Unrequited Love

"How could he do that!!! How could he? When he knew I was supposed to be his partner why on earth did he even agree to dance with her???? I need an answer Mr. Shekhawat!!! A real answer." reported a very frustrated Sharon Rai Prakash Shekhawat as she stormed into her 2 bhk yet extremely vast and well furnished flat.

Coming to the reason of her being upset, or annoyed it was her husband, Swayam who had managed to, knowingly or unknowingly piss her off.

"Sharon..." In came a very angry Swayam, obviously due to her behaviour.

"What?" She looked at him with a very frustrated expression.

"Why did you walk away like that?"

Her mind took a flashback, precisely two hours twenty five minutes back, when they reached his colleague's place for a party. The party was thrown in a big party room with all the titbits required to fill the party with excitement.

Swayam and Sharon didn't like to roam like a married couple. They were contract bound. One should have thanked Mr. Gautum Rai Prakash's deteriorating for seeing such a unique year of Swayam and Sharon being married. Hardly do you see two people with contrasting opinions and hating each other since the beginning getting married, right?

The marriage was a contract one, as in before they got married, Swayam and Sharon decided to get the marriage annulled after year only if there was no love between them. 369 days were over, yet they couldn't manage to get their marriage annulled. Sharon hadn't thought about it, but Swayam had decided. He was going to get their marriage annulled very soon. And anyhow, at least from his side, there was absolutely no feeling of love for her. Yes he had grown fond of her, obviously. She was the only one living with him for such a long time and he was kind of accustomed to her behaviour. But he didn't love her, and he was pretty sure, she didn't love him either, especially due to the way she was behaving since a couple of days. Getting angry at small things, developing interest in his life inspite of knowing that there could never be anything between them, getting pissed on seeing him talk to other girls and expecting him to notice every single thing about her. Well, she even got angry when he forgot about their anniversary. Their first anniversary according to her was a very big event and she expected him to remember the same.

Why would he? Well yes it was a reminder for him that he hadn't fallen in love with her and that they had to get their wedding annulled. It wasn't special or anything for him. Although he did feel special when she gifted him a wallet. He felt nice, but at the same time weird because she was trying to fulfill all the duties a regular wife does, although their marriage was not like other marriages. She seemed to have forgotten that.

"That's none of your business." She retorted and went straight to her room, sorry, their room.

She sat in front of the mirror in disgust. She was angry, at him. How could he even think of dancing with his colleague in the presence of his wife???? Especially when his wife was 1000 times beautiful than that girl!! How could he!! Didn't he even once think how bad she would feel!! How hurt she would be? He had absolutely no right to play with her feelings like this. No way.

Swayam was really confused now. On one hand Sharon had walked out of the party leaving him to do all the explanation and on the other hand she refused to give an explanation to him. What was wrong with her? This had never happened before. He needed an answer. A practical answer. She had to answer him. He was Swayam Shekhawat and he knew how to convince her to tell the truth. How could she escape it?

"Sharon..." he walked after her to the room and locked the room from inside so that she couldnt escape.

Her eyes turned wide as he entered the room. She got up and looked at him.

Time stopped for her as he came close to her. He looked so adorable in that tuxedo. How did he manage to look so good always? And why did he have to make her drool on him?

Okay you are drooling Sharon. Stop right there. Remember he crossed his limits today?

Yes he did. She wore the mask of anger on her face as he looked on.

She looked really pretty, he thought, clad in the red saree, open hair, looking as pretty as ever.

"What?" she asked breaking the eye contact.

"You didn't answer my question."

"I don't have time to answer your baseless questions." She grumbled.

"Sharon, I will have to give an explanation tomorrow, answer me, not for my sake but for your sake. You know how horrible I am in making stories. What if I cook a stupid story and narrate it tomorrow? What will my colleagues think about you? That my wife is immature and stupid?"

She gave him a glare.

"What? You know I can do that."

She recollected all those moments he had cooked up fake stories to cover her absence. They were REALLY bad .

But how could she tell him that she was jealous, really jealous of him dancing with that colleague of his ?? How could she? Well, she was Sharon Rai Prakash. She knew how to divert questions.

"Don't tell them anything. Why do you even need to talk about your wife in front of your colleagues? You can easily change the topic."

He sighed.

"But still I need to know YOUR reason for my satisfaction. And you are going to tell me why you behaved in such an inappropriate manner." He said in a stern voice.

"No. I'm not." She said.

