good observation about Zaroon's decision. It didnt strike me earlier...but now that you have pointed out I think you are right. He seemed to agree only when all hopes with Kashraf were lost or atleast as a backlash against Kashraf.
Zaroon and Asmaira are on the verge of a breakup. I wonder if the final break will come before he meets Kashraf again or after it.

Interesting observations...

Regarding Zaroon's appreciation of her sense of humor.I remember this scene vividly from one of the later episodes where Z wants her to come out with him and she wants to sleep.

She said something along the lines of "Raat bahot ho chuki hai aur mai abhi machharo ko apna taza khoon nahi pilaungi😆 " and Z's reply was "Comeon now dnt try to be funny"😆

I personally find her sense of humour hilarious at times.Another instance which I remember is when K's mother asks her to think of having a baby, she was like "Pehle is bacche ko toh sambhal lu jo nikhname k sath mila hai" 😆

Nice thread and great observations!
Yeah, Kashaf surely has this amazing sense of humor 😆 which Zaroon does apparently understand. He doesn't mind the things she says..he usually just laughs it off (apart from a few instances where they both started fighting lol). In another thread we were discussing how Kashaf comes across as rude and that rudeness is inexcusable..yet, Zaroon hears it all and STILL keeps coming back to Kashaf. He even says in one scene that he's not sure why he hears all the things Kashaf has to say, but he does..and if it were someone else, he perhaps would never do that.

They connect in this strange way..and subconsciously, they both have this soft spot for each other...something they're oblivious too...at least for now.
