I work as pediatric nurse in Norway, in a pediatric ward in county hospital. When ever we admit a kid, who we think has diabetes, we never send patient home, will we wait for results. We always tell what we suspect it is, while we wait for the results.
When we are sure that its type 1 diabetes, we admit them for 2 weeks straight. This time is used to balance sugar and other electrolytes (that normally are out of balance), educate parents and the patient (with siblings), in what diabetes is. what are the symptomes of high blood sugar and low blood sugar. What are the consequences of them both. What type of insulin exists, how and where its injected. Every patient gets their very own blood sugar measuring machine and strips for free, from where they can take blood sugar any time. In the beginning we take blood sugar very often, specially before and 1,5 hrs after food. How much insuin is needed is diffrent from person to person, for same quantity of food. Parents gets to learn, how their own kids blood sugar varies, and how much insulin is needed, so that they can calculate how much insulin to give.
We never drastically change their lives. They can have (almost) what ever they want. They want cake, sure they can, just give 2 point extra insulin. If u change a kids life, like in the show, it will have impact on the kid. He might just go into depression.
Does anyone has personal experience in how its treated in India, or other country. I have never seen them giving insulin in upper arm, only in stomach (type that work fast), or thighs (longterm insulin).

I completely agree... yes diabetes is a life long disease but it is also a disease which can be well controlled and people with diabetes lead a perfectly normal life.. yes they have to cut out on sugar however regular exercise is encouraged to keep weight healthy and just have a healthier life style...
It is a great concept that yrrkh is showing however this shouldve been researched more before introducing it to the masses.

I agree. More research is required.

True...
It is also very emotional to see all this and especially if your child enjoys the show as Naaksh/Yash/Ananya are there!!
Personally, since the diagonises- my son has become so stressed ( he is 8 years) that he feels a need to go to the loo frequently- ( with very little pee)- with no other symptoms!!.

I work for a peds office and I agree with u totally. They are kept in hospital till blood sugars are stable and parents have been educated. They can eat mostly what they want and excersise is a major yes for diabetes

They haven't shown that the kid can't do anything.. They're trying to show how typically families react & as per the promo the show will go on to show that diabetes is not the end of the world. And they will motivate him to rejoin the football team. So yeah...

My mother is a diabetic. She has a very controlled diet. She checks her blood sugar daily and also takes insulin. I personally don't know anyone with juvenile diabetes. I live in New Zealand, where the rate of diabetes is quite high. This is mostly due to a fair proportion of the population now being overweight. So even juvenile diabetes has increased in the past 10 years.

But it is by no means the end or the world. One can live a pretty normal life, provided they take the right precautions. There is definitely no need to restrict a person's life to the point of crippling it.

Yeah even I was thinking that they really didn't focus on the treatment part much and instead focused on how they can show the whole house squinting and squirming when duggu was getting injections.
Instead they needed to have show Duggu being explained the situation by the doctor then his parents. They haven't sat him down properly and explained him the details, even the doctor hasn't really told NaKsh that once his blood sugar levels are controlled he can go back to doing the activities he used to do before they have made them think that Duggu will never be able to do that and therefore they haven't been able to explain this all to duggu.

It is nothing like that guys, they are showcasing a typical emotional joint family where they think even a common cold & fever as too much to bear. The parents are over protective and as the child has lost some weight and tires too fast, the doctors have advised them to keep him away from stressful games or work. Here in India even after knowing Diabetes is common, we do panic even a family member who has crossed 50 years gets it. So it is more common for the parents to be protective and that is what they showed During Akshara & the coaches discussion. She said yes, the kids happiness id important but not as important as his life. Yes they need some time to get a grip on their feelings and think practical.
Yes, in some cases the patient will be sent home on insistence of the family as the family needs to prepare the child mentally on his condition. But the patient has to make frequent visits to the doctor and lab for further check ups.