"Fine." Swayam said. He wasn't going to talk to her further, and anyhow their marriage was going to get annulled the very next day so he had to tolerate her only for one day. He had decided, he was not even going to sleep in their room, he was going to sleep in the living room on the sofa. He didn't want to listen to her blabber or be a victim of her uncanny behaviour and tantrums any more. Enough now. Even he had a limit to tolerating. He went straight to the bed and took a pillow, a bed sheet and walked to the door. Before he could unlock the door from inside, he turned to her and said something which shocked the hell out of her.

"Be ready in the morning by 9 am tomorrow. We have to get our marriage annulled."

Wait...what was happening??? She was shocked. What annulment and why?? Why was he talking like that?? Just because she hadn't answered his question?? That's why he was going to get their marriage annulled ? Only because of that lame reason ?? Was he serious ??

"Swayam..." She said making him stop.

"Now what? You can't come tomorrow? Any of your appointments or anything ?"

She walked to him.

"Just because I didn't answer your question doesn't give you any right to annul our wedding. Why are you getting upset over such a small thing?"

Swayam couldn't believe she had said something like that.

"Out of all the people I didn't expect you to say something like that Sharon. How can you not remember that our marriage is based on a contract? A year ago, only because of your dad we got married and everyone related to us knows that it's a contract marriage. We had decided to get it annulled if we don't fall in love within a year. And see, it's a year up! And we haven't fallen in love. Doesn't that make us annul the marriage at the earliest? We have to get it annulled right? We can't possibly live, or tolerate each other more. You know that right?"

Everything came flashing in front of Sharon all of a sudden. Her father's only wish to get her married to Swayam... the contract...the condition... those one year, the initial days were like hell...but later..How could she forget that their wedding was based on one contract ? How could she??? Oh god... why ... why did she even let this condition crop up.. Why?? How could she do that??? How could she forget such an important thing?

Her brow corrugated. Criss crosses started appearing on her forehead. Could she do anything about it now?

"Now what Sharon?" He asked her. "Do you remember anything, or have you forgotten everything?"

"I remember..." She said slowly. " I remember everything Swayam." Her tone lowered.

"So, you are coming with me tomorrow right? To get it annulled?"

She went into a deep thought. What could she do?

"Sharon? You are coming with me tomorrow right?"

She nodded involuntarily.

"Cool. I'm going out, to sleep. Good night. Be ready tomorrow."

He turned to leave.

Oh god, what was happening?? Did she just nod?? Did she say yes about getting their marriage annulled ?? Of course, initially she was waiting for the year to get over so that she could end their marriage but not now?? She didn't want to end it!! No, especially not on such a gross note!! How could she let it happen?? Flashes of the year came in front of her... their wedding, the time they had taken to adjust, to get accustomed to the other one's likes and dislikes...travelling together, Sharon cooking for him, her birthday gift given by him after them becoming close...everything...and in the midst of all this, her realization of love... She had actually started loving him...she did..and how much ever she tried to convince her heart of the same not being true, she still managed to adore him...and somewhere she had actually forgotten that their marriage was supposed to end after a year!!! And that's why she had started to give him the husband-ly like treatment to him and not the friend like!!!

Damn she loved him!! She couldn't confess to him thinking that he would do it first but no! Maybe he didn't and maybe that's why he had spoken of getting the marriage annulled!! No!!! She didn't want to end it!! NO THAT WAS NOT HAPPENING! Not at all...Her heart was thumping up and down and she didn't know what to do.. .all she knew was that she was in love with him and she wanted to be with him for the rest of her life. That's it. And she was Sharon Rai Prakash, she could achieve whatever she wanted. This time she wanted Swayam's company for the rest of her life and she would achieve it. She could do anything for that. As of then, ending the marriage was nowhere in her to do list. She had to talk to him

Before he could leave the room, a very determined and frustrated Sharon Rai Prakash stopped him.

"Stop right there Swayam Shekhawat." She said as a lone tear escaped her eye.

He stopped, again. Her voice sounded melancholy and frustrated at the same time. Now what? He wondered.

"I am not going to end this contract based marriage." She said as she forced on the last three words.

"What did you say?" Turned a very surprised Swayam.

"You are not going to get the marriage annulled Swayam. I don't want it."

"Sharon, if you clearly remember we haven't fallen in love." He moved towards her. She flinched. "And this was clearly there in the contract. So we have to get it annulled, according to the contract. You don't have a choice."

She gulped, although she wasn't chewing anything. "One, always has a choice." She said the same line he used to, leaving him stunned. "I have a choice too."

"Swayam, you wanted to know why I walked out from the party right?" She asked.

"Yes, do you want to answer my question?"

