Mark Reed is on the minds of firefighters at his station.
"A lot of prayers. Tough day," said Lieutenant Joseph Victor.
The vacant house on Wende where he was injured in the line of duty was demolished today after flames tore through it.
"He shouldn't have had to come out...over a vacant house being burned down," said Neighbor Maurice Randle.
36 year old Mark Reed, an 11 year veteran of the Buffalo Fire Department, was injured Sunday night fighting this blaze. Fire Commissioner Mike Lombardo says firefighters were outside the structure, when the chimney hit Reed.
"This is very dangerous work that these guys, these men and women do every day," said Lombardo.
Reed suffered head trauma, chest injuries, a punctured lung, several fractures, and a very serious right lower extremity injury. Reed was in surgery early this morning.
"So at this point it time he is very critical. He has received a number of units of blood and resuscitation and the next two or three days will determine overall what his outcome is going to be, " said Trauma Dr. Krishnan Raghavendran.
Commissioner Mike Lombardo calling the blaze arson. Fire investigators on scene while the house was demolished.
"It makes it harder for us a firefighter injured it just brings it home. Too close to home," said Fire Marshall Brian Martinez.
"Everybody knows it could be them. There is not one guy in the Fire Department that knows it couldn't be them in that same position. Why does it have to be Mark and not me or one of my crew members. It hits home," added Victor.
