I think that you're right and that karan is one of the culprit when it comes to adi's bad upbringing.
But i think it's important to point out that if raman has a part in the mistake, it's mostly shagun and ashok fault that adi is a brat.
To grow without a father is a bad thing, and to grow with a distant father who keeps forgiving you every bad thing that you do is another bad thing but watching the show, i feel like these are minor issues when it comes to adi's education.
Shagun gives him money instead of quality time, she gives him superficial attention instead of mother love, she barely knows him, loves him or educates him. This is what makes adi a bad kid. The only time she gives him some of her time, it's to make sure Adi still hate his father and to elaborate new plans to make raman suffer.
Raman forgives adi's mistakes, but in the first place adi makes mistakes because of his mother's careless attitude.
Raman may have let go of his son but Ashok is guilty of not being a good step dad (if he is a "step dad" at all and not "the man who lives with adi's mother"). I have yet to see any good scene between Ashok and Adi.
Let's say, Raman would feel guilty about not being there for Adi and spoil his son (just like the situation is right now) but adi had someone else than shagun as a mom (let's say someone just like Ishita) and someone else than ashok as a step dad (let's say someone just like bala), Adi would be a really nice kid.
I do even think that he would be the type of kid to lecture raman on how love is something one deserves, and not something one can buy!😆
btw : Thank god for bringing Bala into this poor kid's life !
