I dont know who'll agree with me but i think that our television serials are not as they should be. Before we used to have comedy shows (hum sab ek hain, taak jhaak, guest house, do aur do paanch), show which were meant for moral lessons (udaan, doosra kewal, nukkad, hum log) and that too not far back.....mayb 5 or 10 years.

But now there's hardly a comedy show in top channels like Zee, Star Plus and Sony combined. The shows are now mainly violence-oriented.The happiness on the faces are gone and there no fun 'n' masti in them. There's hardly any show which have not shown murder (kumkum, kasauti, kahaani ghar ghar ki, kyukii...,piya ka ghar). They are shown as if its nothing big & its usual....dont they think the effect of kidnapping, exhortation and murder scences have on their viewers?? we can see the crime chart going up day by day and year by year!!!

KK worked because it was something fresh and healthy 😛 but it has been poisoned by those shows 😡 ....but whose responsible for it.......makers or viewers? Have viewers become so corrupt-minded that they cant live without sorrowful and violent soaps and cant stand humour and comedy ones?

And if they think that its western style, so let them remember that western comedy is hardly comparable (simpsons, just friends...etc.)

Its sad to say but we are going up by stepping downwards. 😭

Intersting point raised Sam. I used to love Udaan as a kid.

There r no decent children serials either. The kids these days are shown to be smart mouthed smart alecs. Makes u wonder of misplaced childhood.

Here they started afternoon comedy hour where they show comedy serials and people at work miss them...

😭

I wholeheartedly agree. When KK came along I thought that Zee was the only sensible channel around as it thought up KK and was brave enough to stick to its original content and I am still amazed at this turnaround .Wonder who watches such tiresome crap at least several people I know have stopped watching it .Even melodrama has limits and KK is no good at being a drama.
Should'nt the title montage be changed now ? KK is no longer a comedy and I am afraid there is no chance that it ever will be!

production values have gotten a lot better in recent times...stars want to be on tv, when it used to be a no-go domain.

I agree. Almost all serials are similar. Too much makeup, over-acting, no sensible story..You feel like yelling at the makers for showing this nonsense.. On one hand, we complain about westernization and on other hand we keep showing way too much skin on TV.
I am sure one can act with decent clothes on too..
By watching these serials, one would think all saas-bahus fight, divorces are real easy, there is no such thing as good police work..etc. etc..
I miss hum log, udaan, buniyaad, fauji, -- chitrhaar....:)

couldn't agree more. And if I sit to do the analysis, here are a couple of reasons I can think about... reasons, not justifications :

We used to have limited channels (and in the days of Humlog, Buniyad, Udan... even limited hours) Now it's 24 hr and god knows how many channels. So not only the monster needs a constant feed, but also it has many mouths. As a result the content is diluted and there is no quality control. I think that's why the trend started with the earlier better quality serials could not continue.

But an optimist that I am, I also think that this is possibly a passing phase, where anything and everything goes. Soon the creators and spectators will have enough of the masala crap and will crave for some more sensible stuff. Let's call it "coming of age" of the Indian TV. I trust that there is loads of talent in India, and it is only a matter of time before people start using it wisely.
