ERICA CARROLL has found her way in to the hearts of Supernatural'cast and fans alike with her role as the lovely and badass angel Hannah. This talented British Columbian actress chats about her life on the set of season nine episodes Meta Fiction,' Stairway to Heaven,' and Do You Believe in Miracles.' Also known for her parts in Sci-Fi film Apollo 18,' ABC TV movie called In My Dreams, had parts fan favorite TV shows such as Almost Human,' Battlestar Galactica,' Smallville,' and Fringe.'
Q. What can you share with Supernatural' fans about three wonderful episodes that you were in?
A. The first episode 'Meta fiction' was to be my only episode so I was delighted when Hannah popped up again a couple episodes later. I worked only with Misha that episode so it was all very professional and orderly. Then I worked with Jensen and Jared for the Stairway to Heaven' episode and it was a WHOLE different ballgame. I don't think I've had an experience on set that was as entertaining. Jensen and Jared really riff off each other so well; it's quite impressive. Granted they've been at it for some time now...but what you get on camera is nothing compared to their off camera antics as I'm sure you all know more about that I did when I walked on to set. They are pranksters when it comes to your coverage although thankfully they were kind to me, I can't say the same for Misha!
Q. Can you spill any funny stories about being on the set of Supernatural?'
While on set with Guy Bee I sat at video village stifling my giggles while watching poor Misha attempt to get through a scene with the two of them. He's such a pro. I would have fallen apart! I do believe the fans will be happy to see evidence of it on the gag reel.
It was my birthday during the Stairway to Heaven' episode and I was ambushed by a full cast and crew serenade of the Happy Birthday song. I was quite impressed by their singing and harmonizing abilities. I heard they do it all the time, which may have minimized it to some people, but I was very moved by it...what can I say, I'm a softy. I will not admit to shedding a little tear...nope. Not me.
Q. What was the mood like on the set of the finale?
A. Keeping in mind that I wasn't involved in any of the intensely dramatic scenes with Dean and Sam so I wasn't privy to what the energy was like on those days. I think the best way to describe it would be exhaustion! Ha! We were working into the wee hours of the morning and the crew had been going for something crazy like 10 months (23 episodes) so I'd imagine they were all eager to wrap it up. I was filming another episode of a local series simultaneously that week, so working in the day for that and coming to shoot at night for Supernatural,' I was in "Twilight Zone" myself. But it was lovely to see, even with the exhaustion, how wonderful the cast and crew were. There was never a shortage of laughter, even into the early morning hours.
Q. What can you share with your fans about Feed the Gods,' the short film PLAN b,' and TV series Spooksville' and any other upcoming projects?
A. Feed The Gods' Is a film about two brothers who return to a small mountain town in search of their long lost parents only to discover that the place has a monstrous taste for tourists (Insert Big Foot here).
My character is Tyler Johnston's (Supernatural fans would recall him as Samandrial from the series) and Sean Roberts (Resident Evil: Afterlife) long lost mother. Along with Emily Tennant (Jennifer's Body) who performs the role of Tyler's girlfriend (who has also played on Supernatural) they get into a bit of a pickle. You will catch a glimpse of me in the trailer, looking rather forlorn! A fun fact: I happened to be playing Shawn Robert's sister on Motive while also filming the role of his mother on FTG...oh the magic of cinema! Warning: The trailer will make you shiver!
Spooksville' is a great family show on the Hub Network. I play Laurel Hall, the mother of Keean Johnson's character Adam, the new kid in town who discovers that he holds the key to a battle between good and evil that has been taking place for centuries in a bizarre small town that plays host to a wide array of supernatural and unexplained occurrences. It was really fun to hang with kids more my maturity level and we filmed it in my home town on Vancouver Island which was really delightful.
When Calls the Heart,' (Hallmark) developed by Michael Landon Jr is another series I've had the joy to work on this past year. WCTH is set in a 19th century coal town, and I play Dottie Ramsey, the busy body wife to the town mayor. Erin Krakow, Daniel Lissing, Lori Loughlin do a beautiful job telling the story based on Janette Oke's book of the same name. WCTH is pretty much the complete opposite of Supernatural!
Q. Thankfully you became an actress, but if you had gone a different direction, what might your career have been?
A. What other path would I have taken? OOO, that's a tough one to narrow down for me because I am interested in so many things but I'll try to narrow it down. As a child I wanted to be an Astronaut and yes, that was even before I was a Trekkie but now I would choose a career in Naturopathic medicine and Osteopathy. Not quite as cool as an Astronaut some may feel, but being able to aid in healing another being. That's even cooler.
Q. I'm going to end with what's become my signature question. If you were a baseball player, what would your walk up song be?
A. The Streets Have No Name' by U2 gets me going and any good Irish traditional tune that's got a tin whistle and a Bodhran ( Da Danann Over The Bog Road' ) gets my heart rate up and makes everything seem right with the world.