"Swayam, I walked out of the party, because I was..." She paused. She had never confessed her love to anyone. Oh god, it was pretty difficult.

"You were?"

"I was jealous of that colleague of yours. I was jealous of you dancing with that colleague of yours. I was really unhappy, and I couldn't take it. That's why I walked out. "

Phew! She had said it.

Uh.. what? What did she say? Swayam thought? She was jealous of him dancing with someone?? It seemed unrealistic, yet in some way, true. Anyway she had to do the explanation.

"Why were you jealous Sharon?"

What? He still wanted an answer to that?? Wasn't the jealousy factor enough for him?? He should have understood!!

Not thinking further, impulsively enough, in a single moment, she placed her lips over his. Their lips moulded perfectly as she kissed him with passion. She kissed him affectionately, with all the love she had for him. Maybe a kiss was enough to make him understand her feelings for him... Maybe it was enough..Maybe now he would understand everything...

He responded, although he didn't know why he did that. Yes, he was too shocked for words. He hadn't really expected such a reaction from her. She did confuse him at times.

They broke apart, due to lack of oxygen. She smiled, it looked more of blushing, due to him.

And he? He found himself smiling sheepishly too, as he ruffled through his hair.

" I love you Swayam." She finally gathered the courage to tell him. He wasn't shocked, nor was he surprised. Jealousy had more or less made him believe the same, but he wanted to hear the same from her.

"Hmm..." He said.

" And I know you don't..."

"I don't."

She admitted. Her heart broke into small pieces as he said that. But she was prepared for it. She couldn't help it, could she ?

"So are you going to annul the marriage tomorrow?"

"No." He sounded impassive.

"Good night..." He said and threw his pillow and bed sheet on the bed next to him, preparing to jump on the bed and sleep.

"You are not going outside?"

"You want me to sleep outside?"

"No." She smiled. "What are you going to do now?" She asked. It was a lame question, but she asked it anyway. She didn't know how it even popped up in her mind.

"Will wait to fall in love with you." Replied a jovial Swayam and winked at her.

She hid her face as he said that. Typical Swayam. But she was happy. At least love was there from one side.. and as far as the other side was concerned, she knew she was going to wait for it..She knew it was going to happen...soon..

Lifeline

It all started with a small nagging thought at the back of her head as a result of frustration from the constant questioning at one of her friend's wedding. Back then, it was just an impulse, a strange thought, a crazy solution to most of her worries.

[Flashback]

She was a famous dancer and the owner of the Raiprakash Dance Academy so there was much buzz about her personal life. Unfortunately that buzz didn't stop from spreading amongst her college friends, and didn't seem to leave her even during the wedding function. And it wasn't even her wedding!

She grumbled as she made her way towards the bride.

"I swear, one more time someone asks me about my secret affair' with Shivam, I will punch them!"

Kria chuckles and side-hugs Sharon.

"Sorry yaar, we didn't realize that the media would get to all of them. But we did make sure that no media would get inside so we have a private function. Ab kya kare, we have too many celebrities here na?" She teased Sharon as Rey came and stood in front of them and smiled.

"You know I am just so tired of dealing with this crap. Everywhere I go, every interview I give, every promotion I go to, people just have to ask if I am dating someone. Like why? Do I need to be dating someone just because I am successful? I am satisfied already! Can't deal with anything else at the moment," she sighed exasperated as Kriya rubbed soothing circles behind her back.

"Agar itni problem hai in sab se, then why not just hire someone to pretend to be your boyfriend? It will stop the rumors no? After all, you have the money for it.." Rey raised his eyebrow at her and commented.

She rolled her eyes at him. This was the umpteenth time he told her that and he knew how much it irked her because that was just too much trouble and work. Besides, they would always need to keep up appearances and what if someone actually hired a detective to check on the guy she hires? What if someone looked into the guy's background? What if their truth is revealed? Then what would she do? It would only create more chaos in her already-chaotic life. She didn't need all of that at this point in her life.

That topic was buried again for two more months, until her mother decided to introduce Sharon to her friend's sons on her visit to her parents' house. Now, people would assume that she would walk out of the house as soon as that happened. However, Sharon couldn't do that - not to her mother who had always been with her in every step of the way regardless of all the odds being against her. So, she did what all any loving daughter would do in this situation - lie to her mother. Now, it isn't as bad as it seems. She only meant to do that to save herself from the trauma and her mother from being concerned about her well-being.

