Just saw this post on PinkVilla, and found it shocking. I had no idea Madhubala was that big of a star that even the west noticed her and called her "The biggest star in the world, and she's not in Beverly Hills".

Those are pretty big words, and a pretty big achievement, this is the 50's we are talking about. I wonder if her stardom was more huge than Rekha, Hema Malini, Sridevi, Madhuri etc. In another topic there is a fan war between Sri and Madhuri in terms of whose better etc etc, but after seeing this I think maybe Madhubala is the biggest female star - not Sri or Madhuri.

I don't know for sure though because I have very little knowledge about Bollywood before the 90's, maybe someone can shine some light on this ?

Madhubala was the biggest superstar. I don't think any heroine has been able to match madhubala. She's an icon. And she deserves this title. If you see her movies you'll know why she has been tag as biggest superstar,

There can never be another madhubala.

Rekha, Hema, Sridevi, Madhuri, Kajol, Aish ect comes after madhubala. She truly was the biggest superstar and she deserve that title

I don't know if she was the biggest star or not...but I have yet to see a face as gorgeous as hers

She was amazing in Mughal-E-Azam. To bad they will never make a movie like that again. 😭

I agree with you. People on this forum says how her beauty was overrated but that's not the truth she indeed was really beautiful. We have to keep in mind that at that time there was no makeup like there is now, there was no plastic surgery. There were no camera tricks or photoshop but that women still manage to look so gorgeous 👏

i don't know about others but i hardly come across any face that resembles madhubala. any Indian, party, gatherings, on streets, never i have seen any face looking like madhubala.

rare face. madhuri came close, madhubala's face still is hatke.

She was a Natural Beauty ❤️ I don't think we will ever see a actress like madhubala in Bollywood

Thats really impressive considering there was no PR or that much reach of BW then. Its great that someone posted it online,cos how else would we know of something published in 50s.👏
