Just finished re-reading HBP now, and was thinking after I read the scene between Maljoy and Dumbledore...

Malfoy tells DD that Snape made the Unbreakable Vow to his mum.. yet Dumbledore counters with saying that Snape is only working for DD and kind of disregards what Draco said.. so does thist mean that DD didn't know that, or he just didn't want to say it in front of Draco? Because of course, Dumbledore knows what happens if you break an UNbreakable Vow, so.. was just wondering...if he had known that.. maybe that's why Snape did the curse on him? Just a thought, i had thought this before but decided to share it here...😛

Hey Ammmu,

Nice post, but I had mentioned this in anotehr reply post of mine to a post that discussed abt Snape and his intentions...

I agree withya... Dumbledore knew abt the Unbreakable Vow, which is why the little argument between Snape and Him and Dumbledore insists that Snape continue with it....only because if Snape intended to break it he would die himself and Dumbledore being the wise man, would have seen the necessity of it... 😊

Nice topic!

I think Dumbledore must have had an idea about the Unbreakable Vow and hence the argument with Snape...maybe Snape wanted to break the Vow and DD was arguing with him NOT to break it.

Or if you want to believe that Snape is guilty and on the Dark side...then maybe DD did not know about the Unbreakable Vow and Snape was leading him on and then killed him for Malfoy.

It goes both ways...and depends upon Snape's loyalties...

Throughout book 6,Harry kept voicing his suspicions and even TOLD Dumbledore about his learning that Snape made the Unbreakable Vow with Narcissa when he(Harry) eavesdropped on Snape and Draco after Slughorn's Christmas party...And Dumbledore didnt seem even the least bit unnerved when Harry confided all this, which only implies that Dumbledore had been privy to all this information allready

Dumbledore believed that Snape was loyal beyond a shadow of doubt, and I dont see how Snape could have hoodwinked Dumbledore.Dumbledore would have really had a VERY strong reason for trusting Snape....Whilst it has been proven in the past that not all of Dumbledore's decisions are irreproachable and that he too is capable of making mistakes,it still remains that Dumbledore wasnt foolish..

I prefer the first theory... The second theory is a little too cliched... I dont think Snape is bad... It will just be too obvious...

Probably Dumbledore knew he was going to be killed by the dark side and gave Snape permission to kill him if the need be.. So that Snape could gain the confidence of the dark side including the ones like Bellatrix Lestrange and help in Voldemort's downfall... Dumbledore realised that he had to die if oldy had to be defeated... And he preferred dying in Snape's hands than onw of the other death eaters..

TRue true.. now, after reading your replies, I realised that we have talked about this before, sholly 😳 😆 it just came up again suddenly so posted it!

Although I almost hated Snape when I first read that last part, finally I thought later on that maybe he really isn't bad.. I was just so caught up in what he did, thought kind of like how Harry did too... so we'll see.. although would really like to know more abt him, cos he is such a mystery...

IF Dumbledore did know, then.. it wouldve been his own intentions..