Her mother had been initially satisfied with knowing that her daughter was interested in someone and they are seeing each other little under the radar due to the media. She had respected that. However, things started getting a little unsettling when her mother started asking more questions and giving her advice to make her relationship work. This wouldn't even have made Sharon that comfortable, if it were not due to the fact that her mother had told her immediate family about this phantom' boyfriend of hers to settle everyone down. Of course, one should never underestimate the power one carries to spread rumors because that's exactly what had happened. It came to a point that her aunts and uncles were demanding that she visited home with her boyfriend so they could all have a chance with them.

Of course, Sharon wouldn't even have cared enough if it weren't for the fact that her mother was getting the brunt of it all. Now, Sharon was nothing if not good at improvising. However, that didn't always help the situation because she was also impulsive. She had been pacing around her living room when an idea had struck her and she had called Rey up. Rey showed up within half an hour of that call.

"Sharon, you sure you want to do this? Hiring someone to be your boyfriend for couple of days to blow off some steam is understandable but you sure you want to actually do a contract marriage?"

"Rey, I have been thinking about it all afternoon and I honestly think this is the best solution to all of this. We can have a contract marriage, and do like a private affair for the family. We can put this facade up for few months and then go our separate ways from there on out. No harm done, no attachments, no nothing. It would be perfect! Everyone would have their answer and he would always be in same house as me so we wouldn't really need to work a lot on backstories.'"

Rey sighed and shook his head. He knew that no matter how much he tried to convince her otherwise, there was just no way she would listen to him.

"Alright well, if that's the case then I may have someone who may help you out with that. I have a friend who is in similar situation as you. I am not talking about the part about the lie obviously but he needs to get married soon too. I haven't said anything to him yet because I wanted to ask if you were interested first."

Sharon looked surprised at her luck, and cocked her head to the side.

"But why does he need to get married like that?" Sharon asked curiously.

"He's looking for someone who would abide by the contract and leave as soon as it was up. He doesn't want any gold-digger around and wants someone he can trust. Look, if you have any questions and like to discuss then I can give you his contact information and you guys can talk."

Sharon had just nodded and taken down the information.

After much contemplation on her side, she had sat herself down and called him. When he hadn't answered her calls, she had assumed that he wasn't interested. However, she had received a text message at night as she was about to sleep, apologizing her for not picking up. From there on, they had just talked over text messages and had arranged for a meeting.

When Sharon had first seen Swayam - that was the guy's name - her mind was blown. Of course, she hadn't shown how her heart had skipped a beat or how her eyes almost narrowed when he started talking to her. No, it had nothing to do with the fact that he had a break-taking smile but to do with the fact that she knew exactly who Rey's friend was. She had still remembered her initial interaction with him at the party where she accidentally spilled a drink on him. He had been gracious enough and had only smiled at her. Alas, she had been in a bad mood and had vented her anger out on him. Of course, he had merely raised an eyebrow before Rey interrupted and took her away from Swayam. She never got a chance to apologize or explain her behavior to him.

She had mentally kicked herself and gotten to work. At first, it had taken them some time to come to anything they had agreed on. However, they still decided to go with the marriage because they had both agreed on one thing - they needed this marriage for six months.

The reason that Swayam wanted the marriage more than anything was similar to what Rey had said. He was in a similar situation with his family as she was with hers, and needed a way to get out of the situation. Unfortunately for him, and fortunately for her, he couldn't just trust anyone and had asked Rey to help find a girl who would readily marry him for few months until everything cools down.

When Sharon had first revealed Swayam's name to the family, she had been afraid of the backlash that could cause. However, her family has been more than welcoming.

She didn't know how he did it, but he has successfully charmed everyone in her family - even her dad who couldn't fathom the idea of giving his only daughter away to a guy who he had barely met. Swayam had made sure to get her dad alone and ask him for her hand in marriage. That hadn't been planned at all, but she was more amused than pissed about the whole situation. After all, that is something her boyfriend would have to do anyways.

There was something about Swayam that sparked her interest. It wasn't the way he dressed, or the way he looked when he smiled, or even the way he looked when he dressed up in his suits. It was merely his presence. It calmed people. She had noticed the change he brought out in her family when he was around. The usually obnoxiously loud and demanding family actually looked like civil human beings who belonged to planet Earth. Not only that, she noticed that her father actually liked spending time with him. It warmed her to know that there was someone who could bring a side out of her father that she never saw.

Not only did her family gain a very good suitor for their daughter but Swayam gained a family that he had always craved for. It was a win-win situation for both of them.

[Flashback ends]

Don't get attached! She scolded herself again.

