Hello everyone,
I usually avoid making posts such as these, mainly because I feel that everyone can decide on their own what they want to write and post. However, I saw a couple of posts today regarding the very issue I have addressed below, and realised that quite a large number of people feel the same way about it the way I do. And it occurred to me that maybe we could all do something about it together.
The issue in question is those terrible banner ads that Colors insists on displaying while the show is going on. I haven't come across a single person who either likes or doesn't mind these unattractive disruptions to our viewing experience. Currently it's JDJ and CNWK, which are going to go for the next few months, and then I'm sure we'll be treated to equally lovely ads portraying the faces of Big Boss contestants. *shudder*
Just thinking about these ads plastered across Rudra and Paro's faces, even during their honeymoon track, makes me feel quite morose.
Frankly, it's not just a question of RR. I'm sure people who watch other shows on Colors and are fans of those actors, also find these ads disruptive and distasteful.
Which is why, a few days back I had written the letter given below to Colors. I don't really know whether anyone at their end even reads these letters. I for one haven't received any reply from them.
All I want to say is that if anyone wishes to send this letter (given below) or even their own letter, please do feel free to do so. It may eventually reach the ears or the notice of someone at Colors who actually cares about the satisfaction of their customers. All I ask is that let's stay polite and not indulge in any harsh words. I don't that ever helps.
The address I sent it to was editor@in.com
This is the only contact email id I could find. If someone know of another one, please send it to that if you are so inclined.
Cheers!
Dear Colors TV,
This is a sincere request to please stop showing your banner ads promoting your other programmes while a show is being screened. You can show all your ads, as many as you want during the commercial breaks. But please stop forcing us to watch these ads while we're watching a favourite show.
I'm sure people at your organization must have watched several shows and movies themselves. Imagine watching a favourite movie of yours. For example Three Idiots or Sholay or Avataar or any other. Now imagine how it would look if half the screen and the faces of Aamir Khan or Amitabh Bachchan are covered by flying objects, balls flying through the air, faces of other actors popping up, shiny golden balls spinning through the screen.
It completely ruins the effect. It completely ruins the viewing experience. As simple as that.
And it doesn't serve your purpose either. Your intention to show ads is presumably to encourage people to watch your other show. What it actually does is:
1) Raise the blood pressure of your current loyal customer. By ruining my viewing experience, by forcing me to watch your ads while I'm trying to follow what is happening in my favourite show is not going to make me like your channel or your shows. It will only aggravate and annoy me.
It could be a highly emotional scene. Someone could be dying or weeping or about to be killed in the show that one is watching, and right then pops up that JDJ ball and someone comes dancing in the middle of the screen. Or Kapil is jumping around with some guests.
Or it could be a very romantic scene. A scene that as a regular viewer, you have been waiting for several months, and suddenly Salman Khan or now Anupam Kher's's face appears in the middle of the two characters.
2) Frankly, it makes me dislike the other shows instinctively. Which I'm sure is not the effect you want to create. It makes me want to avoid watching any show of yours in the future. Especially the ones whose ads I am being forced to see. It makes me dislike JDJ contestants for no reason, it makes me dislike Anupam Kher's new show, it make me dislike the bed of roses and the actors of your new fiction show.
If anyone at all is reading this, it is my humble request that Colors should consider stopping this very disruptive and unpopular trend immediately.
If the customer and his/her viewing experience of your channel and programmes matters in the least, please stop showing your ads during the show. It is really a terrible terrible terrible practice.
Can Colors please take the initiative to show that they care about their loyal customers?
Waiting in great hope to one day be able to see and enjoy watching the story and actors of my favourite show WITHOUT ANY distraction.
Regards
