Following on the heels of the post on the terrible mothers of this show - the dads on this show are no angels either. Pavitra Rishta is pretty dysfunctional all around.
Damodar, the drunk who in spite of knowing what his wife, Savita, had done to keep his daughter in law away from his son for 18 years and believed that Bappa would somehow right it all and lifted not a finger to right the situation,this no good father, heads my list.
Manav, so blinded by love for Ovi that he did not give her the help she needed in time. He could have saved her life and that of Purvi's from becoming a disaster. His attitude towards Soham, the tough love that went awry, further stands witness to Manav's failure as a dad.
Arjun, belongs on this list as well. He made no attempt to see Pia (except for infrequent phone conversations and pics from Ovi), he could have, even if he did not want any relationship with Ovi, maintained a close relationship with his daughter. As for Pari, instead of making those random pitiful phone calls, he could have made a more concerted effort to get his wife and child back. He chose to mope alone in that huge house of his like a Majnu.
Soham, like father, like son. Like grandfather, like grandson. This guy who showed so much promise as the young rebellious lad has turned out to be one of the worst parents on this show. An alcoholic, not providing for his family, stealing from his daughters, abandoning his little children to their sorry plight, Soham is a blight on fatherhood.
DK, ah, that suave businessman, sans moustache at one point then sporting it, he was a joke and an overstatement of "cool dad." Set up his son for the worst unhappiness of his life, got him into a 'surprise" engagement, was equally happy when Ovi was to be his d-in-law as he was when he welcomed Purvi as his son's to be wife. Hid away in Australia (why Australia for all the characters in PR? Could they not switch countries once in a while? Ovi, DK, Arvi all in the land down under) while his son was left to handle the unnecessary engagement hoisted on him, little help later when Arjun was having marital troubles galore. DK was also not a good father.
Shirish, he is a toss up, ineffectual as a man and as a father, Rushali runs the show and since he obviously does not wear the pants in the family, he should not be blamed for Naren's jerk like behavior now or for Raunaq's atrocities, that blame needs to be laid fairly and squarely at Rushali's door. But for being an ineffective dad, he is way on top of the list as well.
Balan, that goon, does he love Vishnu lala? does he not? He is the male version of Varsha, selfish, self-serving, not really a parent, no fatherly feeling of love, protection just avarice and a hunger for power. He is a scumbag.
Vinod, in two minds whether I should add his name to this list. What's the harm in tossing his name into the hat? He could not only not keep his wife in line, but let his daughter run amuck, she directly and indirectly caused all the havoc in the latter half of the show.