It had been five months into their marriage. Everything had been going smoothly and as they had wanted. The reporters, though still very interested to know about how they had met and gotten to marrying each other, left them alone whenever there was another baseless rumor about them.

She heard a knock and click of her doorknob. She didn't have to turn around to know who was coming in. Swayam had come and put energy drink on her desk as she looked up at him.

"Make sure to hydrate yourself enough so you perform well at the event."

He was gone even before she could reply anything to him. Yes, that was the thing about him. Even though they weren't obligated to do anything for each other, and even though he wasn't obligated to take care of her, he still did. She still remembered the time she had come home late because dance practice had gone later than she had assumed it would. She had been starving on her way back but she was too tired to do a take-out from a restaurant or cook so she had decided to just crash when she arrived. However, she was greeted with fresh aroma of tomato sauce. When she had come in, she saw the tables set and Swayam sitting and waiting. When she had looked confused and questioned him, he had just shrugged and said, "Eating by myself feels lonely.."

That event wouldn't be as significant to her but she had lived with him for five months. She realized eventually that he did that for her. This was because their meals were more regular now, to the point that they took turns to cook and eat together. And this all happened because she had carelessly let it slip from her mouth that she hated eating alone when he had suggested that she explores in one of her travels for her events.

It was always the little things with him. This was also when she had realized her increasing dependency on him. It all started with him making coffee for both of them in the mornings. She hadn't minded that because she needed that boost before she started her day. However, the realized hit her really hard when he went for a business trip for couple of days. Her usual favorite black coffee tasted bland to her compared to his Caramel Macchiato that he had made for her every morning, claiming that it was his specialty.' She hadn't even liked caramel but still had given it a shot only to completely fall in love with it.

However, another problem was looming ahead and she could feel it. He had been slowly pulling away from her for a week now. At first, she had thought that it was only work since he liked the quiet after working for long hours. Now she was sure because he barely interacted with her at all during this week.

After dealing with four more days of silence, she had decided to confront him. That was the reason she came early from work so she could catch him before he went off to bed. When she entered the house, she was greeted with darkness. This confused her because he should be back home by now. Before she could think anything more, she heard her phone ring as she jumped at the sound. She quickly answered the call as she turned the lights on.

"Sharon, could you please come and get Swayam? He's drunk. I wish I could drop him off but I need to urgently go home so I can't. I have to go now but we are at the usual joint. You will see Swayam as soon as you enter!"

Sharon was so perplexed at what had just been said that she couldn't say anything to Rey as he hung up the phone. She looked at her phone again. Swayam was drunk? When did that happen? Swayam never drank!

She had made her way quickly to the joint knowing that Swayam would be there alone. As she made her way through the entrance, she had seen him sprawled on the table with his head down.

She made her way towards him, and sat down in front of him. She shook him to see if he was still conscious.

"Swayam.."

Swayam had moaned and looked up. After blinking a few times, he had given her a drunken grin. The grin was gone soon though. It was gone as soon as it came. She slowly made her way towards him and helped him to the car. After the quiet ride in the car, because Swayam didn't seem to be in the talkative mood, Sharon helped him into the house and sat him down on the sofa. After that, she gave him some water so he could start sobering up.

"Swayam, what's wrong? You've been weird for almost two weeks now. What's going on?"

Swayam hadn't said anything. He held his head between, lowered down, as he supported it with one hand. His bowed head only got more slouchy when she had questioned him. After what seemed like a decent minute or so, he had just sighed.

"I can't take the torture Sharon.."

She had looked confused onto him and sat down on the table in front of him. "What torture?"

His head snapped up and looked into her eyes, "Us. This. All of this. I can't anymore. I just can't."

At first, she hadn't registered what he said. When she did, she felt her heart sink a little as she was prompting her inner voice to come out. She had been tongue-tied. Fortunately, before she could have said anything, Swayam's body went limp against the sofa as he started snoozing.

She just sat there, staring at him and not knowing what to make of it all.

After an hour of sitting and staring, she had gotten a blanket and covered him while adjusting him nicely on the sofa. When that was done, she came to her room and went back to every instant she had with him to figure out where she had gone wrong. It wasn't just about her heart hurting, it was about her whole body shaking with the hurt that she hadn't felt before. That was also the precise moment when she had realized that she had been crying the whole time she had been sitting there and staring at him. She feltbetrayed, mostly because she thought that they were fine. She thought that they had a mutual understanding, a rapport of sort, where they both stuck to each other because they actually liked each other. It all seemed like a lie - all of it. It seemed like all of this time she thought they were doing so well, he had only forced himself to be civil. Surely all of his care and action towards her were not just for show? Surely he didn't really think all of it was a torture for him?

Yes, the denial was so hard to resist, knowing the impact that Swayam had made in her life. He had been a refreshing change - sincere in his regards, genuine in his concerns, simple in his acts, and ever so noble when dealing with others. She had slowly started to fall for him, unknowingly. When she had realized what had happened, she had just let it suppress because she knew that they were both in this contract for a reason. She had made sure to keep herself in check and had made sure that he never found out to what extent she had felt for him.

That's why it hurt her a lot when she realized that he hadn't felt even a speck of what she felt. That's the precise reason that she had decided to walk out. There were only two weeks left to their contract but she also knew that Swayam was hurting. She also knew that he would never share that with her. He wanted to get out right now and she couldn't torture him. So she decided to be the one to take the initiative.

When she had gotten ready and came to the living room, he was already setting her cup of coffee. She had taken a sip and smiled sadly at it. Yes, she would miss this morning ritual. She looked up at his tired eyes and steeled herself.

"Swayam, do you think that you can let me out of this contract two weeks early?"

Swayam's head shot up from his coffee and just stared at her, shocked. She furrowed his brow and frowned, "Is something wrong? Did I do something last night that you didn't like?"

"You tell me. Is something wrong that I should know about?" Sharon inquired.

Swayam stiffened and shook his head negatively. Sharon smirked slightly. So that's how he was going to play this? Fine.

"Don't worry about the reason. It's a bit personal. Do you think it's possible?"

She saw hurt flash on his face as she brushed him off. When he didn't say anything for a while, she decided to give him some time to think about.

"Rey was right. This was a very wrong way."

Sharon had looked confused at him but he shook it off.

"Alright then please let me know if there's a way. Thanks!"

Sharon wasn't able to concentrate on anything and was wishing that the day would just come to an end. When the day did end, she was wishing she had more work as she still didn't have the strength to go home. After wasting an hour around her workplace, she decided to face the reality.

Sharon came face-to-face with Swayam as she entered the house. He was on the phone with someone and hung up as soon as he saw her.

"Sharon, I have the documents ready that you can sign to file for an early divorce. After that, you're free," Swayam finished off in his monotonous, indifferent voice.

No. You're free. Sharon shook herself. She was not going to break down in front of Swayam because that would only compel him to stay with her and Sharon Raiprakash was anything but a burden! She would never want that - especially not with Swayam.

She put her stuff down and took the documents from him. After quick scanning of the document, she set it on the table and signed it right next to Swayam. She smiled sadly down on the document. She was going to forget this as some happy dream before. She would do the same still - Swayam saying that it was torture' didn't lessen the meaning of whatever he did for her.

As she set the document down, she smiled at Swayam.

"Swayam, why were you pulling away?" she tried to ask him again

They just stood there in silence. When she knew that she couldn't handle this any longer, she turned to make her way towards her room when she felt Swayam's hand on her wrist, stopping her. When she turned around, he pulled her little closer.

"Sharon, I need to tell you something. Do you remember the party where we first met, when you spilled something on me?"

Sharon looked at him, little confused at the reason why he brought up the party. She nodded and waited to listen to what he had to say.

"That wasn't the first time I saw you. The first time I saw you was when you saved my life. I still remember that I had just lost my father that day. I was at the bar when I got into a fight with two other guys. What I didn't realize at that time was that I just wanted the pain to stop and I was willing to even die for it. I didn't put up much of fight so they just left me on the road. I was hoping that a car would run me over and just end it all for me. Ironically, it was raining that day too."

Sharon wasn't sure how to react to the story, so she just stood there, looking at the pain he was feeling and hoping that she could do something to stop this pain.

"You've no idea how rough that time was in my life. I was slowly wishing for death to come as the people around me sought to gain something from me. No one ever did anything for me without wanting something in return. I still remember telling my father that I am coming to him any moment when I heard the voice of the tired against the ground. But nothing happened. In fact, you came out and drove me to the hospital. I was unconscious by the time we reached the hospital. When I woke up, you were gone already. You paid all of my bills and did all of the paperwork...for me. When I asked people about you, no one really knew much. I was waiting for you to come and claim your money. I was waiting each and every day as I remembered you in that pink dress trying to help me out. You never came."

Realization dawned on Sharon as she understood what he was talking about. She remembered dropping someone off at the hospital but the guy was too bloody to be identifiable. After that, she had to go to an event so she did all the formalities and left even though she had really wanted to stay back.

"Do you want to know the reason I am telling you this? You know what that incident made me see? You made me see that there are people in this world who genuinely care. To them, it doesn't matter who they are helping. I was so eager to meet you but I also didn't want to meet you the way I was back then. I tried to pick myself up. I re-invented myself and all of that happened because of you. All of it."

He came closer to her and took both of her hands in his.

"You made me the person I am today."

They looked at each other for a moment when he let go of her.

"You want to know the reason I was pulling away? It's not complicated really. I didn't realize the contract was almost up until Rey had mentioned it. When I realized that, it slowly dawned on me what I have the potential to lose. I didn't even realize it how I looked forward to my mornings and evenings with you. I didn't even realize how much I like doing things for you, pampering you. I didn't even realize how I liked talking to your family and spending time with them. I didn't even realize how much I liked the feeling of people seeing my with you, calling us a couple, referring me as your husband. And when I did realize, Rey had told me to tell you."

Sharon slowly turned him around to face her.

"Swayam what are you saying? I thought this was all a torture to you? Last night, you told me that you couldn't do this anymore.."

Swayam looked at her with the most vulnerable expression she had seen on him.

"Sharon, I am in love with you and the thought of you being so close to me and yet being so unattainable is what just feels so painful. I can't imagine my life without you. Now that I know what it feels like to have someone I care about so much, I selfishly want to hold onto you and fight for you.." Swayam finished off, looking into her eyes as he bared his soul to her.

She gulped down her tears, and engulfed him into a hug.

"Then don't let me go so easily. Let me stay by your side."

Swayam chuckled, "Why do you think I confessed? I was hoping that you would take pity on me and stayed."

It was her turn to chuckle.

"Swayam Shekawat, I am not as good of a person as you think I am. I was also hoping that you would stop me from going when I had asked to go.."

Entry 4 - 3(B)

NOT TOGETHER...FOR NOW

"So class, differentiation is used to find the slop of a graph..." the professor started aiming to gain the attention of the whole class but with no effect. Some were busy chit chatting, some enjoying a good sleep under the cool air of the AC while 1 student was completely oblivious to the chaos reigning in the class. Her lush black hair hung around her shoulders and her perfectly carved face was rested on her palm. Her alluring eyes were fixed on HIM who was a bench ahead of him in the adjacent row. His slightly long, silky brown hair, the chocolaty eyes, the pink thin lips and his gentlemanly persona had caught her eye from day1. And now she was head over heels in love with him.

"Sharon!" hissed Simmi, nudging her partner to bring her out of her dreams.

"What?!" Sharon asked, slightly irked.

"You said you didn't understand calculus didn't you? And now when sir is explaining you are busy staring at your Prince Charming. He is NOT going to write your exam Sharon!" Simmi gushed in agitation.

"Don't you dare talk about Swayam in that tone Simmi" said Sharon, passing her a glare. Simmi rolled her eyes and then sighed, giving up.

Swayam Shekawat could swear he felt a pair of greenish brown eyes staring at him. He could always feel Sharon's gaze on him and found immense pleasure picturing her magical eyes.

"Swayam" Rey whispered beside him. Swayam turned towards him and saw him smirking.

"What?" asked Swayam.

"She's looking" said Rey and continued taking down his notes, the smirk still on stuck on his face.

Swayam's face split into a wide smile. He turned back to look at Sharon and his eyes met hers. Everything around them reduced to a blur. Swayam could see Sharon's cheeks reddening as he kept on ogling at her. His grin widened as her cheeks darkened. All of a sudden Sharon broke the eye contact and looked into her notebook trying to hide her blush, unsuccessfully. Swayam always had this huge effect on her ever since she met him. His esoteric eyes were capable of causing mayhem in her heart. Sharon looked from the corner of her eyes and saw Swayam slowly turn towards the front.

Swayam had a huge smile stuck on his face as he faced the board. His thoughts had been successfully seized by Sharon. It had been love at first sight for him. The sight of her enchanting eyes had intrigued him from the second he had seen them. He remembered the day he had seen her first. It was the most unromantic first sight' in the world. Neither had she fallen into her arms nor had he crashed into her. Swayam had seen Sharon when his mom had been talking to hers about studies. She had been very much pissed off at that time. He chuckled as he remembered the look on her face. Swayam knew he loved her then and there. Even his teenage hormones couldn't make him doubt it. Since that day there was no turning back. Swayam found himself yearning to spend time with her and realised that Sharon too was comfortable with his company. Somewhere he knew she loved him too but he had his apprehensions.

"Swayam! SWAYAM!" Rey elbowed him hard.

"What?!" hissed Swayam.

"Where the hell is your attention?! Sir is calling you!"

Swayam looked at the professor who stared at him as if he were a peculiar insect.

"So, Mr. Shekawat, since you are paying attention' would you mind telling me what the differentiation of sinx is?"

"Its cosx sir" said Swayam in the most innocent voice possible.

The professor, flabbergasted on receiving the right answer, gestured him to sit down while Sharon giggled. Swayam's intelligence- one more thing that made her fall for him. She sighed. She loved him so much.

"Right class, finish your homework. See you all next class." Saying so the professor made his way out, followed by all the students. Rey pulled Swayam to one side.

"Till when is this going to go on Swayam?" asked Rey.

"What?" asked Swayam.

"This looking secretly at Sharon. You can't possibly do this forever." Rey said.

"Look Rey, I love Sharon but I can't risk distracting her. Not during these two years. I would never be able to forgive myself if Sharon's studies get affected because of me." Swayam finished in a low voice.

"I understand Swayam, but at least tell her what you feel for her. Hiding your emotions would become very difficult Swayam, trust me."

Swayam looked at Rey and sighed.

"Fine... I'll tell her... today itself"

Rey grinned and hugged Swayam. "That's like my boy!" he remarked. Swayam passed him a small smile and walked towards Sharon, who was discussing something furiously with Simmi.

"Uhm... Sharon?"

Sharon looked at him in surprise and then smiled. She motioned him to continue.

"Err...I was wondering if I could talk to you...alone if you don't mind?"

Sharon glanced at Simmi and then looked at Swayam. "Sure" she said with a sweet smile on her face.

Swayam and Sharon entered classroom IV which was empty and stood facing each other, both of them clearly nervous. Sharon wondered what Swayam wanted to talk about. She had decided she would tell him that she loved him. But now, she was very nervous and anxious as to what Swayam wanted to say.

Swayam took a deep breath and pulled himself together.

"I wanted to tell you something"

"I wanted to tell you something"

Both of them chuckled at the co-incidence.

"Ladies first" said Swayam.

"Oh no" said Sharon "you came to me first...so you go first"

Swayam grinned and said "not you, not me. Both of us together okay? At the count of three..."

"Okay" nodded Sharon, her heart gaining speed.

"3...2...1..."

"I love you"

"I love you"

Both of them froze, completely astounded. Swayam couldn't believe his ears. Sharon loved him! Happiness surged through him giving him a warm and fuzzy feeling. He looked deep into Sharon's eyes and saw endless love and happiness underneath the shock in them. The next second Sharon jumped onto him and hugged him tight. Swayam caught her firmly and twirled her around taking in the feeling of having her so close to him.

Swayam's arms were heaven for Sharon. She held onto him and whispered ecstatically

"I love you Swayam. I love you so much."

"I love you too Sharon...more than anything" came Swayam's quick reply.

Slowly Swayam placed Sharon on her feet and she pulled out of the hug. Both of the hearts skipped a beat seeing their love smile so radiantly. All of a sudden Swayam's face fell and he looked down.

"What happened Swayam?" asked Sharon nonplussed at the sudden change.

"We can't be together Sharon" Swayam said, his voice burning with emotion. "I'm sorry...but we can't be in a relationship, at least not for these two years" Swayam didn't look up as he didn't want to see anger or pain on Sharon's face.

"Why so Swayam?" Sharon asked in an undertone.

Swayam took a deep breath and looked straight into Sharon's eyes. "Because I can't risk distracting you. 11th and 12th is very important and I don't want anything that happens between us to affect your studies. That is why."

A silence punctuated Swayam's answer. Swayam couldn't decipher the emotions in Sharon's eyes as she kept on looking at him. Out of the blue Sharon wrapped her arms around Swayam's neck and kissed him full on the lips. Swayam swore he could feel his brain's fuse blast off as Sharon's lips touched hiss. Before he could regain his senses, Sharon broke the kiss and looked at him with love in her eyes. Swayam looked at her, utterly baffled, silently demanding an explanation. Sharon laughed and said

"I would have told this myself if you hadn't Swayam. Just like you care about me, I care about you too. And I know we can't be together for our own sakes."

A wide grin appeared on Swayam's face as he heard her words. He fell more in love with her at that instant. They both looked at each other, a smile lingering on their faces.

"So...friends?" asked Sharon holding out her hand.

"Not friends...Special friends" said Swayam shaking her hand.

"For now" whispered Sharon.

"For now..." agreed Swayam.
